Sea of Stars, the retro-inspired RPG from Sabotage Studio, has just announced its total player count has reached a new milestone. The hit indie game has now surpassed a total of 4 million players across all platforms.
The game arrived on PS5 and PS4 at the end of August, when it also launched directly into the PS Plus Game Catalogue, accessible to PS Plus Extra and Premium members. We learned in September that the game had sold more than 250,000 copies, so it seems fairly clear that a majority of the game's players are engaging via subscription services.
Either way, Sabotage Studio seems very pleased with the game's success. "Sea of Stars is the game of my dreams, and seeing its quest resonate so strongly with players and critics means the world to everyone at Sabotage," said Thierry Boulanger, co-founder of the Canadian developer. "For fans to have recognized our adventure in such an incredibly prosperous year for RPGs alongside new arrivals from the genre’s biggest franchises … we simply just cannot thank you enough for supporting us, and we can’t wait to show you what’s next for Sea of Stars."
The team is currently developing the first major DLC for Sea of Stars, entitled Throes of the Watchmaker. All that's known about it right now is that it'll further bridge the gap between this game and Sabotage's previous title, The Messenger, which is set in the same universe.

@The_Pixel_King ice just gone back to it because I only played a couple of hours when it first cane out, and I'm loving it. Definitely reminds me of some of the old ps1 JRPGs such as Grandia
I really wanted to love this one. had it on my wish list, tried it day one and then put several hours into it. It just felt too simplistic with its tedious level design, combat and weapon/armor systems. Bounced right off it.
I'll have to swing back around and give it another try at some point.
Sea of Stars is one of the best video games I’ve ever played!
Great news for them because it creates a huge base of players who may want to buy a sequel.

Great game. Got the plat and enjoyed it immensely
One of my favourites of 2023, except for the true ending being locked behind a collectothon. Wished game devs would just respect the time of their players and go more for skill based rewards.
Top of my lists for this year, this game reminds me wby I love this genre, and that a game made with passion and love will reward the decerning player.
Your appreciation grows the further you get into the game.....
It was a good game, I completed it but tbh it was a little too easy, there wasn't much of a challenge at any point, at all.
Fantastic game well deserved and a perfect use of these subscription services in my eyes.
Wouldn't have picked it up otherwise, and it was a great time.
Superb game, loved it
@Yuyukirby there's nothing unresolved about that s***, mate. The only shameful thing here is that they didn't pull the trigger WEEKS ago.
@Yuyukirby What racism? Someone committed charity fraud and they were removed from the game. Plain and simple.
That’s a surprisingly low number actually, given that it launched on Extra & Gamepass day 1 & was available on all platforms.
At least everyone involved is probably set for life.
My indie game of the year. Really worth the full price, expecially on the Switch Oled
I played this via ps plus. I agree that it was linear and a little easy. But for me that made it enjoyable for me to complete the game. Loved it.
Just waiting for this to release in a few months 😇
Well deserved it's a great game
Give Chained Echoes a try too if you like this game.
I absolutely couldn't stand this game. The dialogue is god awful, combat is boring and lacks real strategy or any form of depth either. It's presentation is splendid though and the soundtrack is good too. Chained Echoes was far better imo.
What a great game. Glad to see so many people playing it.
@GilgaMax96 I thought the story in Chained Echoes was better (so many twists!) but I preferred basically everything else in SoS.
@GilgaMax96 Who do you think they are targeting with their game?
So how much money did they make off those 4m?
