Sony propelled overall console sales up almost 60 per cent year-over-year, as the PS5 absolutely exploded in Europe during November. According to a GSD sales report – which tracks several major countries, excluding the likes of the UK and Germany – the new-gen console’s sales were boosted by an eye-opening 376 per cent year-over-year. It’s worth remembering that in 2022 the system was still supply constrained, which is a factor in these results.
Nevertheless, the Nintendo Switch, now in its twilight years, dropped 35 per cent compared to last November, while the Xbox Series X|S declined 26 per cent. There are some truly staggering estimates out there, which peg the PS5 at just shy of one million sales for November while its nearest rival hovers around the 50k units mark. Obviously, GSD doesn’t release the official figures so we can’t corroborate these estimates, but that’s a truly mind blowing difference if true.
In software terms, there were few surprises. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 was the month’s best-selling game, although it’s down 33 per cent across its first four months on the market compared to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. On the other hand, EA Sports FC 24 is up compared to its predecessor, proving that the series can survive just fine without the FIFA branding.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 was the fifth best-selling game in November, proving that Insomniac’s web-slinger has plenty of legs, while Hogwarts Legacy continues to be one of the year’s biggest hits – especially following its release on Nintendo Switch. Meanwhile, in the accessories department, the DualSense remained the most sought after product, but Remote Play streaming handheld PS Portal fared fine, debuting in eighth position, bookmarked by two new Zelda-related amiibo.
GSD European Game Sales: November 2023

- Marvel's Spider-Man 2
- Grand Theft Auto 5

I can't think of anything meaningful to say as it's too early in the morning, I just wanted to be 1st
These are strong numbers indeed. VGChartz estimates 1.7m units. But Switch is not too shabby with 500k in its last big Christmas. Xbox meanwhile… And these numbers include UK, the last stronghold for MS on this side of the pond.
Congratulations to Sony!
https://www.vgchartz.com/article/459396/europe-hardware-november-2023/
At this rate could it out sell the PS4?
Nearest rival at 50k should that read 500k? If not that's staggering. I'd be interested in seeing life time sales of series X, series S and PS5. I'd imagine PS5 is out selling both 2 to 1 combined
@Max_the_German Worth noting that VG247 uses its own methodology that's detached from the actual data collected by aggregators like GSD and Circana. In other words, it's guesswork.
@rusty82 No, that's not a typing error. 54k is the total that's been calculated based on the data available.
And to think Disney felt it wasn’t excluding people by allowing Microsoft to renegotiate the deal for the new Indiana Jones game to not release on PS5. with PS5 numbers, that’s a huge exclusions right there…
On topic, these numbers are getting crazier by the weeks and it’s still a few weeks until Christmas. Numbers are just going to keep increasing and the way it’s going PS5 will surely eclipse the PS4s sales records. It’s pretty amazing to see how Sony has simply smashed opposition even though said opposition is doing everything they can to try and halt the process without too much success at all.
@Bionic-Spencer Disney is a company run by morons who have ben putting out movies that are losing alot of money this year.
@XenonKnight Indeed
@get2sammyb it's unreal. Microsoft messed up the last gen and have not recovered.
Not looking good. Good for Sony I guess though - not sure how they have created this demand with all of their recent decisions but ok.
They should be thanking Square Enix and Insomniac.
It is good to see that playstation is doing great despite all the negativity accompanying the ps5 since its launch (too weak, no games, too expensive, too ugly, too big, too loud, ...).
But I do not understand why this is the case. Never was the difference to the competing platform smaller than this generation. Playstation has the advantage of better haptics etc. in the controller and the VR accessory (but do consumers care ?). On other hand the competition has this super duper subscription service everybody wants. In terms of games the "biggest hitters" this generation (up to now) have been multiplatform games, it seems, and according to the media the competition has more potential to deliver interesting exclusives.
So why does the general public chose playstation over the competition? Did the movie adaptions help to interest people in playstation ? Or are the recent playstation exclusives appreciated more than what the media tries to convey? Or do people actually care about ps5's exclusive features (haptics, VR) ? Or do people consider the ps5 plastic sculpture to be a beautiful piece of art ? Or did people realise that human hands are kind of symmetric and think that an asymmetric thumbstick placement is a too wild idea ?
So it outsold Xbox by almost 20:1 from that estimate.
These numbers are crazy and they wonder why we say Lbox will go completely 3rd party and ditch the consoles next gen.
@gaston Excellent comment 😂
Personally I always buy PlayStation because I know they'll publish at least one excellent game each year.
As for the rest of your questions, you're straying in to meaning of life territory there for me I'm afraid and I can't help you.
@K1LLEGAL its probably because there are more and better games on Playstation in peoples opinion and even if GamePass is great there have been very few great games in recent years that cant be played on Playstation as well.
@get2sammyb I checked the source for your estimate of sales and its just a random user on a random resetera thread that you cannot corroborate, unless I missed something?
They even admit its a complete guess based on a complete guess from last year lol. Talk about inaccurate.
Why would you include that in your article if you admit you cannot corroborate it? Does random guessing on a resetera thread really count as a news article source these days?
Just surprised you included that as it just seems a bit, unprofessional?
@Max_the_German M$ were strong in the UK in the 360-PS3 era but I know a lot of people who swapped their 360s to PS4 instead of the XBone.
XBox almost became for parlance for video gaming but now PlayStation seems to be the preferred term again.
@XenonKnight @Bionic-Spencer Personally, I think the PS4 would still be selling in decent numbers if the Pro was still around. The used prices are nuts and a new one will set you back about £700.
@Sakai The entire piece was written about GSD data and links to the full article on gameindustry. biz.
Yes, further on in the article is suggests there are some 'trully staggerring estimates' and even calls that estimates legitimacy into question, but it does not base its story on this, despite you inncorrectly claiming its used as a source.
So why try and throw shade on the article and question the editors proffesionalism for pointing out there are other unreliable sources too?
Are you so dismayed by the genuine news that you cant think straight or what? Your position makes no sense to me, and appears to be you having a 'hissy fit'. If you see fit to make your position clearer, I'd like to try and understand why youve taken such a position.
@Titntin because using a random users guesstimate based on last year's guesstimate is unprofessional to me. And if you link something in an article it is a source, that is the whole point of linking it, to show the reader where the information came from.
Inaccuracies are a pet hate of mine, maybe its my OCD, i dont know. This is not the first time or the last time I have done it. For example I corrected a sales article a few weeks ago with some information the author was not aware of and the article was amended.
Not sure where you got the hissy fit from or that I am dismayed. My original comment is clear and precise and in no way emotional lol. Maybe you woke up on the wrong side of the bed today mate?
@Sakai Me? ,Im not the one calling out the editor of the site for mentioning a report and suggesting it could be highly inaccurate.
As your quite aware, the sales precentages are released figures from a known reliable source and that is what the article clearly points too.
The only breakdowns we have in units have to be estimates of course as there are no official figures. The other guesstimate source quotted for many years is VGChartz, which has reported the difference as much wider than the figures yiu have an issue with: https://www.vgchartz.com/article/459396/ps5-sales-top-17m-ns-and-xs-fall-europe-hardware-estimates-for-november-2023/
The source quoted by this article is the best data available.
Any other link was shared with clear refference and admission its not validated and may be highly inaccurate.
There is nothing unprofessional about this story.
Edit: Sorry I can see someone has linked to vgc earlier in the thread, so my link was not needed.
@Titntin I believe it is unprofessional, for the reasons I provided, and you do not. My bar for professionalism may be higher in this regard, and that's OK. So let's just agree to disagree on this one I guess
@get2sammyb
The GSD data for “Europe” does not include UK, Germany and some Eastern European countries btw, so the data all needs to be stitched together for complete European Sales.
It should also be noted that the VGChartz estimate is almost certainly correct to within about 5% margin of error(for PlayStation, Xbox is nowhere near as certain). The reason for this is because all the sales data for November has been expressed in terms of year on year growth and sales for last year are basically known almost perfectly since Sony have periodically revealed sell through numbers at key Milestones and even to the exact day the milestone was reached. So if you have the old data calculated for November and GSD, for example, say xxx% increase you can calculate that number completely.
Btw the VGChartz estimate for Europe has the PS5 at 1.71M which in an all time record for a November month for any hardware(previous record was the DS 2008 at 1,556,491)
@Sakai Ok. I just wanted to ensure I understood properly is all, neither of us is right, we have different views on this and thats OK.
Have a great day!
Microsoft don’t care about console sales, just people subscribing to Gamepass
@Titntin always happy to provide further information, even if you do not agree, and always happy to chat with you mate. Have an awesome day!

@gaston interesting post but imho pretty out of touch about exclusives. Sony is (and for a good reason) still perceived as the publisher with the best exclusive and just recently Final Fantasy 16 and Spider-Man 2 are really big hitters for different audiences. This kind of games drive sales, no matter how some enlightened Xbox fans try to spin it.
The most anticipated game of 2024? FFVII rebirth, another PlayStation exclusive…
Not really surprising as it’s a superb console and despite the vocal minority PS plus is exceptional value
Where else can you get that amount of entertainment for 27p a day?
It’s £1 for one go at the arcade yet people still complain about PS plus, absolutely incredible lol
These numbers reflect only one thing: the world is not just the United States of America. Germany, France, Italy, Spain, and yes also the UK are completely different and have their own preferences. Even the USA increasingly prefers the PlayStation.
The Xbox offers absolutely nothing for the normal European or Japanese consumer. Because for MS everything only counts from the east to the west coast.
MS should just bring their games to the PlayStation and be fine. Because as soon as the Switch 2 comes out, MS will have an even harder time getting people outside the US to buy an Xbox.
"....PS5 at just shy of one million sales for November while its nearest rival hovers around the 50k units mark"
50K??? I highly doubt that, please fact check this.
@K1LLEGAL It probably helps that almost every game runs better on PS5. Above that the PlayStation eco system is more likely to survive (so better to invest in) than Xbox. I think that are also important reasons besides the ton of high quality first party studio's.
Removed - inappropriate
@TrickyDicky99 That would explain why the competition does not grow, but not necessarily why it tanks.
Xbox need to start pumping out some quality exclusives
@Nei might be right. I had the impression that FF16 did not play a big role in the media. Also spider man a big commercial hit, I suppose, also was a bit downplayed in the media, I had the impression.
The PlayStation has always been, and will always be an iconic powerhouse in gaming. The PS5 being an excellent product easily explains these numbers.
@Sakai Would not surprise me if these numbers are accurate.
We get numbers for Spain & there the Xbox family of consoles sold 1K in Spain for November(750X, 250S).
Meanwhile the PS5 did 15K & Switch did ~12.5k.
I know from experience that Xbox is beyond saving in Europe.
@Jamesblob
Thank you, finally someone who spit facts.
If the Xbox were really the better overall package then the masses would buy the Xbox but they don't. The Xbox, like everything from MS except Windows, is a stillbirth that is only artificially kept alive with several billion dollars.
Jesus Christ, Xbox as a hardware manufacturer is melting worldwide while Sony and Nintendo are still selling their hardware like hotcakes.
Congrats to Sony for all their continued success. Those are some big numbers.
@NoHope The maths checks out. It’s roughly accurate as far as I can tell.
Xbox definitely going third party with those type of numbers there’s no damage controlling this.
@gaston It’s an interesting question. I reckon it’s a combo of things, as people have stated.
I do think PlayStation is the beneficiary of advantageous timing right now. The dominant console over the last few years, the Switch, is finally showing signs of decline. Switches and sales are finally coming down to earth. But more so, I think the technology is finally coming back to haunt the Switch and the proposition of a Switch 2 probably has slowed sales.
Meanwhile, Xbox’s strategy has always be more focused on selling the service and less about the hardware. And the technology thing is finally catching up to them with Baldur’s Gate 3 not being able to run fully on Series S. It’s the biggest game of the year and so it came back to bite Microsoft in the behind that they tossed Sony a softball there with timed exclusivity. So yeah, the more compelling games, basically — BG3, SM2, and FF16 (FF7 Rebirth soon) vs Starfield and Redfall.
So basically, although it’s not the only reason, I think Nintendo and Microsoft were a little too slow to respond on some of the hardware limitations they have. Sony seems to be staying ahead of the curve with PS5 Pro probably coming soon(ish?) and the Portal exceeding expectations. Nintendo and Microsoft appear to be course correcting (MS finally admitting they need to leave the Series S behind for some games and Nintendo with the Switch 2)
I do think the DualSense is a great selling point, but it likely comes down more to the games and the unrestrictive technology. The multimedia storm they have been on helps too. Brand loyalty also. All the other things you and people have mentioned.
As others say, I bet this will be the last Xbox console with those numbers. I want to get a series x down the line on sale mainly because it is backward compatible with my OG and 360 libraries.
@Member_the_game I respect your honesty 🫡
I'll be honest with myself and you all and admit that ever since Microsoft bought Bethesda, I've wanted the gap to widen between PlayStation, Nintendo, and Xbox. I care about the gaming industry a lot, but I think Xbox failing and going third party is less destructive to the industry than them buying their way to the top. If they bought two publishers to give the content away for pennies on the dollar and started crushing both Nintendo and PlayStation, we'd be in a lot of trouble. In fact, regulators, while ultimately failing miserably at their jobs, are the only reason ABK games are not Xbox exclusive. Microsoft would have loved to make their console #1 with their pocketbook and ABK being all exclusive would have really helped.
So, to recap, when there was healthy competition, I wanted Xbox, Nintendo, and PlayStation to all succeed. When Microsoft veered off into unhealthy competition, they completely lost my support.
@Jamesblob off set sticks are insanely popular on PC, Switch and many other devices. I prefer off set but can use both. Off set was designed around 3D gaming and Sony’s was designed for 2D gaming, neither is right or wrong and i like both depending on the game, as i game on both Xbox and PS. But PS is the biggest name in gaming and for many good reasons. Mostly their games and lack of making to many big mistakes that set it back. I am happy to see consoles thriving and selling so well. If Xbox thought this holiday was tough against a 7 year old switch and a 3 year old PS5, just wait until next year when the PS5 Pro is out and Switch 2. They are really going to take a bath next season.
@Bionic-Spencer I mean that’s true, to an extent. But making a game Xbox exclusive now means it launches on pc and Xbox day one, with xcloud soon to follow. Sony exclusives pretty much only appear on ps5 day one barring a few exceptions. There’s no date for the last of us part 2 remaster on pc yet and a lot of fans are still waiting on news concerning the pc release of the demons souls remake. Xbox as a platform is no longer restricted to console, their games are available at launch on both pc and Xbox systems. Disney would be fully aware of this when negotiating exclusivity, as they would Sony’s ps5 exclusivity stance. Their guys run all the numbers before committing to any business deal.
@get2sammyb
Maybe I got it wrong, but you are saying PS5 sold almost 1 millions units in november (which I believe) and the next best competitor sold 50.000 units, that can not be right.
@NoHope Xbox isn’t selling well anywhere besides the states so I believe it.
@TheCollector316 I agree that consolidation of games publishers by Microsoft definitely isn’t a consumer friendly move. But I am hopeful and relatively confident that the Activision blizzard deal should be the nail in the coffin of any further publisher and studio acquisition's by team green.
If Microsoft do eventually become software centric it will be interesting to see how PlayStation respond to the lack of competition.
Economic theory suggests that absence of competition results in higher pricing and inferior products. Sony’s history suggests that this would hold true. The huge success of the PlayStation 2 resulted in the company’s worst console launch in history with PlayStation 3 and led to a monumental loss of market share.
Conversely, a lot of the changes made during the Xbox one era were entirely due to competition from Sony: roll back on game sharing, removal of Kinect and cheaper base hardware pricing, focus on games and abandonment of Xbox as a media system, launch of a powerful “one x” console variant, the development of gamepass (love it or hate it). None of this was possible without Sony’s competition.
This site's users should be cheering FOR Xbox to try to put up some healthy competition. You think PS Plus would be like this if it weren't for gamepass?
I hope this site's users enjoy arrogant PS3 sony if Microsoft goes third party.
@Jamesblob they sure have advantages but they don't have golden chicken to earn money like microsoft. Minecraft, forza, sea of thieves people leaving money there what playstation have? They tried it - they failed they don't have service games at all. You don't know nothing about rental service. Xbox was first who put LAN port on console, they was first who did multiplayer gaming on consoles. They was first who started to release games on PC. Why sony doing that if they sold too much consoles? Because people buying ps5 and a lot of them just playing Fortnite, call of duty or fifa games. I really don't understand why people are so dumb they showing hey watch ps5 sold 1 million xbox sold 100k this means nothing to me. Xbox put their games on PC so let's count PC as Xbox because they both running on Windows. And ofc ms bought a lot of studios so good luck to play them on ps5. Ohh i forgot you will use your PC
@rusty82 isn’t it more like 4-1 now? And that’s both series consoles together btw. Absolutely tragic sales figures for Xbox
@Dexxyx did Xbox have online before PS2?
@Neither_scene
I agree 100%. Hopefully, Nintendo and Sony keep each other competing effectively in the hypothetical scenario Xbox goes third party. The competition between Xbox, Nintendo, and Sony has made gaming as great as it is, but Microsoft trying to brute force the industry into a business model that only a company of their scale can sustain is not good for anyone. Screw that.
@Th3solution on the other hand the switch has proven that graphics is not everything and the series s + subscription is a hard to beat value proposition. But maybe FF16, BG3, SP2 are sufficient to convince people to buy into playstation's offerings or people go PC instead of other consoles.
@Dexxyx Wrong, Dreamcast was first with multiplayer gaming on consoles. It even came with a 56k modem.
@HonestHick Why is offset better for 3D gaming ? I would rather have guess the opposite since for 3D gaming You rather use the sticks with both hands rather than the digital cross. For me it makes more sense to have movement and camera control at the same reach. But I suppose in the end it is just a matter of getting used to one or the other scheme and once one got used to one scheme it is difficult to switch.
@Jamesblob Makes sense. I wonder how many people consider the controller differences relevant for a decision.
Concerning pro-consumer moves: playstations subscription is considered a weaker proposition and also its backward compatibility (not sure whether this is actually true). So MS got a few things right, it seems. Also the possibility to buy games which are on their subscription service for a discounted price is always mentioned as a plus.
I have no idea of the xbox UI, I just hear that a lot of people complain about the ps5 ui in particular. Personally, I like the look of the PS5 UI. In the end all that matters for me is to get into the games without too much hassle.
@gaston for me it’s cause i have the reach of the buttons and triggers so much closer with the thumb stick up high vs down low on the PS. I can use both and i still think some games feel better on one Vs the other. But for shooters I really struggle with PS controllers. I buy all my shooters for Xbox. However for Street fighter 6 i bought it on PS5 cause the controller worked better for me. So it’s all very subjective. But even Nintendo pro controllers use offset. Which I hope they make a Pro 2 controller for Switch 2 and make it even better. However long story short PS5 is widely successful and i really enjoy mine. Tho i enjoy my Series X also even tho it isn’t selling as well. 😊
@gaston Yes, true - the Switch has been underpowered for an entire generation and it has still dominated. But I think we have some performance issues that are starting to limit these weaker systems. Cyberpunk, BG3 local coop, and about any AAA game performance mode/60 fps - all poorly functional or completely nonfunctional on dated hardware. I assume most AAA games going forward will need the full current gen power
Jesus here we go again with this corporate profit cheering console war click bait from the site who's parent company runs a Playstation site, Nintendo site, and Xbox site.... 👍 Why openly invite irrational division amongst the medium?
Not sure why we continue root for hardware sales supremacy when it's very likely that very supremacy has fueled the most complacent and anti fan behavior generation we have ever seen from Sony.
@Mikey856 I was being conservative in my estimation. But it does sound like it's 4 to 1 which is unreal. Especially as series X is a great console and with gamepass being such a hit
@Th3solution In regards to the Switch, it's still selling well relative to its age. 90% of the other consoles sold much lower than what the Switch is able to do during their twilight years. Only exceptions were the PS2 and the DS.
if we are being honest, sony has done very little the past 3 years to earn the top spot by such a landslide.
@Porco which goes to show that a console's performance doesn't always come down to things that hardcore gamers who comment online care about. Sometimes, the brand is more important than anything else.
@reek
I'll take arrogant Sony over out-of-business Sony if Microsoft successfully manages to damage the gaming industry to the point only a company of their scale can benefit. Spending nearly your competitors' net worth buying up publishers and giving away their content for pennies on the dollar is just the sort of thing that will lead to disaster.
@Max_the_German no, those numbers DO NOT include UK or Germany. Those are EU numbers.
What you fail to mention is how Xbox sales in the UK absolutely destroy PS. Xbox has a 71.3% market share too and PS has 26.1%. Nintendo in UK sits at 0.1%. So PS may be no1 in EU, but not in EU +UK + Germany.
@Bionic-Spencer Sony has only 'smashed competition ' in some countries not all. PS advocates always seem to forget the countries where Xbox trounces PS. Funny that.
@Nei not according to TGA xD
@Th3solution fyi, BG3 wasn't a 'timed exclusive '. Xbox just wanted to wait for parity so series S users could enjoy the game as intended too. Since that was dropped the Xbox vers now released and in much better shape than launch. It runs way better on series X than on PC and PS.
Also Xbox 1st party got 2 TGa, and Sony ... umm 0. And for SM2 to be nominated SEVEN times and get 0 is just funny.
@jedinite Yes, that’s exactly my point — in my understanding Xbox’s policy was that games were required to have parity between Series S and Series X and Larian could not get couch co-op running on Series S so therefore they didn’t release it on either one. It effectively became a ‘timed exclusive’ because of that until Xbox finally backed out of their parity clause, allowing Larian to drop couch co-op from the Series S version. Sony paid nothing for the right to have the game first; it was self-inflicted by XBox.
It’s roughly similar to Cyberpunk 2077 and the PS4 and Xbox One versions. Trying to keep old tech alive ended up holding things back for the current gen version to function also.
All three companies I think are finally realizing they need to get on with it toward the new generation. Xbox with dropping the parity requirement, Nintendo with the release of Switch 2, and Sony with the abandonment of cross gen games (and now the PS5 pro rumored to come out next year). I just think PS5 benefitted from the other two companies dragging their feet a little bit on embracing the current generation, that’s all.
@jedinite The numbers I set the link for include UK and GER. This is also the reason why „my“ numbers say 1.7m, while the numbers in the article say 1.0m.
@jedinite I wouldn’t say so: these games were heavily nominated and won categories and fared critically and commercially significantly better than the most hyped Xbox esclusive in history, Starfield.
I mean it’s perfectly alright to like a platform but why are you trying to gaslight the comment section? It won’t change reality! Stop caring about sales/popularity and enjoy the games you like 😉
This is crazy alternate reality stuff right here. According to GSD the PS5 was the best selling console in the uk in 2022 and is leading 2023 by a large margin. In November the Ps5 accounted for “practically half” of all console sales.
The PS5 is even beating Xbox in the USA this generation. I think the only country in the world that Xbox might be ahead is Mexico(no solid data though)
Estimated console sales so far this year worldwide:
PlayStation 5 - 17.9M
Xbox series X/S - 5.6M
@jedinite nice numbers you got there. Any source or is this a "trust me, bro" situation we got here?
Hence why the Xbox Series is almost on a fire sale now to boost its numbers, all this shows is that Xbox will be a streaming service and software house sooner rather then later.
Go team PlayStation, incredible numbers.
@PixelDragon It will be very interesting when the new Nintendo console launches how Xbox Series sales will be impacted even further. It’s not looking good for them.
@jedinite 🤣😂🤣😂🤣 please don’t interpret your literal dreams at night as factual sales figures. It isn’t reality in the slightest.
@TrickyDicky99 Then that is still very very far behind Sony and Nintendo. They don’t want console sales though they want Game Pass subscribers, and if they do not grow, as they said themselves they will leave the gaming industry.
@PixelDragon Agreed, although Microsoft will exist as a streaming service. I can see them pulling out in a gen or two. They matched Sony during the PS3 360 gen, then ruined themselves with the Xbox One, and this gen hasn’t proved a comeback really, doing a lot better but not a comeback.
@jedinite Xbox didn’t ’wait for parity’, for Baldurs Gate 3 to release on their consoles, Larian couldn’t get the game to work properly with the parity you highlight because Series S couldn’t run the split screen that PS5s set of consoles had no problems in doing. So, instead of ‘waiting for parity’, Series S has the inferior version of the game. If Microsoft had stuck to their guns, Baldurs Gate 3 would have taken way longer to release.
@Bionic-Spencer you fail to mention the Series X version vs PS5. Runs way better on Series X as it's a more polished release. Also Series S version runs the same minus split screen. Who uses split screen nowadays?
@PixelDragon why would I troll? It's accepted that thr version released for XboX was more polished than when it released a few months ago. There's been multiple updates since the initial launch. Also I play across multi platforms, as you will see from my past posts. I'm not a fanboy and have both versions of BG3, on PS5 and Series X. And imo, the Xbot version runs much better, feels more optimised somehow.
@ChrisDeku https://gamedevreports.substack.com/p/gsd-and-gfk-console-sales-in-the#:~:text=Hardware%20and%20Accessories,sales%20also%20increased%20by%2024%25.
Ok.
@naruball https://gamedevreports.substack.com/p/gsd-and-gfk-console-sales-in-the#:~:text=Hardware%20and%20Accessories,sales%20also%20increased%20by%2024%25.
But why? Their recent decisions have been terrible and there is nothing in the way of new killer exclusives right now.
@jedinite You understand that article clearly states that Xbox was the second best selling console behind PS5?
@jedinite BG3? There's a comparison video over on digital foundry and it runs better on Ps5. 🤦♂️
@ChrisDeku yes I do. It's sales figures you were talking about. Xbox sales up 176% and PS ( DESPITE SELLING MORE) have only increased their market share 24%. Yes there are more PS in the wild ATM but if those figures continue to hold true, in a few months could be a very diff picture.
@MrMagic why would I watch someone else's comparison video? I can do my own by booting up BG3 on all platforms and checking myself . Which i have done, side by side. And, imo, it runs, looks and feels better on Series X. You can't say I'm wrong as it's my preference and opinion. You may prefer playing on PS, cool idm. Why fo you care which version I prefer? Does it somehow affect or detract from your gameplay? Imo I also much prefer SM1 on the PS4 pro to SM2 on PS5.
@jedinite I don’t think you want to read the comments on this very subject over on Pure Xbox and Digital Foundry then..I think I’ll follow PixelDragons lead here and block also, just don’t have the time or energy to deal with stupid people.
I checked, the article is wrong, it says that PS5 sold around 1 million units in november and the next best competitor sold 50.000 units, that is not right. Try 500.000 units.
@TrickyDicky99 tanked is maybe too strong a word, but all the steps they had taken rather had a negative impact than a positive one it seems. And the steps have not been small. But it is possible that the impact will only be visible during the next generation.
@Th3solution it is certainly possible to design games that really need the current gen hardware power (in particular memory and the ssd). Though we haven't seen many of such games. I really liked cp2077 but it also did not do anything new (or did it ?), so I suppose it was mostly badly optimized. And besides some graphical bling there are not really (m)any new gen only games which exceed last gen games. Having said all that most games offer an 60fps mode on new gen hardware which was not the case on last gen hardware. But, if developers start to focus more on mobile, and make games mobile compatible, there may not be much of an evolution (e.g. what can be seen in the VR space, where few games reach the heights of early PCVR and even early psvr1 games).
@HonestHick But would it then not be better to also have the other stick closer to the triggers and move the buttons down ? Maybe there are games in which You have the left thumb on the stick and the other fingers on the buttons. But I typically have both thumbs on the sticks and only occasionally move them away. I do not see why an asymmetric placement would be more natural. I can understand that one can get used to one scheme and that then the other scheme feels off.
@gaston it’s a feeling thing is all i can say. I do like both for different games. But for shooters i struggle more with the PS setup vs the Xbox setup. Both controllers this gen are very good tho as i didn’t like Sony controllers in the past. I am looking forward to the refresh Xbox pad with haptics and lift to wake etc etc. on the side i want to mention i like the flat button on PS a little better than the rounded ones on Xbox. Over time i feel like they are nicer to the touch.
Coooopppiiiuuum 😆
