Despite it almost being February, RPG-to-beat Baldur's Gate 3 has secured another prestigious Game of the Year win, this time from the New York Video Game Critics Circle. As previously announced, there, at the New York Game Awards, Naughty Dog's Neil Druckmann received the Andrew Yoon Legend Award for outstanding contributions to the industry.
While perhaps not as glitzy as Geoff Keighley's The Game Awards, its winners make more sense in some cases. TGA gave its "Best Ongoing" trophy to Cyberpunk 2077's Phantom Liberty, whereas the same expansion won "Best DLC" at NYVGCCC (credit where it's due; Keighley has the better acronym).
BG3 also picked up the Herman Melville Award for Best Writing, and Saga Anderson actor Melanie Liburd secured Best Actor in Alan Wake 2, with Remedy also walking away with the Statue of Liberty Award for Best World. Held in Manhattan, the New York Game Awards have been running since 2012, with its goal being to "recognize outstanding achievement in video games”.
Are you surprised to see BG3 secure another GotY win at this point, or is it just par for the course? Are awards shows without game trailers and reveals doomed to obscurity? Let us know in the comments section below.

I just finished my first playthrough an hour ago. It took me 110 hours, and the first 70 were just me desperately trying to get into Shadowheart's pants, and I'm not afraid to admit it. 10/10 game would recommend. I'm not sure how it stacks up against Alan Wake 2 as GOTY, though....

@RestMode12 Wow, are you OK? Do you need to talk about it?
I'm only 20 hours into the game but can see why it's so adored. Seems a once in a generation type game.
@RestMode12 can i suggest taking an English course??....Ya know - spelling, punctuation, actually making sense and not just throwing words together 🙂
@zhoont Goth girl is best girl 😁
Well dammit! Now i wanna know what the banned guy said xD
@zhoont haha, she was my interest as well. Took me 256 hours to beat my first run and most of the first act of that was deciding between Lae'zel and Shadowheart lol.
@species Homophobia and nothing else that made much sense.
What no Spidy 2. OUTRAGEOUS sigh
Neil Druckmann receives award for outstanding contributions...🤣🤣
Baldur's Gate 3 is the, for me, the best game ever made, and I have played literally hundreds of games. It is a game that will be played, and spoken of fondly, for decades to come. Not in the least bit surprised that it wins so many awards.
I know some people are disappointed (and even salty!) about Spiderman 2 not winning GotY, but I think that a lot of those that have played SM2, and who feel this way, have probably not also played BG3, and so are wondering why BG3 winning. The only thing I could suggest is to give BG3 a run, and then I'm sure that things will be put into perspective, and you will then understand, and appreciate why BG3 keeps (deservedly) winning GotY...
Forget who won which awards - I want to commend them for putting on an excellent awards show! This is how it should be run - with respect to all. Hope Geoff watches it & takes copious notes!
Karlach is all I need. That girl is boss.
I slept with astarion, lae'zel, shadowheart, the emperor, and the demon lady that hangs around wyll. I love the game. The third act is pretty massive tho and i'm ready to wrap it up
Well deserved for baldurs gate 3.and the greatest city in the world 🌎 new york City.word up son
@species Something I wouldn't want to repeat, but it was very derogatory towards lesbians. Discussion of this game seems to bring the cretins out of their holes.
