Update 3: The Granblue Fantasy: Relink demo is now available worldwide on PS5 and PS4. As reported below, it's 26.5GB in terms of size.
Completing the demo's Story Mode and Quest Mode offerings unlocks rewards for the full release. You can also play through the included quests with other players online.
Update 2: It's here (for some of us)! The Granblue Fantasy: Relink demo is available to download now in Europe, on both PS5 and PS4. It weighs in at a rather chunky 26.5GB.
For those of you in North America, you'll need to wait until midnight in your region before it shows up on the PlayStation Store.
Update: It seems as though the Granblue Fantasy: Relink demo will actually release at midnight in your region. Initially, it was assumed that the demo would launch worldwide in conjunction with its midnight release in Japan on the 12th January, but the demo is already available in countries such as New Zealand.
Original Story: During its most recent Granblue Fantasy: Relink broadcast, Cygames confirmed that the game's playable demo will launch later today. It's set to go live on PS5 and PS4 at 12am JST on the 12th January — which is 3pm GMT / 4pm CET / 10am ET / 7am PT on the 11th January here in the west. We'll update this article when the demo is live.
The demo will include an early chunk of the single-player Story Mode, a smattering of missions from Quest Mod — which can be tackled with CPU allies or other players online — and a Tutorial Mode for those who want to practice their skills. You'll also be able to play as a bunch of different characters and tweak various loadouts to suit your needs. What's more, completing parts of the demo will net you rewards for the full game when it releases on the 1st February.

Cool that they have the confidence in the game to put out a demo… but I personally will wait for the full release. Have liked what I’ve seen of it since… well, before the covid lockdown at least: probably a fair bit before that tbh. About time we get to play it!
I have way too many jRPGs in my backlog. So I doubt I'll find the time for this one.
I'll check it out but (assuming I like it) I'll probably wait until after FF7 to buy it. Got enough games to play before then.
So the story progress doesn't carry over?
Even though I'm going to be there day one I still wanna jump on the demo... I think there's some unlocks or something.
I'm old and easily get confused, is this the fighting game or the JRPG?
@JohnnyShoulder The JRPG.
Don't know much about this game but what I have seen looks kinda neat! I'll be giving this demo a go for sure 👍
I wish more publishers did this. Playing the demo is what made me buy a few games like Octopath Traveler and FFXVI, I'll definitely be giving it a try and it will decide if I buy the game or not.
N.i.c.e. granblue fantasy relink look excellent from the gameplay we saw.its gonna be a excellent game.word up son
Is this a MMORPG?
@DulyNoated it a jrpg not a mmo
@Slayer25c Well, it does have a Monster Hunter style post game, which you can play with 3 other people or solo with AI companions from what I understand.
This is one of my favorite games of 2024.
@Sil_Am for the story it only single player but quests u can bring in 3 computer players or 3 real players
Will deffo give it a go!
To think, this is the game we all thought will never come out;)
@UltimateOtaku91 Fanks!
Dammit, I was looking forward to it, and it won't show up until later...
@DulyNoated It's a Single player JRPG but does have online multiplayer for the side quests, you can either do them on your own for 3 NPC's or do them online with three other people. You can't do the story/explore the world online though.
I was waiting for 3pm to come around but I guess It will be tomorrow now. I will try out the Prince of Persia demo out at 5pm instead.
3:15pm here in the UK and apparently it should be available, but it's not showing in the store. Can see it in the NZ equivalent. Might need another hour or so. Anyone here downloaded it already?
@gravelmonkey It seems to be a midnight launch per region, which is why NZ has it already.
The JP demo is also up, as advertised, but I'm curious about the localisation, so I suppose I'll have to be patient...
Yeah it's an odd one because some articles said it was going live at 12pm JST across other regions.
I am defeated! I will play the demo and if I like it I will play it after Dragon Dogma 2
Very much looking forward to the demo.
Interested to see how it turns out. It isn't my kind of RPG but I have been following it with someone else out of curiosity as I think it has a lot of interesting elements to it.
Downloading just now. I'll probably be knackered at work tomorrow, but screw it;)
Loving the tune playing in the console's menu already!
Thoughts after finishing the demo:
The combat is fun and there's quite a few characters to try out. Really nice music too. Unfortunately, it just looks bad and there's tons of texture popping right in front of your eyes. Hopefully they'll patch it. Character models look pretty good though.
I'm gonna try out the Prince of Persia demo till its Midnight (1am for me cause of Daylight savings) then I try Granblue. I'm really looking forward to it 😀
Played and really liked the demo. No regrets that I pre-ordered it. The combat was really enjoyable.
Downloaded last night and I have done the 3 quests and I have to say I feel this game was definitely worth the wait, the controls and combat feel so good, visually impressive and great voice acting. I'm in two minds whether to do the story part or not or just save it for the proper game.
The 28th January can't come soon enough.
It was ok. There was no weight to the combat and the story mode just felt like I was playing a multiplayer game on my own. Pluuuus the boss took way to long to kill!
Thought the demo was great and was ready to buy it day one ,then I found out the main story is only 20hrs long but 100 hrs if you want to do everything ,20hrs is really short for a jrpg in my opinion, and thats a massive gap ,so think I'll wait for reviews.
On a side note i tried the demo of the granblue beat em up. It was pretty good actually.
@UltimateOtaku91
Don't worry. It's a cookie cutter "go save some villagers in different locations" type of task. No story spoilers really.
@Mephisto2869
So 80h of padding?
That wouldn't be good.
The demo is really amazing.granblue fantasy relink demo is excellent.the combat.graphics.boss fights.english voice acting is really good.word up son
@Kiefer-Sutherland pfft, maybe you were just rubbish!
I’m not big on JRPGs but curious enough to give the demo a try. Just downloading now and quite enjoying the music playing on the game tile.
got it downloaded to dive in after work can't wait to check it out
Completed it this afternoon. Really wanted to like it but it's not for me.
Looks amazing (albeit on a world that rotates a heck of a lot), engaging combat, but feels too 'childish' to me. That's not me having a dig at the devs because I'm sure they know their audience - I'm just not one of them.
Played the demo, very much enjoyed it
I must say that I am pretty mid on this after playing this demo: it’s not bad at all but not as good/different as I imagined. I like the exploration with the chest mini games and the optional challenges but the combat hasn’t totally clicked with me, the graphic is kind of dated (even if the art style is gorgeous) and it is a bit too anime-trope heavy for my personal taste.
I will wait for the reviews and maybe pick it up after Rebirth, Dragon Dogma 2, Persona 3 Reload, Like a Dragon and Unicorn Overlord. Look at that list LOL
Not entirely convinced yet after playing the demo.
Combat feels chaotic, graphics are somewhat alright, but the English voice acting and the art style is nice. Although lip sync irritates me with English dub.
Prince of Persia demo: Bored after 10 minutes
This demo: Bored after 5 minutes
This is about the 6442th game like that
Gave the demo a go yesterday. The combat is really fun! It reminds me a lot of the combat in NieR: Automata. There's also a fair amount of depth, like attacking with your party members will trigger a chain reaction attack, and attacking an enemy enough times will temporarily level up your "Art" level, which will let you do more damage with your skills. There's also a finishing move and I'm guessing you'll also be able to play as your party members, which means more varied combat.
I agree with others that the lack of lip-syncing with the English dub is annoying but the voice acting itself is decent enough. The story and characters are interesting, so I decided to not play through the entirety of the demo.
Honestly, I kinda want to play the game on day one. But it coming out around the same time as Persona 3: Reload is a bit of a bummer. I might get it later on in that case.
For anyone who’s played the demo, what’s one or two games you’d compare it to? Thinking about trying the demo soon if it’s up my alley. I know nothing about this franchise but it looks cool
@MUG3NHC it's at least half of what a jrpg usually is ,it's a jrpg lite
Played through the “story” part of the demo and one of the quests.
Combat feels pretty good but I was not a fan of the camera at all. As others have mentioned, it feels a little childish and I still don’t know if you just get dropped into locations for story stuff or if there is a full map to explore. I couldn’t find a map anywhere during the demo.
Unfortunately this game is likely a pass for me now.
@CWill97 the most similar thing is a “Tails of” game. The production values are higher though!
Way to much chatter during battles. Might play if it comes to plus but on mute during fights.
@UltimateOtaku91 No, you get a small reward in the full game for playing it though.
Played story mode for about 15 minutes yesterday. Per some of the other comments, I think that the graphics are nice and the combat control is fluid, but just not a fan of Tales type chaotic, computer controlled party members. I also think that the voice acting and dialogue is geared towards a younger audience than me. Depending on how it reviews, may give it a try on sale in the future.
Feels like "Tales of Genshin" but also pretty tight combat wise. Can't wait to play more.
I liked the demos story play, but the Quest mode was so much fun cause it really let you see the depth of the combat system and how different it can be depending who you choose to control.
And if you have a 4K screen it looks way better in quality mode and actually plays nice in 30 fps.
@CWill97 Combat felt a bit similar to Ys 8 & 9, but a bit less ‘tight’. That and the Tales series seem to be the best references.
