The wait for Elden Ring's eagerly anticipated Shadow of the Erdtree expansion has been so torturous we've almost lost our humanity. Still, at long last, a brief glimmer of hope emerges from the infinite depths of Steam's backend. Elden Ring YouTuber Ziostorm posted some verifiable findings to Twitter, showing that a DLC package has been added to the game's backend, the first time such an event has occurred since the game launched almost two years ago.
We should temper our expectations, as we've all been burned before, and the Elden Ring community resorted to arcane measures ahead of 2023's The Game Awards to no avail. And yet, masochists that we are, something feels different this time. The stars may still align with our previous reporting when, in December, we brought you word of a series of gaudy third-party controllers that predicted a February release for Shadow of the Erdtree.
What do you think? Could the long-awaited reveal of Shadow of the Erdtree be imminent? Or, have you been burned too many times before to go down that road again? Let us know what you think in the comments section below.

Breath of fresh air seeing a development studio working on DLC for 2 years instead of finishing the 'DLC' before the game releases and drip feeding it with season passes and things of that nature.
Burned too many times? It's never had a release date for my hopes to be dashed when said date arrives and no expansion appears. Its hard to feel "burned" when I've had nothing promised in the first place! Yes I want the expansion and its an instant purchase for me as elden ring is in my top 5 games of my lifetime.
I will likely be getting this when it does eventually release, there's still a lot I haven't done in that game and it would be the perfect opportunity to revisit it. One of the best games I've ever played that.
Why people await DLC for even now huge game?
From what I seen an interesting game but with rheumatoid arthritis hands not for me.I've been playing games for years with save stat! Love save state lol
I just got done fighting Malenia solo a couple days ago(It was hell trying to learn to dodge her waterfowl dance) and finally got the last of the three endings I needed. Funny enough it was the Elden Lord ending I needed out of the three so I am ready for this DLC.
Excellent, bring it on.
When it releases, anything else will have to wait. Top priority.
It would be pretty cool if they just dropped it on us out of the blue. Old school release strategy
@Darth_Stofi Why do people ever wait for some DLC and not for just Elden Ring 2?
@Darth_Stofi FromSoftware has always released really solid DLC for the souls games. They are usually dense levels with a fair amount of interesting stuff to do and collect. With Elden Ring being the pure masterpiece that it is, people are excited for a reason to dive back in and given From’s track record you could comfortably put money on it being a high quality expansion.
Anyone else than me waiting for the inevitable GOTY version with DLC included to finally play it?
Take my money at full price. Let's go!
Elden ring is easily one of the greatest games ever made.elden ring shadow of the erdtree is going to be amazing.word up son
@djlard @Darth_Stofi I understand the sentiment, but I do feel like FromSoftware is more old-school in this sense than other developers - i.e. the days when developers gave you a full game and then made an expansion afterwards as some meaty (lower-priced) supplemental fun that came about after looking back at the complete game and thinking "what if we...".
I absolutely despise it when there is a gameplay reveal and story expansion DLC is already being talked about.
Even if it's in the roadmap, pull some wool over our eyes and make us feel like we get the full game out of the gate rather than putting it out there during the launch trailer and making us feel like the only reason there is story DLC is because...deadlines.
@GamingFan4Lyf Yes. I just liked to point out that developers should do sequel rather than pile of dlcs.
As you wrote, paid DLCs is theft, because story should be complete on arrival.
oh boy i just finally start Demon's Souls remake for first time. So far i think it's my favorite behind Elden Ring. I know everyone likes bloodborne but, man, i'm a magic user and did not have an easy go of it with bb
I beat this game 2 times thanks to some randos on the last three bosses. I know, I'm not that of a solo player. 🤣
Tbh, this DLC is my most anticipated release in 2024...really looking forward to what FS is preparing for us in there
@Khayl
You need to change the category with "Bandai Namco" to "FromSoftware" because this item doesn't appear under the other Elden Ring news.
