One of the rare games bearing the PS Studios emblem this year is Helldivers 2, and it's just around the corner on PS5. This follow-up to the original co-op shooter launches 8th February with an over-the-shoulder camera and, presumably, a much bigger budget, and it looks like it should be super fun with friends. The launch trailer only has us looking forward to the giant bug-squashing action even more.
The tongue-in-cheek sense of humour is out in force here in a combo of cinematics and PS5 gameplay footage. You and up to three others are fighting back against alien forces, using the biggest and best firepower humanity has to offer — but friendly fire is always on, so you're forced to watch out for each other. The game also launches on PC the same day, and crossplay is supported, so this should be a jolly time whether you're on console or computer.
We can't wait to take this for a spin soon, but what about you? Are you down to frag some alien bugs with buddies in Helldivers 2? Let us know in the comments section below.

Would like to give it a try before I buy it. Was open for a beta, but maybe we can get a trial on psplus premium
Huge red flag imo that there's been no beta of any kind for an online game of this nature.
Hard pass till I see reviews/actual player impressions.
There's nothing more boring in multiplayers than strictly PvE. But I assume this is a free PS Plus addition, right?
Interesting how all 3 major February PS live service launch trailers dropped on the same day (Suicide Squad, Foamstars, Helldivers 2). Makes me wonder if they're getting live service out of the way to focus on single player in the next State of Play.
@Grimwood that's a terrible take considering the first Helldivers was excellent
I pre-ordered literally the day pre-orders were available! I'm super excited for this game!
Can you play this game solo or is this strictly a coop game? If it's a coop game, I will have to pass, I am not interested in playing with other people.
Friends and I are so ready for this.
Can’t wait for this
@Camlambelot watching someone else play is different than actually playing it for yourself.
Quite looking forward to this, even better it's only costing me £32 so I'm sure I will getting my monies worth.
@Camlambelot true
I m interested in this game for some dumb fun. Then again in other news, foamstars come in as free ps plus game in Feb. That one is pretty fun too.
That trailer is a graduate from the Bungie School of Hype Trailers, good trailer, looks fun but the co-op nature of it will ever rule me out of playing it, but good to see a lot of people are looking forward to it!
I don’t know. I started out liking Helldivers but quickly fell off. Maybe this one will change my mind.
Is it free to play because I’m not spending money on this
@Kanji-Tatsumi Wouldn't put too much weight on the statement. The dude is the Grumpy Cat of Pushsquare.
@KillerBoy No
I have to agree that a demo or beta would have been really helpful with this one. All we've seen of this are small cuts of shooting stuffs. That's it. Tough sell vaguely knowing the type of game it is. such a weird choice how they marketed this one.
Had it pushed out a demo, beta, or hell even late previews many more likely wouldn't be waiting to see blindly. As now, if it does review as OK or good, many won't even give it a try having not had the chance to taste whether or not OK or good turns out to be a blast for them.
@Grimwood Dude, just no. Deep Rock Galactic is one of the best games on PS5; never gets boring. Maybe you just need some friends to play with
If this is even half as good, it'll be a blast.
@GigaGaia You can play solo, but while in the game you can send out an SOS for other players to dropship in if you want too.
The first game is brilliant this looks even better. I'll be buying Helldivers 2 day one.
I must be one of the only people who thinks this looks absolutely atrocious for a PS5 exclusive release. I just... don't get the hype. Sure, it's got a fun sense of humor, but... everything looks bland af and the environments look empty. It has a lot of particle effects flying around but otherwise it looks stilted as hell in the animations. And the gun designs are generic and boring, too. It just does nothing for me aesthetically.
And yes, I played the first Helldivers AND I love TPS titles AND co-op games AND PvE games. It should literally be right up my alley and it's just... not exciting me in the slightest.
Should've stuck with top down twin stick shooter formula of the first one.
Loved the first one and this looks great, can't wait for release. Time for a cup of LiberTea
@DanteDevilHunter I might actually buy it. It's $49.99 CAD, I expected it to be more expensive, even if it wasn't full price.
