Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden is out on PS5 next month, and despite being shown off at various gaming events last year, it feels like the intriguing action title is struggling to stand out. Publisher Focus Entertainment is trying its best to get some eyes on the game, and so it's pumping out these smaller gameplay trailers — each one of them sporting a release date reminder at the end.
To be fair to Banishers, the current PS5 schedule is a bit mental. Set to launch on the 13th February, the project finds itself surrounded by titles like Persona 3 Reload, Helldivers 2, and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth (just to name a few). Indeed, even with its release date looming, Banishers wasn't able to make our Top 20 Most Anticipated Games of 2024 list, as voted for by Push Square readers.

I’m cautiously interested. It could be that special type of AA game we get with Plague Tale and I love that, but it’s also releasing in a really condensed time right before, let’s be real, Final Fantasy 7 puts everything else on hold. With this one, Ultros, and Pacific Drive all pretty much falling on top of each other and, you know, the value of money being less than what it was two years ago, I think I’m going to have to wait on reviews for this one.
TloU: No Return - January
Granblue Fantasy Relink - February
Helldivers 2 - February
FF VII Rebirth - February
Unicorn Overlord - February
Rise of the Ronin - March
Dragon's Dogma II - March
I'm trying to play fewer games these days...
I won't be getting everything on this list at launch even, so I'm afraid Banishers is already falling through the cracks for me.
I'm interested, but I won't have the time.
Nothing against this game but can't see a future where this doesn't bomb. It has "Immortals of avium" written all over it
It's unfortunate because I am interested in this one but I'm afraid I'm at my limit of time available. I'm just sinking in RPGs at the moment and while I want see how this one turns out there seriously is just too much to play at the moment. Hopefully I'll be able to give it a whirl later in the year.
Some of these games really need to get delayed out of February. So weird how the last few Februaries have been so stacked
Looks interesting but there’s just so many games coming out. What to do 😱
@somnambulance Nice that someone else knows about Ultros. PS5 physical exclusive btw, just like Gamedec and Wizard with a Gun. Trying to get them all.
This game has the same narrative director as Vampyr, that fact alone makes this a day one for me.
@Jayslow February / March can be a hotspot for a lot of companies looking to appear healthy before the end of the fiscal year, so that definitely plays some part in why the first few months of a year can be so crowded.
It is crazy though, like you say. The early 2024 schedule is manic, to the point where Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth launches a week before Persona 3 Reload, despite both games being from the same publisher (technically). Then you've got Dragon's Dogma 2 releasing on the same day as Rise of the Ronin. Just seems unnecessary, at least from our perspective!
I certainly don't envy games like Banishers — it's going to need a lot of luck.
I'm definitely interested in it. I actually think that the release schedule for the beginning of the year is being drastically overhyped and more than a few of those hyped games look like more hard pass re-released content. Especially so if you don't like jrpg stuff much.
Aside from Rebirth, none of the rest is of interest unless Dragons Dogma turns out to be more than what was shown thus far.
Definitely have banishers on my radar along with pacific Drive.
@Sil_Am I don’t know why Ultros hasn’t had much coverage lately. It was on the last Sony showcase, after all. It looks like it could be a truly unique Metroidvania and a shot at Sony trying genres that are typically more popular on other consoles. I feel like, if Ultros were on Switch, more people would be talking about it, unfortunately. I’m contemplating preordering that one and Pacific Drive, just based on what I’ve seen, given that they’re not $70 games.
They delayed to an even worse time with all the big japan games coming for me. Definitely a major sale game
I've ready forgotten about this game
The original release would have been better than this new one, but I'm guessing they want this out before the financial year ends for shareholding purposes. It always boils down to the investors.
It looks interesting but there are a lot of games out in late January and into February and I don't want to bankrupt myself haha.
Well, I'm looking forward to play this in February as nothing else picked my interest in that month. I'm not a Final fantasy nor a Persona fan, so it's absolutely fine for me. March looks amazing with Rise of the Ronin and Dragon's Dogma 2!
Yes, they should not have delayed it. However, it does not matter to me. This will be the first one to get in 2024 just will wait for some review to make sure. But it is 99% sure. Till then I need to finish Jedi Fallen order (yes, shame on me that i am now discovering this game) and i got in ps plus Wild west which i will give a shot to.
this game should honestly get delayed till April, there's like nothing in there other than Eiyuden and Unicorn Overlord.
I feel confused watching this trailer 🫣
I’m really excited for this one. I love the concept of it, so I really hope it delivers.
Sorry, but this game about to get murdered in sales by the other big releases. That doesn't mean to say that I'm not interested in this game either. But I doubt I'll get round to it any time soon.
I am quite looking forward to this game and was disappointed it was delayed previously. I am just also put off by the phrasing of this article, while I completely endorse that the game is highlighted front and centre and hopefully will push sales the article title preface of "PS5's" infers this title is a PS5 exclusive. It isn't. This game is cross platform. As I own both consoles, I will buy depending upon which version is a) cheaper and b) the better version, without an element of fanboyism. Journalism sites need to be mindful of inaccuracies and provide the correct information when making articles.
The other important issue is to correctly support the developer. Sales for any version of the game will help that support and more chances of more good games being produced.
