Proving the timeless power of the IP, an affirmational Tweet from the official Spyro the Dragon account has caused a stir, fueling speculation that another entry in the series might be in the offing. The Spyro: Reignited Trilogy was released in 2018 on PS4, and outside of an appearance in Crash Team Rumble, we haven't seen much of our scaly pal lately, and it's well past time for a follow-up. The account posted an image of the charismatic Spyro smiling, inlaid with text that inspires: "You gotta believe!"
This is the lovable lizard's 2024 motto, a vibe we can get behind if it means more draconic action. Of course, with the series most recently handled by developer Toys for Bob and published by Activision, there's a chance that whatever comes next could be an Xbox exclusive. Parent company Microsoft recently completed its acquisition of Activision as part of an industry-shaking $69 billion acquisition. We want to believe, and will be watching this space closely as the year progresses.
How do you feel about Spyro the Dragon these days? Has this uplifting tweet teased some hype out of you for a potential sequel? Let us know in the comments section below.

Fingers crossed. I love Crash Bandicoot but Spyro’s gameplay always vibed with me more. I’d love to see their take on a “Spyro 4”.
@Jamesblob I would say that hopefully it is exclusive so the ps site stops talking about ms constantly but Bethesda news are a constant here so it doesn't work LOL
I don't wanna get my hopes up and be let down later but yeah, I wanna believe.🙏
Why would anyone think a new Spyro would come to Playstation after the Microfost/Activision deal?
@Olmaz because MS themselves said they want all gamers keep being welcome to their games, not just Xbox players
Don't... don't give me hope.
@Skeletor85 yeah we we all know MS are a bastion of truthfulness 😂😂
Let's all hope it won't be an unplatinumable expert overkill like Crash 4.
Well, instead of pondering what that tweet means, I'll just point out that this year is the year of the dragon, that and Riot just teased a Spyro-like dragon champion.
So yeah, I'd bet they just wanted to ride that wave and get some free views
Eh if its exclusive to xbox, i’ll either skip it or wait till its cheap enough to get with reward points for free. Either way not giving money to them
So, I understand the dislike of Microsoft and the ABK acquisition, but it could well be the case that there would never have been another Spyro had it not been for that acquisition. Therefore, is it better that some will get to play a new game, or better that it was never made? Surely it's better that a new game is made, and will be playable on the Game Pass, than it did not exist at all?
I think that Spyro is also the perfect game for Microsoft to release on the PlayStation too. It isn't a system seller. People will not buy an Xbox simply to play the game, and I doubt that many will subscribe (even for a short time) to the Game Pass in order to play it. It therefore makes perfect sense to release it on all platforms...
I hope MS still lets Activision release future Spyro and Crash Bandicoot games on all platforms, like how they still support Minecraft on all platforms.
I like crash bandicoot more but a new spyro game would be welcome.word up son
@Fiendish-Beaver I think it's fair to say that if a Spyro game is going to be released anytime soon then it started development long before the ABK acquisition. Turn-around isn't that quick. The only likely impact MS could have is cancelling an already-in-development PS5 version like they did with Starfield and Indiana Jones (though obviously I hope that's not the case).
I would agree with you that development would have started before the ABK acquisition went through if the game is releasing in 2024, @AK4tywill. Having said that, there is no indication that the game is coming this year (or indeed that the game actually exists).
What I would say, is that as with all the CoD games being fixed on the Xbox a fair few months prior to the deal going through, it is entirely possible that Microsoft have 'encouraged' or even paid for development of some games with the expectation of the deal being subsequently approved. After all, the deal was never really in doubt, and that was evident from the outset once the FTC had stated the grounds on which they were going to oppose the deal.
The only other thing I would say, is that on a game such as this, development time would likely be anything from 18 months to 3 years. The 5 to 7 years we are seeing are for big AAA games, not small AA games the likes of Spyro. So if the game does indeed come out next year, it is entirely possible that it was pretty much started under Microsoft ownership. However, as you say, that may not be the case if it comes out this year...
2024 is year of the dragon...seems perfect for an official Spyro 4.
It would make financial sense for Spyro and Crash to continue to be multi-platform. Let's hope...
@Skeletor85 @PixelDragon Fair enough.
But I'll stay skeptical until I see it. It will come down in the end at where Microsoft sees more benefits : more console exclusives to bring people to their platform, or more direct revenues from selling the games on all platforms...
I can’t say I care about this IP. I never did. But if it’s going to be good I’ll give it a go, why not.
Cheers.
Since Spyro is owned by MS now, doubt we'd get it.
Yea don't get your hopes up, as of right now seems unlikely it will appear on PlayStation
