Bandai Namco has revealed the opening movie for Tekken 8, and it's really bloody good. Fans of the series will know that every game has come with its own CG intro, and the upcoming instalment is no different. There's loads of action, a bit of insight into the core conflict between Jin and Kazuya, and, perhaps most importantly, cool cameos from just about every character in the game's base roster. It's all very hype.
But that's not all. Tekken 8's first DLC character has been confirmed, and it's a fresh-looking Eddy Gordo. The capoeira master will arrive this spring, and is the first of four promised characters (with the next three releasing in summer, autumn / fall, and winter respectively).

I’m not the biggest fan of fighting games, in fact, I’m pretty useless at them, but this looks awesome. I also played a few rounds of the demo over Christmas with my brother and enjoyed it even more than Street Fighter 6 (where he beat me almost every time). Man, I’m feeling the hype and really want to add Tekken 8 to my growing PS5 collection.
Amazing opening, and one hell of a song.
But have to say I really dislike the announcement of DLC characters already. Straight up makes the game feel like it's unfinished and just pushed out fast.
The game looks fantastic but unfortunately not worth $70 for me at least, they basically just confirmed like Tekken 7 it will have many season passes. Also Eddie is one of the most recognized characters in the series so having him as dlc is pretty off-putting.
Tekken 7 had four seasons worth of DLC, so why are we that surprised that Tekken 8 is getting DLC too?
I think Tekken 8 will be my birthday present to myself and I think it’ll be my favorite gift as well. I liked the demo more than both Street Fighter 6 and Mortal Kombat 1 on a gameplay level and I’ve loved both of them, so needless to say, I can’t wait!
And if Tekken Bowl is DLC, I’m ready and waiting. I know the whole fighting games and DLC thing is expensive and obnoxious, but I will support Tekken Bowl however I can. That’s the DLC I’ll get excited about.
I wonder how stupid the guy who made those comments about Harada being racist feels right now.
Cool.word up son
How do I have to pay extra for Eddy man, he's like a default character!
@AdamNovice because the game isn't even out and they're already locking characters behind a pay wall. DLC is fine when it's adding to an already complete experience. Also just because it was in the previous game it doesn't make it ok that its in this one.
That's ridiculous dlc already 🙄
Eddy looking better than ever.
I'm not sure why people are even discussing DLC with fighting games - it's now the current norm. As long as Tekken doesn't go down the dead or alive 6 route or lootboxes / 3 types of currency etc then I'll be happy to buy season passes and expand the roster. Quite a big roster to start with also, so that's better than SF6 already.
It's shaping up to be great, the demo I've enjoyed way more than SF6, mainly the battles are more exciting and technical. I'll probably be buying soonish!
@Blaze215 The game comes out in less than two weeks, but it looks like they are still working on Eddy, as shown in the video. Sure, they could just delay the game and add him in then, but I'm guessing they just started working on his character, due to him coming in the spring.
Jun's first official appearance since Tekken 2 - that alone is going to jake this a purchase for me. It was always implied that she was Angel so I'm guessing that is how they are going to go with this.
Y'know.... in retrospect, Namco have absolutely neutered Ogre. I remember back in the days of Tekken 3 it was basically assumed that every Tekken 2 character not in that game was killed by Ogre. That was kind of his thing. But over the years basically every one of them has returned to the point that his only confirmed kill is the original King - which kind of sucks given how he was easily one of the most kind hearted guys in the franchise.
Reina's looking like a "reina" indeed.
Can’t wait so hyped. Not a fan of eddy though
Tekken 8 is an absolute winner. The demo made it pretty evident that it’s going to be a smash hit.
But… it also reminded me of how complex Tekken is, and the high bar of memorizing combo strings and moves just doesn’t work me for me any more. Sad to say that I cancelled my preorder after playing the demo.
But yeah, dedicated fighting game and Tekken fans are about to eat reeeeeal good!
PS - there are SO many characters to choose from at launch, so can’t feel too burnt by upcoming DLC characters.
@rawzeku DLC is a scam now
Decent intro but it doesn't come close to the PS1&2 titles' intros imo.
Eddy's design is fine...except for having "that" haircut. Thank god we can customize.
I'm disappointed it's Eddy as he's not for me, but also glad as I can leave the DLC until at least Summer now.
@Blofse That you have accepted it does not mean people can't complain about it. And I I agree announcing DLC before the release is a joke and does make it feel like a unfinished product at the release date.
I know it won't change but locking characters behind money significantly reduced the amount of time I spent on Tekken 7 and Soul Calibur 6 compared to earlier entries. It ends up costing a fortune unless you wait until the next one is announced. Pretty much ruined my enjoyment of fighting games.
Unpopular opinion, I kind of like DLC characters being released at regular intervals after the main game. Gives me something to look forward to.
I don't really mind paying 20 quid for a year either. That's just pocket money and I barely notice it. Cost of a full brand new game on the other hand is another matter.
I just love that opening that has that Infinity War/Endgame moment and that first DLC character Eddy is cool but we all knew he was coming.
@Blofse Shaw Brothers 🤘🏻
