A Bloodborne remake, remaster, or even just a re-release has been at the top of many FromSoftware fans' wishlists for years now, but as more time passes and other titles receive such treatment over the PS4 classic, hope might be starting to fade. Sony owns the IP so FromSoftware has no real control over what happens with it, but as part of a rare interview opportunity with Hidetaka Miyazaki, Eurogamer posed the question of a Bloodborne remake to the game's own creator.
"It is a title we hold very dear and just as much as our fans. It does make me very happy to see that there are still so many people passionate about it," he said. Miyazaki believes that "new hardware is definitely a part of what gives these remakes value", and that things like being able to render specific expressions "sometimes makes it possible" when it wasn't before on an older console. The outlet alludes to how the remake of Demon's Souls waited two generations before the new version released as a PS5 launch title, so the case could be the same for Bloodborne.
"However, I wouldn't say that's the be all and end all," he adds. "I think purely from a user perspective, modern hardware also allows more players to appreciate all the games. And so, it ends up being a simple reason, but as a fellow player, I think that accessibility is important. I think that can be the driving force between bringing an old game to a new platform."
No matter whether it remains forever as a PS4 exclusive or is re-released in the future, Miyazaki looks back fondly on Bloodborne and is pleased it still has a fanbase. "Put simply, it makes me very happy to see it's a title with a lot of specific memories, both for me and the staff who worked on it."
Do you think a Bloodborne remake will ever happen, or have you given up hope? Let us know in the comments below.

It's bonkers to me we haven't seen anything related to Bloodborne yet. I know the enthusiast crowd is small and loud, but you still feel even just an upgraded version of the original would sell VERY well on PS5 and PC.
I mean, the numbers Helldivers 2 has been doing on Steam are crazy, but surely a well executed, high quality port of Bloodborne would match those figures — especially after Elden Ring!
I always thought sony owned the IP after Japan Studio was shuttered. Doubt they’d do anything without Fromsoft being involved in some way though. Would be there day one for anything new related to Bloodborne. Just kind of assumed they’d lost the source code at this point after having done nothing with it for so long 🤣
My ears somehow pricked and I was drawn to push square for some mystical reason. And yes PC community would go insane for Bloodborne. Lost count of the amount of steam reviews for Sony games mentioning it. But imagine a bluepoint remake like Demon Souls on ps6? Brings tears to my eyes.
@get2sammyb Agreed. It's such an important part of PlayStation's history, and it's barely ever mentioned by either Sony or FromSoft. Was quite surprised to see Miyazaki actually talking about it here.
Even a PS5 patch to unlock the framerate would be grand.
Ps6 day one release confirmed
This is a misleading title, he didn't say "PS6" at all, he was talking about new hardware in general. That could be interpreted as PS5, PS5 Pro, PS6, basically anything beyond the original platform Bloodborne released on. Technically PS4 Pro as well but I think we can all agree that ship has sailed long ago.
I'm okay with a PS6 remake of Bloodborne, I adore BB with all my heart but if it means we get a damper, more festering Yharnam during the quieter period around a new systems launch I am all for it.
Has nothing to do with being overwhelmed with a backlog of massive titles.
A free PS5 60 fps patch would be great, but I think that people would also spend full price for a native PS5 version (Bloodborne Remasted) with some minor tweaks (60 fps mode and 60+ fps VRR mode, DualSense support, very quick loading).
Why a Bloudborne Remake for for PS6, if they could also make a Bloodborne 2 instead? Is asking for new games really inappropriate these days?
@Max_the_German Yeah, I'm not that surprised that some of these things are not happening, but really, really fn surprised none of these things are happening.
To elaborate, if there was a hypothetical PS5 remake/remaster version in the works, then I'd see them not wanting to patch the game for business/greed reasons (you want 60fps, you'll have to buy the new version). Fine, not great, it is what it is.
But if something like this is not in the works, which it doesn't look like it is, then why on earth not release a patch?
The fact that one of the most popular PS IPs is just sitting there rotting away is mind boggling.
Stop with this business plan already! Build new games
@DrClayman @get2sammyb The Bloodborne comic book line is ongoing. It's been around for years now.
They definitely have some kind of plan for this franchise. Either they're keeping it hush hush, or they don't quite know what to do with it yet.
It's sold over 7 million units on PlayStation, but it took 7 years to get there. I always had the impression that it was a slow but steady burn after the first few months.
A remaster on PC and PS5 would probably match those numbers now, in much quicker time too I'm sure.
Then give us a sequel...
And the remasters and remakes already begin for next generation. It’s almost getting to be a waste of time buying new generation consoles.
This generation being the worse across this current Sony and Xbox generation ever.
I'm sorry but where exactly is the reference to PS6 or a next generation console in his words?
"New hardware" can be considered PS5 in this case, since the game was released on PS4.
It's the second time this happened recently - first time was with "The PS5 will be entering it's latter stage" which was reported by the media as "The PS5 generation is half over".
I will wait for the 4K 60FPS on PS7
All i need is 60 fps patch.
People talk about Bluepoint remakes but some say the Demon Souls Remake lacked some vibe, atmosphere of the original. No matter how many times San Andreas has been remastered and remade, they say it lacks the original atmosphere. So I think it's time the industry leaves games as they are and move on. Else we're going to be stuck in this Remasters loop going forward.
@Ainu20 Yep, it's as if PS5 doesn't even exist.
As others have said, I’d prefer just a PS5 patch, like what was done for God of War, Days Gone, and The Last of Us Part II (before the recent remaster). Just a few little performance optimizations like increase in frame rate and that would be enough for me to play it again. I do think that might be enough to sell a few more copies on PS5 since so much time has passed, although it wouldn’t sell enormous numbers like a full remaster with PC port would. But I might buy the DLC if they did the PS5 patch, so perhaps there some money to be made from it. I never got around to The Old Hunters and a 60 fps patch would be all excuse I’d need to go back to it and try a different build.
Bloodborne is just fine as is, make Bloodborne 2 plz.
@TheArt If anyone's saying that about Demon's Souls, they're an extreme minority, the large majority of people love that remake.
And San Andreas' port was just utter garbage.
You can do a good port, and a good remake. Of course there's bad examples out there.
It looks like people will be hoping for PS4 emulation to start going into full swing one day then.
I thought we wanted NeW gAmEzz and to stop with the ports/upgrades/ remakes trend. Playstation and From have both moved on. Maybe in the future we get it or we live with the fact that we don't.
He didn't say anything that we didn't already know.
It only comes to reinforce what I've been saying for years... Sony is keeping it on ice for a next console.
As we approach the launch of PS5 Pro, and still no peep, It will most likely be remade for PS6.
"new hardware is definitely a part of what gives these remakes value"
Heh... rather the other way around for Sony, who's using those very appreciated IP Remakes to boost initial console adoption and sales...
As for a PC version - given Sony's recent trend it may be possible that Bloodborne will one day come to PC...
But on the other hand, Sony will keep this Miyazaki creation exclusive for the Playstation consoles, just like Demon's Souls (that still doesn't have a PC version even if it's been more than 3 years since launch...).
Time will tell I guess...
@Th3solution There wasn't any real money in it. The Insomniac leaks showed the game sold 10 million units BUT the average cost per unit was among the lowest on the PS4 (that means the game mostly sold only in heavy discounts).
Still don't get that buzz arround BB remake? That game has good graphics (if you are colorblind nevermind - it has no colors). And gameplay is... as it is. So I don't see any reason for remake. Nightmare Creatures deserves remake, not Bloodborne...
I'm still convinced they are waiting for Bluepoint games to be available, which from what we know would be the game after next.
I read his comments as PS5 Pro
@get2sammyb Would Sony port that game to PC though? Demons Souls remake was a launch title and that has no signs of going anywhere despite almost everything after being ported.
@Shepherd_Tallon I've always wondered if those sales figures are genuine sales, or include downloads/claims as they gave it away for free on all new PS5's, same as Days Gone. I don't know if there's any concrete evidence or not? But if they are sales, it'd be interesting to know the total numbers including the free downloads and claims too. And if not, the proportion of sales vs free downloads.
Honestly, the game doesn't need a remake, just a 60 fps patch.
@Ravix Good points.
I only base that number on a google search. Apparently that 7mil+ number was only revealed because of the leaks too.
It's hard to know.
@Athrum this. I could care less about the ps6 when the ps5 hasn't really got going properly yet.
Just have Bluepoint remake this in the same fashion as Demon's Souls and accept my worship already.
Can't believe that chap modded Bloodborne (and Arkham Knight amongst others) to run at 60fps on a jailbroken PS5.
Pay the man SONY, get that patch code from him and release to the masses!!
Smart man. I can see how two half ass generational jumps would equate to an actual next gen shift.
They should admit they just don't want to bother with a free patch to run 60fps.
Greedy, they'll keep people wanting for a resale of the game as a remaster remake instead.
Pretty scummy, im still waiting to play thru it, did a few hours and it's just too slow running, not pleasant really.
My conspiracy theory is that Sony wants people to work on ps4 emulation so they will never release Bloodborne on newer platforms.
Doesn’t even need a remake just unlock FPS so it’s consistent 60. Playing on ps5 feels like the FPS is way below 30 while Elden Ring butter smooth 60. If modders can do it then surely it’s possible somehow. Please FromSoftware?
Save it for PS6.
Ah yes, let's buy the PS6 to play a remake of a game that came out a decade ago...
I'm going to say something controversial... please do not let Bluepoint anywhere near this game. I thought Demons Souls remake looked great, played great, but removed all of the soul from the original. All of the weird choices Fromsoft made were completely sanded off, they even turned the cool menu designs from the original into some boring old autodesk looking menus. Depressing.
sorry, but that is a really bad take. developers have all the power they need right now to do a quick and dirty remaster of the game. people don't want a remake, they just want to rid themeselves of the odd frame pacing and performance issues of the game.
Bloodborne felt like a low-effort production, with world assets copy/pasted from Demons Soul world 3, and the same enemies and combat mechanics through all the adventure. Not to mention to procedurally generated dungeons. If they truly spend time to hand craft a Bloodborne setting on next gen consoles, let's go directly for a Bloodborne 2 rather than a remaster/remake that is not needed.
@get2sammyb honestly call me crazy but I think From should buy the IP out from under them like they did with Elden Ring. I feel we could see so much more that way.
With how much Bloodborne's popularity and intrigue has increased over the years, not to mention Elden Ring's massive success, a remake with a simultaneous PS5/PC release would do big numbers. There's no way Sony doesn't have something in the works. I'd definitely be there day one, especially in having spent such little time with the original game.
I will never give up hope.
@breakneck That’s interesting. (I hadn’t read much of the leak info) I guess I’m not surprised. There’s definitely a difference between total unit sales and profitability. Like movies, games make their money mostly on launch success. Nevertheless, I think any sales that Bloodborne could garner at this point would be icing on the cake. The investment for creating a PS5 patch is likely pretty low, I’d suspect, even if potential sales at a $20 price point wouldn’t make much money.
But like others have said, the flip-side is that a PS5 patch likely cannibalizes potential remaster sales for later.
it would make perfect sense to prepare BB remake for ps6 launch...DS started it all but BB is considered by many as true masterpiece so has definitely bigger potential to convince to buy ps6.
Business wise, I don't understand why DS remake is not on PC already. They put there Sackboy where it was clear even to non-experts like me that this will fail on PC. Looking at success of ER, I would not be surprised if DS remake is already in the works for PC. BB remaster/remake potentialy day1 on ps and PC maybe not seems real now but who knows in few years...
