Square Enix has today updated the PS5 demo for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, with the patch up for download now. This improves the visuals when you play in Performance Mode, and introduces new content based in the Junon region of the upcoming game. You'll be able to explore part of the Junon area, as long as you're happy to sit and wait for the 1.65GB update to install.
If you have not already played the PS5 demo, this update adds to pre-existing content of the first chapter, which sees Cloud and Sephiroth jointly explore Nibelheim and its reactor. If you complete the demo, you'll be rewarded with bonus items in the full game and the chance to carry your demo progress over.
Will you check out this new content, or are you leaving it for next week's launch on 29th February 2024? Let us know in the comments below.

@LiamCroft Do you need to complete the demo to unlock the bonus items in the full game?
I could swear I read that all you need is a save file from the demo.
Am I the only who thinks it's kinda weird that there's a patch + content update for a demo?
Anyway I'll just wait for the game to release next week (hope I'll be able to finish P3R til then)
@mariomaster96 The staggered content release is interesting but I think the patch is a good thing, since a lot of people were concerned about the image quality in performance mode
@mariomaster96 they always announced the staggered release schedule of the demo, and the performance mode patch is to assure players that the demo was on a far earlier build. For those old enough this is nothing compared to the Episode Duscae demo for FF15 that the team spent months patching instead of making the actual game.
@Jayslow I know that it was always announced as a staggered release but I think that's the first time I've ever seen a staggered release for a demo
I just went straight for the boss as I’m on my lunch and don’t wanna explore to much since I’ll do that when the game releases but I died like 3 times and still not beat the boss 😂
I played the new content for 30 minutes before work and loved it. Getting to play Red, the incredible music, the glorious battle mechanics... Shout out to the Chadley A.I. that speaks thru the controller with well-written enemy lore you'd normally have to read. I'm still butt hurt they cut the earth and water elements but I can't wait to sink my teeth next week
No thanks. I ordered the physical deluxe edition already. Hopefully I get it very soon after launch! TWO DISCS BABY!!!!!!
Given how important first impressions from a demo can be for securing a sale I find it weird that Square enix would release a demo that then needed patching. If it could be patched this quickly why not wait and release the demo now and not risk putting some folks off and lose a sale?
Its been torture...but I'm waiting to start from the beginning next week!
I haven’t even been able to play the demo, I’m squeezing every second of my time to replay and platinum FFVII Remake just in time for Rebirth!
Still looks pretty bad. Waiting for PS5 Pro to play this one.
"Quality" mode:
@MUG3NHC I can't tell if you're joking, sarcastic or serious. For well over a decade those of us that played and loved the original on PS1 have been asking for a remake, and now not only do we get a remake, but it's a reimagining that promises to rewrite the story in a ways fans will draw nostalgia from and enjoy, all in modern graphics.
And then we've got you being a sour-puss, stomping your feet and complaining that it's not good enough. Maybe Square-Enix should have called it in and reimagined the tale, but with PS1 era graphics...
@Mortal Tomb Raider Remastered released this week. In every way it's what you've talked about. It's been received well but it's only going to cater to die hard fans of the originals. Most players won't touch it with a bargepole.
And here we have Square releasing something which looks amazing in a way that, having played the original, I'm really excited to see. And people are concentrating much more on the 4K at 60fps.
Honestly, I played the demo on performance and didn't even notice any issue. I was just so excited to see Nibelheim once again.
@MUG3NHC How does that look bad. Please explain where?
Just finished. I absolutely can't wait to dive into the full game.
Playing this after 16 feels so weird and genuinely clunky.
Did anyone else find the giant fish boss rock hard on normal. Had to switch to easy to beat it.
@Mortal
You accept it in its current state and i don't. We can argue about it all day long. I think it looks poor and they could've done better. I'm happy to wait for an updated version. You can enjoy what you have now. Everybody's happy.
@Torque
To specify. Textures, geometry and lighting are poor.
@MUG3NHC It's a fantasy world though, the game isn't trying to capture realism. Cloud's Buster Sword should have given that away already.
@Torque
You're talking about design and i agree, it doesn't have to look realistic.
What i mean though, are poor graphics.
@MUG3NHC I think it's fine, considering Part 1 wasn't match better. Specially doors, if you recall. The doors didn't even open the right way, when pushed, so this is definitely a step up. At the same time, this is the same game sequel. You can't have the graphics improved too match, else the continuity would seem off. Again, I'm finding the graphics alright. Nothing eye jarring like the doors from Part 1.
@MUG3NHC just gave it a go after update and I completely agree with you. Performance mode is still a blurry downgraded mess. Depth of field, shadows, pop in, texture quality it's all just not great in motion at all. Somehow the character models look even more blurry standing right next to them. It's like looking through someone else's prescription glasses when viewing Tifa and sephiroth standing right next me, without movement. Noticing some studdering during traversal that wasbt there before as well.
Not sure what this patch actually did to address the concerns many raised but it looks just as muddied as before.
Bummer I genuinely hoped they were really going to buckle down and address this based on that criticism and their response to it ("The update to the Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth demo scheduled for February 21 will apply improvements to the visual quality when selecting Performance Mode from the graphics options," ) I have been looking forward to this just as much as those attacking anyone pointing out these very really issues...
This ain't it. Definitely going to wait on this and see if it gets meaningfully addressed. This level of blur is distracting to the overall experience.it really feels like this needed more time in the oven.
I’m going to buy Rebirth and hopefully have just as good of a time with it as I did with the Remake, but I’m also disappointed by the visuals as someone who just played Integrade like a month ago, doubly so after they mentioned that this patch would improve things. If it did, it sure isn’t noticeable to my eye.
Again, I’ll play this at release, but I wish it’d look better in Performance. I remember Forbidden West had a similar issue, but it did at least get fixed and the game looked noticeably better then, even if it was 4-5 months after launch.
