The Plucky Squire captured our attention the moment we laid eyes on its debut trailer, and we can't wait to see what it has in store for us when it launches later this year on PS5. The action adventure game presents itself as a gorgeous storybook quest, but the real hook is that the main character, Jot, can hop into the third dimension at certain spots, and continue his journey in the "real" world. This new gameplay trailer gives us just one example of how the two perspectives allow for some inventive puzzles.
Jot and his friend Thrash are travelling through the book, and come up against a blocked path. To open the gate, they need a pass, which can be found inside a nearby cave. Jot hops out of the book and looks for one, flipping the pages of the book to find it. Hopping back to 2D, he journeys through the cave to find an old mine, then has to combine the second and third dimensions to solve a simple puzzle. In 3D, Jot can lift one side of the book to tip a platform so it slides into a new position, allowing him to advance within the book.
It just looks so imaginative and clearly has buckets of charm. This is just one short puzzle, and we can't wait to see what else The Plucky Squire has up its sleeve.

This looks super cool and I'm definitely buying it
I'm interested in this game the first time I saw the first trailer, even before the dimensions hopping from 2D to 3D. After watching the game seamlessly transform from 2D into 3D I think I'll get this day one, I love innovative gameplay like this 😃
I’m hoping this one comes out in April or May, in just enough time for me to clear through most of what came out this month, but just enough before Erdtree, so this can stand on its own without other distractions.
Date please. Still wondering why this wasn’t in the ND?
This game looks charming AF but I have a suspicion that the gameplay is going to be a let down. I think it's the top down combat with a tiny sword that concerns me. Those games never feel great. Hopefully they mix up the gameplay enough for it to not matter.
The plucky squire looks so cool.word up son
Not going to watch this trailer, I have seen enough, am already sold and want to be surprised. But I am hyped for it!
Given that it's coming on the Switch, I have a few reservations but it does look cool.
Also, surprised, if it can run on a Switch, that the PS4 and XBone aren't getting it too?
I love the art style, but absolutely hate puzzles.
The plucky squire loiks amazing from the debut trailer.and its even looking better.devolver. digital games are really good.word up son
I can barely believe it, but I immediately recognized the art style as belonging to James Turner, who designed loads of ugly Pokemon from Gen 5 onwards and became lead designer from Gen 8 onwards.
Just checked, he left Game Freak. Brilliant news.
