Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has now comfortably surpassed 10 million units sold, accurate as of 4th February, 2024. It took the original game a little under a year to topple 13.2 million units, so this is clearly an exceptional result for the sequel. It’s also worth noting that as around 55 million PS5 consoles have been sold, approximately one-in-five bought Peter Parker and Miles Morales’ latest.
The series as a whole is now at an eye-watering 50 million units, and developer Insomniac Games was eager to thank fans for their support in a post on social media: “Thank you for the support and for making this spectacular journey possible,” it wrote. It attached an adaptation of a popular Jack Nicholson GIF featuring Venom.
We loved Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 in our review, explaining: “Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is a confident sequel that builds on the previous games in practically every way possible. Smart additions and refinements to traversal, combat, and open world activities mean this is the best Spidey game from Insomniac yet. We do have some minor criticisms about the story, and the combat does become repetitive eventually, but this is overall an absolute blast full of moments that'll surprise and delight.”

Which poo-poos all the Sony First-party games don’t sell rhetoric I’ve been hearing on x-box podcasts this past week 😎
Really enjoyed this game, although I found the story a bit lacking. The game definitely peaks in the second act with the symbiote stuff - once venom comes in the story falls off a cliff. And unfortunately, even after his own game and sharing a spotlight in this one, Insomniac's Miles is still dreadfully dull, with zero interesting character traits beyond "nice guy who likes music". Really pales in comparison to Spiderverse's absolutely incredible depiction.
With all that said, I still love this game, the combat and traversal are better than ever, and I really enjoyed all the side content FAR more than the first game. So much so that it's my first ever platinum!
@BranJ0 I agree 100% with everything you wrote about the story side of the game - but please chuck some spoiler tags into your post!
Fantastic result. Well done Insomniac. Very well deserved
@LN78 yes of course, sorry about that!
It's a solid if overly safe sequel. I had a blast for every minute of the 30ish hours it took to platinum. But it fell short of the first two games for me and I hope for a few more risks in the next.
The game deserves it for the Howard mission alone.
@colonelkilgore I mean it’s Spider-Man.
@Shad361 aye but I’ve lost count of the people who’ve misunderstood the info from the insomniac leak and now take it as gospel that Sony makes no profit from their first party blockbusters… it’s hilarious!
N.i.c.e. 🕷 spiderman 2 is one of the best games of 2023.thats a lot.10 million units sold word up son
Spider-Man 2 is an excellent game that deserves every bit of its immense success. After Rebirth and Helldivers 2, I plan on swinging back into the game for new game+.
I’m planning on hitting up the library tomorrow to borrow either this, Spider-Man 2, or God of War Ragnarok, which were both on the shelf last week when I went to pick up my tax forms but I couldn’t play b/c of my hand surgery, doc said I was good to go this morning.👍
So which game do you all think is shorter, want to play the shorter one first in case my hand isn’t up too long play times, library borrow is a week.
Spiderman 2 is a huge downgrade from the first, The insomniac formula is getting tired. I hope they take their time with the other 100 Marvel IP's they are working on to change things up.
Also hire some new writers too.
@colonelkilgore I'd say this falls in line with most metrics that I have calculated where first-party games sell about 20% of the actual userbase of the system.
The pretty much applies to all consoles.
I 100%ed it and enjoyed every hour of it.
It's in my library, but it will forever be at the 14 hour mark.
Storyline and dialogue was horrendous.
One of my biggest disappointments. I loved the first game as it was fresh and finally a good superhero game in a while. I stopped playing 2 after around 8 or so hours cause I felt myself being bored the whole time. They need to work on their side mission stuff cause that is worse than ubisoft.
So, basically one in 5 ps5 owners has bought the game. It's impressive 👏
