Persona 3 Reload launched on PS5 and PS4 on Friday, introducing a new generation to the Dark Hour and giving veterans the best way yet to relive the adventure. And while Atlus predictably had a swathe of day-one DLC ready to go, the publisher has stated fans can feel confident this is the complete package, and no expanded edition ala Persona 4: Golden or Persona 5 Royal are planned.
Word comes to us by way of Indonesian outlet GamerWK, translated by Persona Central, with Persona Team production manager Kazuhisa Wada insisting that fans can buy Reload with a clear conscience: "Currently, we are not considering a revision like with Persona 5 to Persona 5 Royal, which involved significant changes and additions to the original title. Fans can rest assured knowing that Persona 3 Reload offers a complete experience."
Atlus has acquired something of a negative reputation as far as DLC is concerned, spurred on, no doubt, by parent company SEGA's constant pursuit of the bottom dollar. Infamously, Atlus refused to provide a free upgrade path for Persona 5 players on PS4 when the Royal Edition rolled around, demanding players pay full price to experience its expanded offerings, in a move which we called out as an insult to fans and the game itself.
Do you take Atlus at face value, that Persona 3 Reload is a complete package (excepting, of course, the rumoured epilogue The Answer)? Learn to trust again in the comments section below.

They are saying that now but we all know they don't mean that.
"Infamously, Atlus refused to provide any upgrade path for Persona 5 players when the Royal Edition rolled around, demanding players pay full price to experience its expanded offerings, in a move which we called out as an insult to fans and the game itself."
Inaccurate. Feel how you will about Royal being a separate release, but the linked article is talking about an upgrade path from PS4 Royal to PS5 Royal, not vanilla to Royal.
@Melee_Ace To be fair Royal could have certainly been a 30$ expansion.
Ah yes, "currently"! Hilarious! Come next month they will definitely start planning for the next versions of the game featuring FeMC and FES content.
Empty words from this scummy company.
Keyword there being Currently, Just like Square had no plans for FF16 DLC saying it was a complete game, Atlus ain't fooling no one.
@Melee_Ace, good catch! updated
Atlus alas you ain't foolin no one on this Atlas.
They saw too many people like me who are just planning on waiting for the actual definitive version of the game. They needed to make a statement about it.
I'm skipping this game. I didn't appreciate what Atlus did to fans with Persona 5. Voting with my wallet is all I can do as a responsible consumer .
@Nepp67 Not really, Royal's changes go far beyond a simple DLC. I do think they should have given a $20 discount for having the og, though.
@Foxhound dude, you saw the article on the Answer leak. Why does everyone think they would rerelease this, this isn't a new game. They already updated the base game, there is no need to release it again. I knew from the start this would be DLC.
@NotGeno They really don't, all of it could have easily been included as a 30 dollar dlc. This isn't like a remake of a game, not to mention there isn't graphical improvement and it's running off the same engine.
It is kind of a shame that the female character was scrapped and that the answer's (admittedly meh anyways) content wasn't included but pound for pound the sheer amount of content they DID add pretty much makes it worth it, for me anyways. Then again I never had any interest in playing the female route in the first place so if that was your preference then I can understand this being a major deal breaker.
"CURRENTLY, we are not considering a revision" (but we will in the future!)
Okay but I want FeMC though, I don't care how they do it, I want her to be playable and adding The Answer as DLC is meh.
@NotGeno dude, firstly, The Answer does not include FeMC. secondly, Atlus, being as money-hungry as they are, definitely would release an edition of P3R which includes its DLC, à la Cyberpunk Ultimate Edition and Resident Evil 4 Gold Edition.
Yes Atlus, and Vince McMahon is a pure and chaste soul who strives for and promotes women's rights.
The boy who cried wolf. You made your bed now lie in it. Fool me once… and many other maxims, fables and proverbs all spring to mind.
Currently I will not be buying your game.
Yeah, that's (almost certainly, like 99.9%) a lie.
I bought but we all know there will be a Royal edition.
One thing that is known is that they are looking at DLC, so they really could be moving the SEGA way of not doing who game launches and moving to post launch content. An insider did say they want to go down the RGG Lost Judgment post content DLC route. I personally hope they can make P4G in unreal engine 4 to out in in line with P3R. That would be great.
Also the other point missed is that a new version of Reload will be lapped up because honestly the quality of content per $/£ is very high and Altus has a huge loyal fanbase. I know for fact I'd be buying that Royal edition day one and I am not going to try and act cool and pretend otherwise.
I believe them. Because currently they are trying to focus on current sales. How about some promises we would be offered an upgrade for free should their plans change in weeks/months time
Let’s not blame Sega for things they have been doing since the ps2 era with various iterations of the same title.
Six months down the line: "We heard our fans who wanted more content in Persona 3 and are developing an extended version."
Lies. Watch they do make a definitive version. Persona 3 Live and Reloaded Edition
Yeah, okay Atlus
We've seen this game before
@Zenos Nah FeMC was a good addition, it was something different then the MC story . Same beginning and ending but different outcome of the story, that why like it. Only problem it was a psp portable, so it was downgrade to og P3.
Portable additions are irrelevant but FES is significant and they will do a revised edition with this in it eventually.
they should have said it ages ago if this was true. I also don't believe them. Either, they already lost the day 1 collector's edition from me because I do believe we will get the full version later.
For Persona 5, when I found out that the additional story from the DLC I bought was locked out of my 120 hours playthrough because I missed one conversation with the boring doctor before a specific day in the story, I told myself I would never support again Atlus.
It's safe to assume that every game that gets released can eventually get dlc . It's bigger news when I game doesn't get dlc.
read between the lines. that just means there won't be a physical complete edition. that isn't to say atlus won't milk this release with a ton of cosmetics and (potentially) dlc via digital distribution. you could argue that is even worse as they are likely going to slow down on their physical releases in the coming years like most publishers.
