The winds are changing, and single player Japanese RPGs are enjoying a bit of a renaissance as a result. We reported earlier in the week about how Steam player numbers were reflecting extremely well on titles like Granblue Fantasy Relink and Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, and now we have further evidence of the genre’s success: Persona 3 Reload has become Atlus’ fastest selling game ever.
Within a week, the title has sold over one million copies worldwide – and that’s despite it being included on Xbox Game Pass, which we’re assuming isn’t contributing to the numbers here.
Persona’s popularity has, of course, been trending upwards for a little while now: the PS Vita’s Persona 4 Golden achieved cult status which led to increased anticipation for Persona 5. This groundswell of enthusiasm eventually prompted protagonist Joker to be added to the uber-mainstream Super Smash Bros Ultimate, a sure-sign of the series’ newfound mainstream popularity.
It helps that Reload is an outstanding game, though. “In terms of gameplay, it's easily the best incarnation of a classic RPG, boasting countless quality of life and mechanical adjustments that place it alongside the outstanding Persona 5 Royal,” we wrote in our Persona 3 Reload PS5 review. “Storytelling enhancements make the plot even more impactful, and the remade visuals are a joy to behold. Reload is borderline essential if you're yet to experience Persona 3, while also providing a near perfect way for existing fans to relive a seminal release.”

Releasing on multiple plattforms simultaniously certainly did help
I wonder how fast it would have reached one million sales if it released on Switch as well
I Love that it's selling so well. Its nearly 6:30 in the morning and I'm up playing it right now! I finished Granblue Fantasy: Relink a couple of days ago, I have Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth to play next and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth out at the end of the month. It's a great time to be an RPG fan!
@Bentleyma That's one helluva selection of games!
Still plan on buying it but I'm going to wait for a sale or the ultimate deluxe whatever they plan on calling the upgrade.
I'm happy that more people are now enjoying the best persona story in my opinion.
Amazing what happens when they go on PC too day one.
I bought it but it will be sat on the shelf until i finish like a dragon and FF7 rebirth. So many games, too little time unfortunately
Persona has historically come out on one place, Playstation. So I'm glad they finally realized that there is a market for Persona on multiple platforms. I've been playing it on Game Pass PC and loving it.
Probably mostly sold on PC.
I don't know why people like to play on PC so much. To me it feels like such a hassle, and this is coming from someone who started gaming on a PC in the 90s, though for much of my childhood only pirated cracked games.
That is impressive numbers.
And 999,999 were on playstation 👍
Seriously though I wonder how many of those will buy the revamped edition next year.
@Sil_Am doubt it. Pc isnt as big as you think. Theres piracy and ppl who wait on steam sales. Sure theres some die hard fans but most of them are on consoles
@Contimaloris persona isnt what started their company tho. Shin megami tensei has a cult following on nintendo and persona is pretty much a newbies intro to the series. Shin megaten games are like the dark souls version compared to elden ring.
Fastest selling game? Guess they didnt compare sales to all time sold which is persona 5 R
@BansheeNorn It's probably very big in Asia, especially China, where they're not used to console gaming.
@Sil_Am PlayTracker says steam sales are 162.9k but I think they tend to undertrack early in the lifecycle. However, VG Insights says 195.2k and they tend to overtrack.
Probably somewhere in the 150-300k region for PC.
Wait until Persona 6 comes out. That’ll sell like pancakes
This is pretty much the reason XBox games might be coming to Playstation, people are willing to pay full price for a game that is Day One on Game Pass on other platforms.
Persona is bigger after the success of P5.
Also, it launched simultaneously on multiple platforms.
I'd be surprised if it wasn't.
SEGA having a good year with Infinite Wealth and Persona 3 Reload all selling 1 million copies in their first week
Nice, I heard there's rumor of persona 2 & 4 remake, bring "em in 😃
N.i.c.e. i enjoy persona 5 royal so its good that persona 3 reload is the fastest selling game in the franchises.word up son
@RawnDawn Atlus has promised there won't be a Royal or Golden edition of the game.
https://www.pushsquare.com/news/2024/02/no-expanded-royal-or-golden-edition-for-persona-3-reload-atlus-promises
SEGA got the gamepass money and sold loads. Great business move there. I tried it on gamepass and liked it so much I brough it for Xbox for a very good discount (online code).
I can't wait for P6, If it does lunch in 2025 alongside GTA6 that would be one of the biggest gaming years ever.
Pretty easy achievement to be fair, it's one of their first games to release for multiple platforms day one and a simultaneous worldwide launch. The only two games to precede it would be the more contentious releases of Soul Hackers 2 and P5 Tactica.
Still a great achievement though.
@UltimateOtaku91 There won't be because they're doing DLC instead as per Sega mandates.
Congratulations to them but I've already played p3 a few times I'm not looking to get it again anytime soon
@Bentleyma Same here.
P3 is one of my all time fav games and I'm so happy to see that the remake has done it justice AND the public receives it so well.
