The recently revealed (yesterday) Resident Evil 4 Gold Edition is getting a physical release for collectors, but apparently, this boxed version will only be available in Europe, releasing in March. Considering the game takes place in rural Spain, this makes sense, but ignoring the world's largest economy seems strange.
IGN got confirmation from a Capcom spokesperson that RE4 Gold Edition will remain a digital-only title in the U.S. when it releases on 9th February on PS5 and PS4: the offering bundles together the base game, expansion Separate Ways, and a bonus DLC pack. Like Remedy's Alan Wake 2, Capcom is the latest publisher to opt for the digital option for a major release, getting on board the $70 bandwagon with the upcoming Dragon's Dogma 2, rumoured to run at 30 frames-per-second on PS5 and confirmed to use a single save slot.
What do you think of Capcom's decision to release Resident Evil 4 Gold physically in Europe? Will you attempt to circumvent this apparent American embargo? Let us know in the comments section below.

Imagine if US websites gave this much thought to European countries. Digital is the way to go these days anyway especially with new content dropping, e.g. the gold edition content.
One of those games I’d probably use some of my CEX credit on when it was £20 or less, and I’d trade it back once finished, but no way would I pay digital prices. So, yeah, good news for me overall.
Probably base game disc + voucher for DLC like RE8 Gold. Who cares?
If it's really all on one disc like horizon, I might consider double dipping, if not then there's no reason to.
@vrubayka me? I haven't bought RE4 yet and will be buying it physically when I do, so this is up my street, if the price is right.
@K1LLEGAL "Digital is the way to go these days anyway"
Not according to Capcom and a physical release is always better then a digital release, in my eyes.
@Martijn87 Same here but only if it's like that I already own all the Resident Evil games with a special cover this would make it even better.
Finally, the EU gets revenge on the US for not getting a physical release for Drakengard 3
Will definitely check this one out. The RE 2 and 3 remakes were really good
I live in Europe so I will buy all of these limited quantity physical copies and scalp them on ebay. What a time to be alive.
@MattBoothDev used standard edition + buying the dlc will be cheaper than this 60$ "gold" edition. There's no significance to this release if the DLC isn't on disc
EMEA is a little more than just Europe.
@vrubayka Sure, I'll keep an eye out for a deal. I got Cyberpunk 2077 "Ultimate" for £33 from TheGameCollection on launch, which was at much as the Phantom Liberty DLC from PSN.
If I can find a similar deal I'll go for it.
Bizarre from Capcom, considering they usually give physicals to every region except Europe. It's nice to have it the other way around for a change. Is this releasing physically only on PS5, or PS4 too?
@Flaming_Kaiser they usually have better covers, that's how they get me 90% of the time. I'm a sucker for great boxart.
@Martijn87 Ja helemaal mee eens. Some covers are really bad but I really loved the Lenticular Editions I have them 2, 3 and 4.
If the extra content isn't on disc, who cares?
@haoie Has this been even confirmed?
They have a weird history with Gold Editions with sometimes appearing all on the disc whilst other times bundled with a code.
It could go either way.
