Select titles from Xbox's first-party studios are going multi-platform, and the first of the confirmed four is available now: Pentiment. From Fallout: New Vegas, The Outer Worlds developer Obsidian Entertainment, it's a murder-mystery game where you must solve a series of murders in the 16th century Bavarian Alps. Art inspired by the earliest printed books and manuscripts is what gives the game its unique look, and you can play it now on PS5, PS4 for £15.99 / $19.99.
You play as Andreas Maler, an illustrator turned detective for the town of Tassing and its Kiersau Abbey. "Players will be responsible for conducting their own investigation to decide the fate of the community, but each decision will have lasting consequences and inexorably draws Andreas closer to the center of an underlying conspiracy." Your choices will play out across multiple generations, dramatically affecting the community's future.
The game released to critical acclaim in late 2022, managing a Metacritic rating of 86 across 60 verdicts. Eurogamer called it a "a brilliant narrative adventure that is filled with intelligence and heart" while sister site Pure Xbox awarded it a 9/10 and concluded: "It may be the fabulous art style that first draws you to this one, and it really is quite the looker, but it's actually the very obvious care that's been poured into the narrative and the exacting detail in every aspect of the world-building here that ends up selling the whole thing so well."
Alongside today's digital edition releasing on the PS Store, a physical version is up for pre-order at Limited Run Games. Will you be picking Pentiment up today? Solve the murders in the comments below.

Will be picking this and Hi Fi rush up for sure at launch. Phenomenal games.

@Triumph741 Lack of voice acting is somehow a dealbreaker?
Decent price I was expecting to pay more. Wonder what Hi-Fi will cost. £60 seems too high, £16 seems too low.
@LordAinsley I’m assuming the same price it costed when it had released on PC and Xbox last year.
Really curious, does it have a "Xbox Game Studios" splash screen when it starts up?
@LordAinsley Hi-Fi Rush is $29.99/£27.99 on PS Store, the pre-order pages are live now. There's also a 10% discount if you're a Plus member.
The quickness at which these games have come out, like yeah testing the waters but no way are these the last of it.
@Quintumply thats really decent!
@BlaizeV Agreed. The fact they’re coming out literally now means this was all on the cards over a year ago.
We’re getting Starfield imminently.
Absolute bargain for my game of the year!

@DrClayman I can't see any reason why they wouldn't.
I might have to give this another go. I couldn't get into it when it first launched.
@DrClayman I haven't played it, but probably. Psychonauts 2 does.
@Bentleyma Ah cool, didn't know if that's allowed/happened before lol. Seems weird but always thought there was rules about not mentioning other consoles as part of compliance. Been playing ESO for ages as well and they never have added any mention of being an Xbox studio after the acquisition.
Just picked it up. Excited to play it. I hope it does well and leads to more Xbox games coming to PS5.
Trophies or cheevos?
@AverageGamer I think people tend to forget that people can actually purchase games on Xbox.
I'd argue that's Microsoft's fault for making it seem like Game Pass is the "only" way to get games on the console.
I need to get back into this game. It's a great little "gem".
Very nice, purchased and downloading right now.
@DrClayman MLB The Show has the PlayStation Studios logo when booting on Xbox. It was weird seeing it when I gave it a try.
Don't know. The game looks appealing, but I cannot take Eurogamer's opinion seriously, as well as Metacritic. If you guys wrote the review, that would be much appreciated.
Call me when The Outer Worlds 2 comes to PS5.
@GamingFan4Lyf Lmao. Probably. But I haven’t bought a game on Xbox in almost 10 years… And I still remember they provide game through other means than games pass 🤣
@colonelkilgore Trophies but due to a parity clause there is no platinum and the trophy score adds up to a 1000 rather than the usual ~1300
(Joke btw, put those pitchforks away. )
@LiamCroft Nice one Liam 👍
Okay i never give a ***** about this game before but after watching the embed video trailer,im might get it. Look nice though.
@LazyLombax Damn, I did not even think of that. Hell yeah.
It's a cracking game though no denying it is a niche title. I don't know how much variation there is between playthroughs as I only did one, but I certainly didn't see everything.
Damn thats an expensive price tag for this.
Sound like a quick plat ... once it's on ps plus extra.
Surprisingly is very well priced, I just bought it! I will continue to buy all the Xbox games they bring over as long as they aren't complete garbage (looking at you Redfall 👀)
A murder mystery like, say, The Name of the Rose, but set in a different location, a couple hundred years more recent, and the protagonist isn’t a monk…so, hmm, well, they’re both murder mysteries. 🤣 This definitely looks interesting. I’m sure this was already in development when Microsoft bought the company, so it’ll be interesting to see if first party XBox games like this one will continue to release in, say, a year or two when it’s clearer that Microsoft was actually in charge and greenlit the port to a Sony system.
Obviously Starfield and Indiana Jones are coming to PS5. The purpose of the multiplatform support isn’t to nickel and dime revenue off of smaller games, it’s to offset GamePass costs by generating sales on other consoles.
Honestly, Phil handled it brilliantly! The scripted moderator question on what the four games would be, specifically limiting it to those four, allowed Phil to come out and say "They are not Starfield or Indiana Jones."
Brilliant!
Next day headlines were “Starfield and Indiana Jones Remain Xbox Exclusives” and the Xbox faithful let out a deep sigh in relief. Sure, some Xbox games would be released, but they’d just be small, old games. Well, those small, old games will all be released by April, well before Starfield’s Shattered Space dlc and Indiana Jones even release.
So Phil kept his word. The four games weren’t Starfield or Indiana Jones. Now let’s see if the rumors were true that the PS5 port of Starfield would come after after Shattered Space and the Indiana Jones exclusivity would be relatively short. The rumors were pretty spot on, so I’m thinking both (and more) will happen.
I will indeed be buying this today. Although I just started Gnosia and guessed who gnosia was so I think il finish that first. After that though it's Pentiment time for sure.
*Obsidian’s Pentiment
I bought it to support Obsidian cuz those boys make good *****.
I won’t be playing Pentiment anytime soon, but I bought it today to support the move by Microsoft putting games on PlayStation. I do honestly feel that Microsoft should have gone with a bigger game today, not saying Pentiment is bad, of course. Also, it was a bit hidden away on the store, I guess Microsoft didn’t want to pay for the advertising? 😅
I've decided to become a professional Pentiment player.
Xbox: see kids, we love to share our games unlike PlayStation.
Kids: Yeah big bad Sony!
PS: Ok ok just take this Uncharted Collection and go!
Xbox: it worked! 😄
Love the art style. The game gives me a Fable vibe.
Definitely thinking about it.
@Jayslow I’ve played a majority of those games and I highly recommend Grounded. It’s easily my favorite of the bunch.
Survival games are NOT my thing but It’s the best survival game I’ve ever played. I enjoyed the characters, voice acting, a legit story, the world, the sense of exploration that contributes to the upgrade system.
I beat 4 bosses of Hi-Fi rush and quit. It’s not for me. That took roughly 3-6 hours. I gave it a fair shake.
Grounded deserves way more attention and praise than it gets. It should have been huge.
I believe I heard there is another huge update coming for it in April and I’ll happily jump back in.
@Juanalf Red Fall after all its updates is easily a solid 7/10 at the worst.
@OmegaStriver sounds like we just have a vastly different taste in games...and that's just fine
@Bionic-Spencer I'm guessing there's a bit of time between a game releasing and it appearing the recommendation lists, even the new releases one, well most games, bigger ones prob get on them straight away.
Edit : nm me it is one the new releases section, I missed it first look
The speed at which they are dropping is telling. Everything coming to PS in the future and everything that can come to Switch will also. Can't go on a roughly 100 billion dollar spree in last place and not expect top brass and shareholder to tell team Xbox to do what needs to be done to make a profit. Xbox never speaks in "profits" only in "revenues" methinks they don't have a financial choice. Regardless of how solvent the company is collectively. You think Micro gives a ***** about gamers when their main revenue is Cloud tech, Windows and US DoD contracts?? Can't wait to play the Fable reboot on my PS5 lol
Might have to pick this up to support Microsoft games coming to PlayStation. Doesn't hurt that Obsidian's games are usually really good. I'll definitely be getting Hi-Fi Rush and Sea of Thieves as well.
@OmegaStriver is it worth playing now?
@Lyedecker nice Avi my man. Good to see something us older gamers will get a bit of a flashback from!
@Decimateh-xblz The only game I haven’t played of the 4 is Pentiment.
1) Grounded
2) Sea of Thieves
3) Hi-Fi
They are all worth playing. I’ve actively played Grounded on and off for the last year. I’m really looking forward to their next update. I would have LOVED it as a kid. Hell, I love it now.
@GamingFan4Lyf People probably know it but just don't want to pay. The most remarks i read are ill wait for when it arrives on the Gamepass.
@Flaming_Kaiser Words I hate to see.
Same with “I’ll wait until it goes to PS+”
@OmegaStriver I meant redfall pal 🤣😭😅knew it got bad press when came out thought I'd wait til it's fixed just wondered if it's worth giving a go now? hi fi rush is deffo worth playing and I don't even like rhythm games but it's good 😎 pentiments sot n grounded not really my type games I prefer other games and all the indie that come to gamepass tbh🙂
@Flaming_Kaiser surely there's not that many who say it 🤣😭although I have seen odd one. absolute mongs though those people if you wanna game just but it init sub to go for thr insane value n buy the big/main games that you want just unlucky if it does later lol. Some right games come to it last couple month resi2 N 3 remakes bloodstained I bought em day one though🤣but I'm not Gunna wait just incase 🤣🤣🤣
@Decimateh-xblz Redfall is a solid game to me. I haven’t beaten it yet due to that I play it co-op with my kids and only play it when they are in the mood for it, though I would be happy to play it by myself.
The 60fps and advanced controls options patch has improved the experience.
It definitely gives Far Cry vibes if you are into that franchise.
@OmegaStriver thanks for replying 🙂 IL check it out. Thought would be good but then the reviews etc dropped n thought nah IV got plenty to play IL wait til its fixed ☹️🤣
