Do you still yearn for that era of 32-bit survival horror titles like Resident Evil and Silent Hill? Are the current crop of interactive nasties not exactly your cup of coffee? Well, you may want to have a gander at Crow Country, an alarmingly accurate PS1-inspired outing by developer SFB Games. The best part? You can try a free demo on the PS Store right now, ahead of its 9th May release date.

“The year is 1990,” the blurb reads. “Edward Crow has disappeared. The owner of ‘Crow Country’ (a small theme park in the rural outskirts of Atlanta, Georgia), he has not been seen since he unexpectedly shut down his park two years ago. The silence is broken when a mysterious young woman named Mara Forest ventures into the heart of the abandoned theme park in order to find him.”

As you can see from the trailer, the gameplay involves solving puzzles in a Silent Hill-style environment with a Final Fantasy 7-inspired graphical flavour. One neat trick here is that the full game features an Exploration Mode, so you can progress through the story without having to deal with the combat elements, which look like they could potentially frustrate.
