Bandai Namco has unleashed raw gameplay footage for upcoming brawler Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero, and boy does it have potential. A true successor to the Budokai Tenkaichi games gives Dragon Ball FighterZ a run for its money in the visuals department, and it quite clearly captures the insane action of Dragon Ball.
The showcase confirms what we already assumed: this is a fully 3D arena-style fighter, complete with a colossal character roster (supposedly made up over 160 forms). It's full of super-fast combos, massive special attacks, and instantaneous teleports. Again, there's huge promise here.
What's more, the game's producer is on hand to explain specific mechanics — some of which are new, and some of which are an evolution of what the Tenkaichi titles started. It's also stated that some of the combat effects simply wouldn't be possible on last-gen consoles — which is why it's coming to PS5 and not PS4.
The showcase ends with a new trailer, which just so happens to confirm a bunch of playable characters — many of whom are taken from Dragon Ball Super.

I'm honestly shocked by how clean the graphics are. Game really is amazing, visually.
I’m just glad they finally got the Purple Comet Attack right
Great, the gazzilionth DBZ game. They all look and play the same.
When can us true fans expect an openworld DBZ with the quality of something like Dragons Dogma or Arkham or whatever.
And no Kakarot was low budget trash with PS2 flying gameplay
Sheesh, how do you even follow what's going on with this game?!
Fighting games are for the young, I guess!
The headline makes it sound like a bunch of characters in the game think the game is visually stunning.
This looks incredible. Tenkaichi 3 is one of my all-time favorite DB games, and this is looking like it'll deliver! I just hope there's an option to reduce the camera shake a little, as it seemed to jitter around alot during combos.
So Bamco's actually putting some budget behind this one then?
Just give me a release date, so I can preorder and contribute to the Toriyama estate. Man, I’ll miss that guy.
The game looks really good, basically what a Budokai Tenkaichi 4 should be.
If this has a Collector's Edition, I'm going for it.
I've always been a bigger fan of Budokai games than Budokai Tenkaichi but this looks great
@Specky MUH OPEN WORLD
It's pretty neat that they reused some of the old grunt lines from the old budokai games.
@Specky I couldn't care less for an open world dbz game. The one thing I do care for is a new story instead of retelling the story of Dragonball over and over again. FighterZ and XV have done something different at least but even XV2 manages to do the same thing all over again.
Looks fantastic! the particle effects and details actually look this gen, the people saying this is low budget trash didn't actually see the gameplay trailer. There's clearly allot of love being put into this, will be a day one purchase for me.
I read somewhere it’s online only so won’t be buying
Glad they confirmed some characters. I was worried that Goku wouldn’t be in it. He wasn’t featured enough in Dragon Ball FighterZ 😉
"A true successor to the Budokai Tenkaichi games"
That's because the Budokai Tenkaichi games are the Sparking games - they were renamed to Budokai Tenkaichi in the West due to Budokai 1-3's success. It's the same thing as with Yakuza and Like A Dragon.
I don't see how people can play through the same series a 1000 times . I love dbz and gt but dam it's the same episodes over and over. Dbz fighter was a warm welcome and differnt. No amount of graphics is going to make me play through the same story I know from start to finesh
Wow. The Ki power-up animations are amazing, especially the shirt ripple effects. Holy crap.
@Nepp67 @QuattroBajina
DBZ begs for it.
That your garbage Ubisoft games have ruined openworld games doesn't mean it doesn't have any potential.
What I'm pleading is a good game for once, which we never get. A good adventure game.
@Specky You'll probably never get a good open world game with the devs we have right now for dragonball games or even anime games in general. All I was wanting was a competitive fighting game for Dragonball and we finally got one with FighterZ and it turned out amazing. Until the developers decide to do anything other than retell the exact same story over and over again, an open world dragonball game does not sound like it has much potential.
@KillerBoy it wont be. You heard false information
@Specky lol true fans have been wanting this exact game for ages. Tho I do agree it would be nice to have a really good adventure game for the series, But wh o knows if we'll ever see something ike that. Closest thing so far would be that sandland game
@Pepsiman_100 just checked it wasn’t about online my bad, it was about it having no local split screen which was a bit strange for an areana title
