Dragon's Dogma 2 has been given a full rating by the ESRB (the USA's ratings board), confirming that the soon-to-release action RPG is rated 'Mature'. That's not surprising in the least, but it's the game's content description that may raise a few eyebrows, as it reveals some additional details that haven't yet been covered.
The summary begins: "This is an action role-playing game in which players assume the role of a former prisoner trying to recall their past and save the world from an evil dragon." It then describes the title's bloody action combat and cutscenes that depict gore.
But it's the next part that we weren't expecting: "Players' character can interact with sex workers, exchanging currency for services." It seems the Arisen's been inspired by Geralt's escapades in Novigrad.
Don't get your hopes up for full-on sex scenes, though. The summary continues: "A brief sequence depicts the player sitting on a bed with a prostitute (both wearing underwear), before the camera fades to black. One cutscene briefly depicts characters kissing and rolling around in bed (no nudity)."
Still, we're somewhat surprised that prostitution plays such a (relatively) prominent role in Dragon's Dogma 2. Of course, the original Dragon's Dogma is infamous for its romance system — which can see your character get with almost any NPC in the game, leading to some potentially strange outcomes — so we're interested in seeing how the sequel shakes things up.
Did you see this coming? Unwind with some company after a hard day's adventuring in the comments section below.

Going from Rebirth then straight into Dragons Dogma 2 is going to be pure gaming bliss.
Im waiting for the game that lets me charge the NPC's.
Fancy upgrading your armour but low on funds?
Not a problem.
Well hello there blacksmith. What can i get for 30 coins and an awkward cut scene?
Dragons Dogma: Dark Arisen
Dragons Dogma 2: D*** Arisen
From the tagline I was hoping the game had some “surprisingly sexual content.”
Now I realise it’s just regular “sexual content” that was surprising to the author.
It’s not 2024’s version of BG3’s bear sex news story then.
@Weebleman
lol...Im going to use that line on my spouse tonight and see how it goes...
There's been a lot of unfortunate gaming news lately but as far game releases themselves, credit to Namco, Sega, SquareEnix and Capcom. They've brought some serious heat this year.
@Gamer83
It seems that Asian game makers are hitting the end of their development cycles all at once.
Yeah. Though Capcom and Sega's RGG Studio have been on fire for years now going back to 2017.
Dragonbone rather than Dragonborne?
So what gives me caution is the little knowledge we have about Dragon's Dogma 2's story, different environments, NPCs and towns/cities. We've been spoiled with vocation spotlights and gameplay videos, but the game feels scarily thin on story and worldbuilding so far. Does anyone else have similar fears or did I miss something?
I feel reluctant to just beat big trolls, dragons and other fiends around the same forest/cliff situation for 50 + hours.
Loads of RPGs have prostitution, though it's usually WRPGs, admittedly. In Fallout 2 you could even be a pornstar - and get an STD, if I remember correctly.
Man this year is full of great japan (and korea) games, I think I'm gonna focus on unicorn overlord and ff7 rebirth first before playing this though.
I don't understand how sexual content still keeps raising eyebrows but not slaying and killing, especially if it's optional..
@jolteon23 No offense to the director himself but this is being worked on by the same person that worked on DMC 5 which is Hideaki Itsuno. So don't expect much of a good story or any here
Not surprised that much and not offended either. Doesn't sound too overt for a mature rated game.
I was traumatised in the first game when my romance interest turned out to be Symone, who's about 10 years old!
I have no problem with this at all. I’m just really looking forward for this to come out.
Don’t see that coming
But now I know I will
I never played the first one, but I do love a good RPG, so I may give this one a chance at some point. No, not because of the "surprisingly" sexual content.
@Nepp67 Ah yes, good point. Thanks, I wasn't aware of this! Makes sense they would solely market the gameplay then.
