Third-party estimates claim Sony's surprise PS5, PC hit Helldivers 2 has sold more than eight million copies, and across Europe at least, it's been announced as the region's best-selling game for February 2024. This is according to GSD data, which includes both physical and digital purchases. 56 per cent of sales were for the PC version, which has lit up Steam player charts over the past couple of weeks.
As GamesIndustry.biz notes, Helldivers 2 has been a rare occurrence in the retail space where sales have increased week on week. The shooter's second week on the market registered a 70 per cent boost in sales, and then the week after it increased by another three per cent. This has resulted in Helldivers 2 beating out EA Sports FC 24 and a new release in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth to be Europe's best-selling game.
Also, Skull and Bones managed to outsell Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, with the disappointing looter shooter performing 33 per cent worse than Gotham Knights across its first five weeks on the market. Below you will find the top 10 best-selling games for Europe in February 2024, taking into account both physical and digital sales.
European Sales Charts: February 2024
- Helldivers 2
- EA Sports FC 24
- Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
- Grand Theft Auto V
- Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3
- Red Dead Redemption 2
- Hogwarts Legacy
- It Takes Two
- Skull and Bones
- Need for Speed Heat

Fully deserves all the hype and praise it's getting, hopefully these strong sales can continue. Also nice to see FF7 ReBirth in third despite it being released on the last day of February.
It really feels like lower priced games are the wave for this year. With so much of the economy globally in a down turn I’ve been finding myself more interesting in completing the games I already have + lower priced games like HiFi Rush, I can’t see myself buying any more $70 or $60 games this year.
Considering Rebirth was launched on Feb 29, a third position is a HUGE milestone.
And yay for HellDivers! They deserve all the success.
Really well deserved for Helldivers 2. Got a lot of ''screen time'' in shows but most glossed over it due to the hate for live-service. Ironic the first one out the gate is a hit. FF7R doing good for one day in Feb.
These type of games live or die on whether they can start trending on social media. Even the wife nearly bought it after seeing a load of videos on TikTok, and she’s pretty much an exclusive Sims player these days. For kids it would be even more the case. Not saying it isn’t good necessarily, as far as repetitive digital hang out spaces go, but these type of things shouldn’t be taken as a favourable indicator by Sony that making a load of these type of games brings success.
Perhaps I’m not informed, but can someone with knowledge clarify why exactly we don’t calculate sales of both physical and digital across the board? I feel like with so much digital content these days, there’s no reason to not count it everywhere.
@spcspc aye, rebirth is great but the last boss really made me go “time to take a break to relax and be in the best head space for dragons dogma”. Helldivers is getting the break treatment too, but dang i love it. It’s just a fun game. While people can be kinda obnoxious, the game is what all games should be: fun. Arrowhead understand this and they also know how to appreciate success, and their diligence with ironing out issues speaks volumes. Well deserved.
Pushsquare -
Perhaps now you should write an article about how Rebirth managed to be the 3rd most sold game in Europe even though it was released in the last day of February?
All you guys have written about the game thus far has been doom&gloom.
Those my two cents!
@DeathlySW
I hear ya! I actually have zero understanding of how the tabulations work, but most likely it is a combo of the company reporting and their workflow + how often the distributors & publishers report, their limitations, etc?
Helldivers, with its budget and expectations, doing this well is tremendous. People throwing shade on PushSquare about Rebirth seem premature. March will show more how that game did. It is not PushSquare’s fault the game launched the last day of the month.
In any event, Rebirth needs to sell a ton with its development cost and advertising budget. It selling HD2 numbers is a necessity and not exceptional. They probably spent more on the face modeling and facial movement in Rebirth than HD2 had for its entire game.

Am I crazy or do I see freaking 2019’s decent Need for Speed Heat sitting at #10 in 2024 lol
I have to hand it to Helldivers 2, it’s a fantastic game.
The best part? I get to play it with both my brothers.
We are all in our 30s now. Haven’t all played the same game for a long time. Now we are on voice chat in the madness of bugs and explosions, laughing and having fun. Wonderful stuff.
@GKT Yeah what is up with Need for Speed Heat being in there. Was it heavily discounted or something?
@Kienda all in your 30's? You lucky buggers I'm in my 50's lol.
@Konks I am referring to the "under performance" highlighted by PushSquare in several articles about the game since Rebirth launched. I completely agree with you March will be a great month to see how the game truly performs, but PSquare shouldn't jump to conclusions either.
Need for Speed Heat, a 5-year-old racing game, is in the top 10?!? Guessing there must have been a deep sale on it on the European store.
@GuttyYZ @awp69 I did some searching and apparently it was 95% off on steam last month...and still is lol. $3.49 for the deluxe edition. Still random as hell seeing it on this list lol
