Sony's official update on additions to PS Plus Extra and Premium usually arrive a couple of weeks into a given month, but it looks like one of April's retro classics has already been discovered. Fans of rail shooters, John Williams, or both, prepare yourselves — Star Wars: Rebel Assault II: The Hidden Empire looks set to join the classics catalogue soon.
As spotted by the ever observant Gematsu, PS Store pages for the PS1 game are on the backend, because they've appeared on PS Deals — a site that tracks prices and much more on every game on Sony's digital shop. In short, Rebel Assault II is all but confirmed — especially as those game pages list a 16th April release date. This is likely to line up with the PS Plus Extra/Premium update.
In case you don't know, this is an old LucasArts shooter that combines FMV footage with CG backdrops and keyed-in characters. Each level is on-rails, with most of them having you pilot an iconic Star Wars vehicle. If you're in the mood to blast away some stormtroopers as the iconic music swells (but with the hardware limitations of 1996), you'll soon be in luck.

Add Dark Forces then we’ll chat.
I still have the old big box pc version. We could never get passed the speeder bike section when we were kids.
It's a classic, but I'm happy to leave this one with my nostalgia.
I loved the first Revel Assault on PC as a kid. I never even knew they made a sequel, nonetheless ported it to console. I may check this out.
@JimmyRiddle It literally got remade like two weeks ago. Would be a move to put it on PS Plus!
No more star wars unless u get knights of old republic games on Playstation
Wonder if they’ll ever re-add kill zone 2 and 3
Nice another classic SW game to add to my collection. Hopefully the PSP version of The Force Unleashed is added at some point as it is in my opinion the best version despite the visual downgrade.
@Rmg0731 I'm curious as to why KOTOR 1/2 aren't on PS4/5 considering the Switch has them.
@DennisReynolds i want to say xbox has some kind of control over the originals?
Yeah, I would call this game 'old' but I wouldn't call it a 'classic'. Even playing the PC version at a friend's at the time it became apparent to me very quickly that this was basically a tech demo for CD-ROM more than it was a game. The actual gameplay was pretty dreadful.
When they add Brave Fencer Musashi they’ll have my money, until then, I’m good.
@Rmg0731 I have wondered that.
I adored this game when I was a kid. Then my dad lent it to his friend and he lost the second disc. Heartbreak. Looking forward to the nostalgia trip!
Wish we could get some actual PS1 & PS2 Classics....eg: There's some Psygnosis ones like the Colony War series,or the Adventures of Lomax,Alundra...third party stuff like Dino Crisis 1 & 2,RE2 & 3 Classic, Blood Omen Legacy of Kain or the original Rayman...PS2 games like Maximo Quest for Glory & Army of Zin, the SSX series,NFS Underground 1 & 2, GTA LCS & VCS, Splinter Cell series,Ratchet & Clank, Sly Raccoon,or the OG GOW 1 & 2 just to throw a few suggestions out there!
If Disney want to offer up something good how about the PS3 locked Secret of Monkey Island 1 & 2 Enhanced editions! Thank goodness i rebought them on GOG Store for PC!
Man I don't understand why these 3rd party games aren't getting trophy support. Seeing as now we know it's a separate company that's emulating these games and not the original publishers.
@Chaudy Love to see Killzone 1 return as well.
Wonder if this will be available to buy?
The first Rebel Assault was my first game ever on CD-ROM. Crappy gameplay, but was a dream.
Remember spending a weekend at my friend's playing this, though the fmv gimmick wore off really fast. The only way I'd enjoy this these days would be emulated with quick save/load for all these annoying qte's or just watching it on YouTube.
May as well just release a Mega CD on rails shooter collection at this rate...
Bit of Sewer Shark and Cobra Command would dust off some old memories..
@BookhouseBoy I hope so. With it being Star Wars after tax expecting £9.99
@SgtTruth Rigth!! On the other side X-Wing had a fantastic gameplay and spent dozens of hours on it. Good old times...
@SgtTruth same here! Bought a CD-ROM drive for this game as it was the first Star Wars game that had the actual music the same quality as the film!
I remember pre-ordering the sequel, playing it after school the day it came out and finishing it in a few hours. It was fun but disappointing.
