At this point, the success of Helldivers 2 is staggering. The co-op-focused shooter topped the PS Store sales charts for February in both North America and Europe. Of course, it did have most of the month to secure the number one spot — releasing on the 8th — but it's still an impressive result for a game that seems to be utterly thriving through positive word of mouth.
So popular is Helldivers 2 that even Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth couldn't jump it. The highly anticipated sequel to Final Fantasy 7 Remake launched right at the end of February, but it still managed to make second in North America and Europe.
As for February's other new releases, Skull and Bones sailed into eighth in North America, and seventh in Europe — not a bad result considering the air of negativity that's surrounded the game, at least online.
Meanwhile, Persona 3 Reload just scraped the top ten in North America, settling for ninth place, but it only barely made the top 20 in Europe, where it ended up in 18th. We honestly expected better, but it is a full price remake of a relatively niche title, and it's obviously available through Game Pass on other platforms.
Okay, so what about Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League? Well, the live service shooter — which publisher Warner Bros has expressed disappointment over, sales-wise — claimed the third spot in North America, and the eighth spot in Europe. It actually did decently, then. You can check out the full sales charts here.

It's gonna do what Hogwarts Legacy did last year and become the surprise best selling game of the year.
@GZoo nahhh, I don't think its as appetizing to as much people as Harry Potter is. Parents would buy that for their kids, they'd be hesitant to get Helldivers for kids
So I played down HD2 being ‘only’ 28% under the aligned Spider-man 2 sales earlier… this though 🤯
@GZoo would be awesome to see it make the top 10.
@Professor_Niggle if they keep adding new and fun stuff to it, as well as the much earlier release date then it should have legs.
@GeminiReign living rent free
Interesting about Persona sales.
I don't know about other people, but I sort of refuse on principle to buy a game that's made available day one on Game Pass. And in the case of P3R, it doesn't help that they're also trying to suck more money out of their customers' wallets with expensive DLC that should have been included from day one.
I don’t get why GTA5 is always in the charts. Surely everyone on earth has bought it by now
I'm glad this is good news for Rebirth seeing as it didn't release until the 29th and Helldivers seems to be a smash hit. They are both great games so they deserve it.
I think the constant rerelease of games (that don't even transfer saves for moving from one console to another) is catching up with Persona. I would have bought a collector's edition of P3 if I knew it was the last release. when they release the full edition I'll buy the CE.
Weird you didn’t show the full chart. Push Square are so odd when it comes to any formatting or embedding other than blocks of text.
Persona 3 seems to be out of stock, in all the town stores at least. I suspect it would be higher if it was more available.
Edit : oh these are digital sales? I can't explain that then. Except RPG fans are possibly more inclined to buy physical than other genres.
@Ralizah It doesn't necessarily stop me from buying it, but I am skeptical because companies that put their games on gamepass day 1 usually means that the devs don't have much faith in their game being successful or good for that matter.
Another thing to keep in mind with Persona 3 is that it also launched in between Infinite Wealth and of course FF7 Rebirth. I have a copy but I haven't played it yet because by the time I finished Infinite Wealth, Rebirth was coming right up so that could also have played a part of it.
Rebirth deserves reFIRST. I’m sorry
This isn't much of a news story. Helldivers II has been the biggest game of the month and launched at the beginning of February. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth launched on the last day of February (and one one less platform) so not really a fair comparison. Glad both games are doing well.
Congrats to Helldivers 2 and FF7 Rebirth for their success. And congrats to the playstation store for having playstation exclusives at the top of the charts.
@GeminiReign Unfortunately for them HellDivers 2 will be making news for months to come.
And with its $40 tag it's pretty clear Helldivers didn't cost 1/4 billion dollars so Sony could learn a thing of two about smaller games.
Also for the people who thought Persona was going to make the most money because of its popularity and "it wasn't that expensive to make" the final answer was no and no, it's popular but not THAT popular and a beautiful game like Persona of course was expensive.
@Kiefer-Sutherland There’s a few of reasons I can think of.
First, there are new people being born all the time, and those people all turn 17 at some point (or whatever age their parents feel they’re old enough to play it).
Second, GTA is a legendary series, and it’s probably the first game someone buying a new console would buy with it.
The main reason though, is Shark Cards, the premium currency for GTA Online. Buying a copy of the game bundled with a Shark Card is usually cheaper than buying Shark Cards on their own, so people just buy the game again to get them. This is probably done intentionally by RockStar to inflate their numbers and stay up in the best seller charts artificially.
Persona 3 being on gamepass won't effect playstation store sales, the fact it's so low either shows people are annoyed with Atlus's scummy practices and are waiting for the full package, or people are just expecting too much just because P5 was a beast of a game and it's high sales were a one off.
Nice seeing the Tomb Raider 1-3 collection so high up in Europe, people are being reminded of how amazing the PS1 era was for Playstation.
Yeah I think persona 3 struggled coz a few people avoided buying it at launch. I will pick it up on a big sale bundled with all dlc.
In keeping with the tradition of most of my fellow Americans over here being morons, Suicide Squad is 3rd.
@gymratAmarillo that's lighting in a bottle. Remember, the last game didn't sell lifetime as much as this one did in a week or so. Sony can't rely on that. You can't just replicate it.
I think releasing so close to Rebirth didn’t do P3R any favor ether, but I am sure it will have legs. Congrats to Sony for having successfully launched two exclusives in a row.
Persona 3 did not struggle, it sold 1M units in its first week. That’s very good for the series. It’s still way ahead of SMTV which sold 800k in its first year and 1.1M 12 months later.
@GZoo oh I'm not saying it won't have legs but best selling game of 2024? No.
It will do really well though, as it has been doing. And with more features changing the scale and gameplay, it's only going to go higher and higher IMO
@Professor_Niggle Helldivers 2 could very realistically sell 20m units this year, in fact I'd expect it to get close quite easily.
I kind of can't believe nobody mentioned this yet, but people keep forgetting that P3 Reload launched merely a year after P3P Remastered. A huge amount of people that wanted to play P3 already played it last year when it was also a new release. I have no idea why they decided to remaster a game, then remake it the year after but that no doubt affects sales.
And even if you're considering P3R right now, you get to pay $70 for P3R, or you can pay $20 for P3P remastered, basically the same game, and also basically a new release. Or, on sale nearly half price on the US store right now, you can pay $22 to get P3P remastered and P4G Remastered. $22 for a set of two of the best JRPGs ever made or $70 for a somewhat prettier and QoL improved version of one of them + DLC to complete it.
P3R is kind of a hard sell and only for the truly devoted Atlus fans, or the truly uninitiated Atlus neophytes. I'm kind of surprised P3R is at #9 in NA TBH.
I bought P3P+P4G last year, but stopped playing P3PR when they announced P3R. I'm playing P3R now, but I'm playing on Game Pass. If I weren't I'd probably just stick to the OG considering I paid like $15 for it vs $70 and QoL and flashy GFX aside, I feel like I'm replaying the exact game over again I started last year.
Considering Sony Interactive Entertainment owns the HellDivers IP, and amid this huge success, I wouldn't be surprised if they tried to buy Arrowhead. Probably they are "cheaper" now that in the long run as the game continues expanding DEMOCRACY!
@Nepp67 I'd say plenty of actively good stuff is put on Game Pass. I never doubted the quality of Atlus' additions. Silksong, if it ever comes out, will be extremely high quality. We all expected Sea of Stars to be good. etc.
To me, it feels like a waste of money to pay for a game on a competing platform when it's also coming to GP day one. But I also usually don't want to play said game on GP, because then I have to stress about finishing it before my sub elapses. So I end up just avoiding the game at launch when I would otherwise have probably snagged it at full price. And once I'm out of the launch window, I wait for games to depreciate in value fully before buying in. In the meantime, I'm actively distracted by other games. So, I'll often end up waiting years before I even think about buying the game again.
@Kiefer-Sutherland "I don’t get why GTA5 is always in the charts. Surely everyone on earth has bought it by now."
It's almost as if well over 100 million humans are born each year, and so there's a neverending stream of people to buy things... 🤔
Funny to see Fore VR bowl at the top of the PSVR2 EU chart (didn't chart in US region).
I bought it, and I don't even own a PSVR2 (yet!).
@ChrisDeku based on what??? I'm sorry but I think that's absurd. Hope it happens tho
Congratulations to Arrowhead and Sony. PlayStation is on fire right now. So many great games are on the platform already and many more on the way.
@Professor_Niggle Based on publicly available Steam sales estimates and PS5 playerbase estimates and sampling,
Steam Sales Estimates:
Play tracker - 3.7M
Gamalytic - 6.4M
VG Insights - 7.4M
Steam sales are roughly 50% of worldwide sales so even the low end of the estimates would be in the ballpark of 7.4m across both formats in 4 weeks. like the article said, sales increased for three straight weeks(this was confirmed as the case in the USA too)and it’s still the number 1 global top seller on Steam right now. Sales are not suddenly going to fall of a cliff. Its overall sales curve is going to be much smoother than normal.
I could not understand the stats of skull and bones. It is definitely a flop and it does not have the fanbase of dc fans. However, its sales seem not so bad.
Anyone wish to hook up for Helldivers 2 atm? ... doing ok with strangers but it's not as much fun.
@GZoo My name is DeadOnFred
Remember yesterday when rebirth sales were a flop 😅
@NEStalgia Your completely right about Persona 3 vs the psp Persona, they are almost identical.
@Kiefer-Sutherland It's like Disney films before streaming, they sell consistently because they're are always more kids coming into the world. Every year more young people come of age and buy GTA. It's the only reason I can think of!
@ChrisDeku twenty million in a year would be amazing man. Let's see
It was 1 day lol
The fact that they finished 2nd for the month with only 1 day of downloads vs games that had the whole month is impressive to me
@Nepp67 So, you think that about every first party game? All of them go directly to Game Pass Lol
@Ralizah You sound just like me. So many games in my backlog. Anyone who says "there's no good games anymore" either live under a rock or are very picky.
@Lanmanna Im directing my comment more towards third party titles. Yakuza and Persona as examples.
