Baldur's Gate 3 team Larian Studios has confirmed it has two new games in the works as it looks to moves on from the Baldur's Gate IP. Having put together one of the greatest RPGs in a generation last year, the Belgian developer won't be making any new narrative content for the third iteration or creating a Baldur's Gate 4. Instead, it's two brand new games, which CEO Swen Vincke is calling the studio's "best work ever".
The news comes from a community update to Steam, where a seventh major patch for Baldur's Gate 3 is revealed. The update is looking to make dark endings even more evil, get official mod tools in place, and add some new customisation options. Crossplay support and a Photo Mode are also planned for the RPG.
At the bottom of the article, it's said that Larian Studios has decided to "develop our own IPs. We’re currently working on two new projects and we couldn’t be more excited about what the future has in store." While the games are still early in development, the developer says it's fuelled "by the very same fire in our bellies [as Baldur's Gate 3], one that drives us to create immersive experiences shaped by your choices, and we can’t wait for you to join us on this next adventure".
Swen Vincke himself then explains: "I don’t know if we’re going to pull it off, but looking at our narrative, visual and gameplay plans, I think what we’re working on now will be our best work ever. I get excited like a kid watching the key imagery, want to show it to everyone now and grumble in frustration at having to wait until it’s actually all working."
Larian Studios doesn't drop any hints as to what the two new games could be, but it's possible one of them could be a new entry in its Divinity: Original Sin series. Before the release of Baldur's Gate 3, Vincke said the team would "definitely" return to the series "at some point". The developer doesn't have any notable IPs to its name besides Divinity, so anything else would be a brand-new world.

In theory, every studio wants or proclaims their next game will be their "biggest yet" or "best game" to date. I give them the benefit of the doubt, but the proof, as they say, is in the pudding. I am excited for what they do next, as they opened the gates for me to CRPGs through BG3.
I hope bg3 receives a mod that let combats play out automatically (like in fire emblem) because they are too tedius for me. I completely fell off the game over this.
If this studio can work on two games at once, Bethesda should really be able to get Fallout 5 out before the 2032 U.S. election
@ErrantRob Yeah I'm really tired of that line being said over and over again.
A live service and a mobile gacha! Nooooo! (Just kidding)
A divinity 3 would be amazing.both divinity games are excellent.word up son
The love for Baldurs Gate 3 is getting a little over the top in my opinion. Great game but it’s all I’ve been hearing about for the past 6 months. I preferred Divinity 2 in some aspects so excited to see Larian are moving on now.
It's a racing game based on the Wacky Racers franchise but instead of driving your car you point and click on the track for movement and then roll dice to decide on the success of your overtaking or cornering.
EDIT: OMG I just discovered this exists as an actual board game. The deluxe edition even comes with fully detailed and painted models of the racers from the TV show.
As always I'll decide what a game is for ME, when it comes it out.
I'd love it to be Divinity Original Sin 3. I'd also love to see them do something in a new setting, perhaps a Si-FI game.
I kick-started DoS2, and was there day one with the Early Access version of BG3. I would expect Larian to release their next game in EA too, and I would happily get that day one as well.
Whatever Larian do next, I have absolute faith that it will be awesome...
Again a major patch that is significantly changing the game. When does Baldur's Gate 3 development will be complete? At that pace, they should have competed for GOTY 2024, because the last year version no longer exists...
I mean, BG3 is no Spiderman 2, so probably a good call to move on and produce something that isn't just the same ole, same ole thing that is just a wee bit more polished.
