36 years ago, all the way back in 1988, a side-scrolling action platformer called Beyond the Ice Palace released for ancient platforms like the Amiga, Atari ST, and Commodore 64. The game didn't really have much of an impact at the time, but that hasn't stopped developer Storybird Studio from making a sequel, almost four decades later.
That's right, Beyond the Ice Palace 2 is happening, and it looks great in its reveal trailer, which you can watch above. Taking clear inspiration from the Castlevania series, it's got some cool art direction and the animations are satisfyingly smooth. It's coming to PS5 "soon".
Are you up for a new action platformer? Dare we ask if you're at all familiar with the original Beyond the Ice Palace? Feel free to date yourself in the comments section below.

Loved the original on the C64.
But the original was more like a Ghost n Goblins game, not Castlevania.
Yessss… this looks great!
Hope it's not yet another rogue or souls-like.

Oh, man — this looks so good. The art, sound design, the music, combat, and setting seems incredible.
Curious that it's not crossplatform with PS4 considering the assets...
Wow this looks fantastic!
That looks cool, nice to know it's never too late to release a sequel.
Doesn't really seem to have much in common with the original. Which is probably for the best as it's very much of it's time.
Looks amazing! Does anyone know for sure if it’s actually a metroidvania? Really hoping it’s not a roguelike (ala Dead Cells)!
I have one suggestion for the developers to have adjustable difficulty levels like the new PoP not extra hard only mode like blasphemous!!!
