After Sony forced one-man developer Lilith Walther to rebrand their PC kart racer inspired by Bloodborne, the game has reappeared as Nightmare Kart. A new trailer can be viewed above, which confirms the title will release on PC platforms like Steam and Itch.io for free on 31st May 2024.
As the YouTube description points out, you can look forward to racing 20 different characters around 16 courses, and the best part is it's now all "legally distinct". You can choose to play through the campaign — which contains boss fights — or engage in a battle mode versus other players.
It was claimed Sony got in touch with Lilith Walther in January to request the rebrand, which was taken as something of a positive: "The idea of having full creative control is kind of exciting!"
Will you give Bloodborne Nightmare Kart a try on 31st May? Let us know in the comments below.

I would probably reach the Game Over screen before selecting the New Game option. Also, I hope Father Gas Can is a playable character.
A far better outcome than nuking the project outright. I’m glad Sony were able to recognise the hard work of the dev and reach an agreement. Still, this is one of the most brilliant and hilarious bits of fan promotion I’ve ever seen so I don’t know why Sony would have a bee in their bonnet about it, especially as it’s free.
A minor compromise all things considered. Hopefully it's just the character names that have changed and not the designs. This will be a hoot and a holla by the looks of it.
@DiggleDog It really is due to the trickiness of copyright law. They may not be worried about this project or dev, but allowing the IP to be used could open up difficulties with denying it elsewhere by more malicious parties, like a flood of fake Bloodborne games being sold on Steam to capitalise on the PC user base hunger, which in turn could cause massive reputational damage to the IP.
Ps3 Era sony would have reached out to fund the project and put it on playstation consoles.
Kind of a d*** move, sony should support its comunity more.
It is sometimes frustrating to see these genius-level video game fans who create these amazing looking games have years of work erased when they're inevitably hit with C&D letters.
Glad she was able to rebrand and re-release this. Sony should help fund a port to the PS5.
At least the project got Sony blessing. Not like other fan project that got nuked
Can't get over how good Nicholas is as a legally distinct version of Micolash.
Do the names just have different spellings now or how different is it?
@LordOfTurnips then more and more would do it and there would be an uproar when Sony didn't support even one of these games. It's a slippery slope.
Honestly glad Sony only asked the dev to rename the game and not just a complete shutdown of the project.
Nice texture wobble. Always loved it. Makes the games somewhat look alive
Gotta hand it to Sony for not completely demolishing this fan project. It's understandable considering Bloodborne is still their trademark. Nintendo would have nuked this the moment it goes public
