Capcom has shared a list of patch notes for a Dragon's Dogma 2 PS5 update that'll drop at some point later this month, and chief among them is news the game's dragonsplague mechanic will be reduced in frequency and made much more easily noticeable. The patch notes confirm the infection will be spread at a slower rate and your Pawns' eyes will glow a lot more, making the disease a lot easier to deal with.
Dragonsplague infects your Pawns by fighting dragons in the game, with the Pawns you already have contracting the disease during a battle or already having it when you recruit them. You can tell they have dragonsplague through their glowing eyes and increasing inability to follow your orders. If you allow the infection to take hold, your Pawn will turn into a dragon and they can destroy entire villages of important NPCs while you sleep.
It doesn't sound like the consequences of the plague are changing, but now it'll be a lot easier to spot before things get too out of hand. You can get rid of the infection by either dismissing your Pawn or killing them.
Elsewhere, the patch notes also confirm Pawn behaviour and dialogue will be changed. They'll be less likely to fall off cliffs, their dialogue will better suit your circumstances, and they'll be more likely to help you when being held by foes, among other things. Then, some fixes will be applied to the mini-map and you'll be able to zoom in on your Arisen and Pawns' faces in certain menus.

Boo!
One thing I wanted to experience before hanging up the game for good is some proper dragons plague, and I've barely seen a sniff of it as it is.
I think one time a pawn was being properly arsey and I sent them away, and the only other instance was with @apostatemage pawn and another random one, but they both fell into a ravine on top of a cyclops at the same time, so that got instantly wiped out of the party and it never developed into anything interesting š
No longer leaving your Pawns hanging on a high five is the biggest fix.
Walking across a rock slab, 2 death alarms go off. Seriously, Iāve seen pawns jump off cliffs and completely miss the landing.
Also can we fix the pawns getting stuck on everything? Walls, supports, rocks, hell even seen them stuck on nothing.
The best is them getting stuck on being unable to help in this quest, repeating it continuously. Gave my pawn the silence specialization. A real thing amazingly.
I'm sure the guy I sold this game to will enjoy this
Kind of a shame the game doesn't make you kill your Pawn to stop the spread.
I understand it's a video game and goes by video logic, but it would be pretty awesome if "dismissing" the Pawn with the disease causes random chaos nearby - since, you know...an infected person is literally just roaming the wild.
I have to echo everyone's sentiments here. The plague is an interesting idea the should be further developed, not cut back on.
Also reducing pawn dialogue should be an option, not a fix. I like my pawns chatty, it gives them personality.
Are they gonna reduce the frequency of pawns references to ladders?!? š Re dragonsplague - fortunately I havenāt seen it yet in my game. Can it affect your main pawn? Or just hired pawns?
Frustrating that theyāre removing the dangers of a cool mechanic like this instead of fixing performance issues. Glad weāve got plenty of good games the next couple months, just hope Capcom doesnāt give this game the Dead Island 2 treatment.
@Loamy my first playthrough I barely saw it however
In ng+ I had it constantly it was more annoying that anything
My pawn once had red glowing eyes and kept clutching her head. I wanted to see what happened but it was killing me that she wasn't herself so in the Brine she went.
Yes finally! I no longer have to swerve them if I see them coming up the road š
dumbing down feature because of a vocal minority shouldn't happen.
i'm on my 3rd playthrough and haven't encountered dragonsplague yet (had the tutorial pop up though) .
I still haven't encountered this so that's unfortunate that it is being nerfed. :/
Although if there is one good change that is the frequency reduction on pawns asking to be hired, that crap was annoying when exploring.
Empty chests no longer appear on the mini map, finally
Please patch the performance capcom I'm begging you
I've just started Dragons Dogma 1 on PC (runs very well at 4k/60fps) and OMG what an amazing game.
I'm looking forward to playing Dragons Dogma 2 in about 5 years when it runs properly.
Spoiler alert! Would have been nice.
Noooooo! Granted I only really got it when it was scripted. If you just pay attention itās super obvious when pawns have it. Granted I am on my 3rd playthrough so I donāt care too much.
I got it once during the endgame when I hired a pawn so immediately dismissed my 2 hired pawns. I took a chance on my main pawn though. There's a chance I finished the game with an infected pawn
@SgtTruth same
I never noticed the plague ever being that bad. If I did things correctly, if my pawn's misbehaved and their eyes went red, I just got their HP to zero by throwing them off a ledge and reviving them. Seemed to fix any bad plague related behaviour
Looking forward to it being nerfed personally.
It's not hard to avoid once you know about it, but I can't see a single positive it brings to the game.
Just tedious busy work monitoring pawns to avoid a cutscene and then having to waste a load of wakestones or an eternal wakestone. Nothing about it was fun.
Any news on "we come around to optimise our code and increase FPS" update yet? That's the only thing keeping me from buying the game.
@Nightcrawler71 any pawn can get it. The rate supposedly goes up if you fight dragons or your pawn gets controlled by one. That being said you can sleep at camps and pass it to another pawn in your party or of course dismiss the infected pawn. The progression is super obvious (they get arrogant and combative, sit down during idle and bicker with the party, they ignore commands and eventually their eyes glow red) but if you make it to the post dragon aspect of the game it is scripted that all pawns get it to push the urgency of the end game. But honestly if you play well you donāt need to sleep much during that time so there is usually no impact. Itās really there to keep you invested/paying attention and to keep folks from camping on pawns (granted I never got to the point where the infection was dangerous). Personally i think there should be more consequences but thatās just me.
Seems reasonable. After all, it would be pretty easy to see someone with glowing eyes in reality. The idea that, previously, it could happen yet the player be totally unaware just seems strange. Being more noticeable logically means it wouldnāt spread as muchā¦
Then again, Iāve not played the game. Maybe itās already a rarity.
To me the idea of important NPCs dying is something that would just annoy me and make me feel like I was missing out.
Again though, not played it, maybe anything important would just move to a different NPC.
@Ryu_Niiyama good to know, thanks š Iāve fought 2 dragons so far, one in Melve and another somewhere else. Both times the dragons buggered off halfway through the encounter!
