Sony has today announced that Animal Well, a picturesque, pixelated platformer, will be joining PS Plus Extra the same day it launches on PS5. From 9th May, 2024, you'll be able to check out this curious title as part of your subscription.
In case you're unaware, Animal Well casts you as a small character that finds themselves in the confines of a strange, mysterious, underground world. It's your job to explore it, Metroidvania style, finding new items and abilities as you try to piece together the otherworldly goings on in this network of caves. The well is filled with various animals, and you won't know whether they're friends or foes until you interact with them.
Interestingly, this is the third game in quick succession that'll be joining PS Plus Extra on day one. Dave the Diver and Tales of Kenzera: ZAU are also part of the service the moment they launch. It seems Sony is perhaps aiming to do more day one PS Plus launches this year.
We've loved the look of Animal Well since we first saw it, so this is a win in our book. Will you be checking it out as part of PS Plus Extra when it arrives in early May? Let us know in the comments section below.

Gorgeous? I think my ZX Spectrum had better looking games. To each their own though.
Oh yes, I had this on my radar, though i'd prefer something like this on a mobile platform.
Not sure if there's a connection between devs saying the Gamepass money has dried up and Sony suddenly going harder on day one PS Plus releases but I'm all for it.
Nice! These Day 1s are definitely getting me more interested in Plus as a service. I’m contemplating subbing for Gamepass again this month if Harold Halibut reviews well, but so far, for the year, it looks like Plus is beating Gamepass for me. It might not have the huge first party games coming Day 1, but honestly Gamepass has been so sparse and patchy with the quality of them that I’m appreciating these smaller titles more. I may keep my sub after all!
Pretty good get for Plus.
@KingDazzar my words!
i dont understand this retro obsession with ugly 8bit graphic
This always looked interesting to me, hope I find the time to check it out
And to think Dunkey could have published Knack 2 HD instead of this. Shame.
@KingDazzar
Glad you said it first haha. From the first time I saw this game, it looked kind of ugly to me.
