They say that no news is good news, but in the case of the carbonite-encased Knights of the Old Republic remake, apparently languishing in development hell, we'll take whatever scraps we can get. Now an independent entity free from the imploding Embracer Group, developer Saber Interactive's CEO, Matthew Karch, has acknowledged the project, albeit briefly.
Speaking to IGN, Karch confirmed that Saber got the game in the split and remains in active development, and seemed quite exasperated by the question: "It's clear, and it's obvious that we're working on this. It's been in the press numerous times. What I will say is that the game is alive and well, and we're dedicated to making sure we exceed consumer expectations."
As consumers, we love it when our expectations are exceeded, and we desperately hope that will be the case with the KOTOR remake whenever it finally sees the light of day. Considering the chaotic corporate environment in which it has existed, it's hard to get a clear picture, but it sounds like the game is still a fair way out; even expecting it to release in 2025 might be too optimistic.
When do you expect to see the KOTOR remake, and what are the chances it lives up to fans' expectations? Let us know in the comments section below.

I was excited by the reveal, but I can't see myself playing this unless it has a fresh combat system and new storylines. I've been pretty busy with this year's releases (HD2, 7R2, DD2) and next year figures to be busier
Pointless to guess the release date at this point. I just hope it DOES release at SOME point.
Consider for a moment all the rumors have been inaccurate. It would be so odd to be a dev working on this project and having the Internet gossip about the cancellation of what is consuming years of your life
At this point, who cares?
I have some fond memories of playing the original on PC.
I had such a potato of a PC back then (end of 2003), I actually had to disable the cutscenes to play the game, and from Taris onwards, I had disable grass as well, that's how bad my PC was.
I still loved the game, and I'm really hoping this remake sees the light of day in the future.
It'll probably be a cross gen release for the ps6 when it releases.
Why can't they just port the original to ps5 to make the wait bearable? If it runs on the switch, the ps5 should run it better.
Why should I stop caring just because production is troubled? I hope this comes together because Kotor is one of the best star wars legacy stories.
Fitting title for a game that is being threated as if someone kidnapped it and is asking for a ransom.
@zhoont but it did change developers though.
I honestly think they should just can it at this point. Games that go through this kind of development hell rarely turn out good and I don't really trust them to get this right
Yeah right and Beyond good and Evil 2 is right around the corner also right? 😉
Great news! Let's hope it goes all the way to release.
What will come out first: KOTOR remake or Abandoned?
The game is so old it will need to be remade along the same lines as FFVII only with next to none of the budget or talent.
People need to watch out their expectations. This is not a AAA developer. Don't think this will be coming out in PS6 cross gen with insane graphics.
This will be an AA remake in the vein of say Alone in the Dark.
Let them cook
Great News! Hopefully if Sony has a showcase in May they show us more of this game just to put everyone's minds at ease.
What are fans expectations? I was just expecting a better graphic version of the original, but considering all the trouble this game seems to be having, I assume the developers vision is far grander.
I'll believe it when I see it.
