To no one's surprise, work is already underway on the next Like a Dragon game, with developer RGG Studio announcing that it's in the process of hosting character auditions. The team goes on to confirm that the next title is not Kiwami 3 — a remake of Yakuza 3, which originally released for the PS3 all the way back in 2009.
However, Kiwami 3 is happening at some point, according to series director Masayoshi Yokoyama. "I’m just going to say, I think we’ll do a Kiwami 3 at some point. I think we’ll definitely do it sooner or later," he commented, during RGG Studio's most recent video.
Yakuza 3 was a great game back in the day — and it likely introduced a lot of people to the franchise — but the property has come a long way since, and much of it feels incredibly old and clunky by today's standards. We're well up for a full, Kiwami 2-style remake.

Like A Dragon Kenzan maybe?? Either way I’m so hyped!😁😁😁😁
Kenzan first and maybe Dead Souls as well and then maybe we can move onto Kiwami 3 as long as we still get new games coming.
3 is my least favorite of the main series (though I still enjoyed it). I'd be interested to see what a Kiwami version of it could be like. I'm hoping for a Judgment 3 announcement next from RGG though!
My dream would be a spin off based on Lone Wolf and Cub, with Kiryu as Ogami Itto roaming through feudal Japan with Daigoro in his baby cart.
I had a feeling that Infinite Wealth would be more TLOU2 with a certain protagonist but it turned out to be something much more deeper and enlightening to go through. All the characters are wonderful in their own ways and the chapter where you go meet up with a certain group of individuals was visually stunning to me. I won’t say the games one of the best as the better games had a consistency with the storytelling. It did however really showcase the strength these characters all have with one another and I adore games that bring that care and attention to a game.
Also, Kiryu and Seonhee are meant to be together
Fully burnt out on the series now, too many remakes and new entries in recent years. Don't think I'll be playing one for a while now unless there's a serious departure
It’s not like I wouldn’t play it, but the remaster is fine. I think they should just focus on going forward at this point.
This real? I know it’s April Fools day so I ain’t trusting nothing. 😂
I hope it’s a Judgment game
Kenzan should be the next game especially after Ishin! got an excellent remake. There are also a few more Japan-only titles that need to make the jump.
I'm playing Yakuza 3 currently. Is clearly more dated than than Zero and the 2 Kiwamis, but it's good nonetheless. I think they should focus in the ones that never came to the wers. Remake the PSP one, Black Panther, and Kenzan, for instance.
Ngl, Yakuza 3 is the only Like A Dragon game I’ve ever played and beaten…. And despite not knowing what was going on in the beginning since I never played 1 and 2…. It was one of the best PS3 games I’ve ever played and even shed some tears when one of my favorite characters died 🥲🥲🥲
No thanks. Finished and got the plat for 3 (dodgy controls and timing in minigames and all). No interest to play it all again. Will be good for newcomers to the franchise though as 3,4, and 5 are showing their age even in the remakes (and 5 is the best of the lot).
I need that Kiryu clousure RRG.
Had enough Ryu ga gotoku for a lifetime
Judgment 3 please
I love these games, I would like a remake of Dead Souls
Remake Black Panther (from the PSP) first! While 3 is one of my least favorites, it is still a great game, so it would be cool to see a Kiwami treatment.
I would like a new like a dragon with someone new as main character, not another old man haha. Ichiban and kiryu are old, so maybe give the lead to a younger character.
But if 3 got a remake, I'd play that again.
Dead Souls please. With 3 already being on PS4, a remake seems unnecessary.
Wait I'm playing through Yakuza sort of.
I've finished Zero and Kiwami 1. Wanted to start Kiwami 2 soon.
Does this mean I should take it slowly, because this sounds they're going to Kiwami all of them...
I'm just finishing Yakuza 3 now after many hours of gameplay, so if they announce a remake anytime soon, I will cry real tears
Yakuza 3 was my jumping in point for the series and i remember vividly visiting Japan when it was released and it being EVERYWHERE. Remains one of my favourite titles in the series personally
I literally finished Yakuza 3 five minutes ago.
Yakuza: Like a Father Simulator.
Kiryu dad of the year for sure 😂
Finally got into this series after a few efforts to get into it ..loved infinite wealth and got all the achievements on Xbox for it ....just now downloaded Yakuza 0 to play and also bought both Judgement games
Take my money!
Keep them coming. I'll never tire of this franchise. Just hopefully only 1 playthrough for the platinum this time 🤣
Yakuza 3 is my least favourite game in the series but only because it's a chore to play. I like the story and the characters and the setting and basically everything but the combat drives me up the wall. A remake would probably be one of my favourite games in the series.
@Specky I’m right there with you. Finished 0, Kiwami 1, and Judgement recently. 2 and 3 are next on my list but I’d rather play a Kiwami 3. Don’t think I’m willing to wait as long as it’ll take though.
I'd be fine with more of Ichiban and the gang.
3 really does need a remake to make a complete bookend series. It's a great game but hasn't aged wonderfully. But can we get a Kiwami of 5&6 that makes Haruka not an idiot?
@Doctor_BK
Kiwami 2 looks stellar though, so that should keep you busy for a while.
I'm gonna take it slow and maybe play the non-Yakuza installments here and there untill they release
@Specky yeah I plan on playing those as well including Fist of the North Star which looks awesome. HappyConsoleGaming has a great review
@LordAinsley The last remake in the mainline series wasn't since like 2017 though.
@Specky Kiwami 2 is an huge upgrade from Yakuza 0 and Yakuza Kiwami, graphics and engine wise. It's honestly the game, that changed the series in my opinion. Hope you enjoy it.
