A rumour is currently doing the rounds, suggesting that we could learn more about 2K's plans for the Mafia series' future (or perhaps past) in the days ahead. A new game was confirmed to be in development back in 2022, potentially a prequel, and we've heard virtually nothing since. But the source says the reveal could just as easily involve a next-gen update for Mafia: Definitive Edition, so we'll have to wait and see.
"Video game researcher" Kurakasis made the claim on Twitter (thanks, VGC), whose prodding this year alone revealed the title of Amy Hennig's new game, Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra, amongst other discoveries. According to Kurakasis, judging by the amount of time it took to spin up the recent Judas trailer (which Kurakasis also predicted), we should learn more in the coming weeks.
What would you hope to see, a new entry in the Mafia series or a PS5 update with all the bells and whistles? Let us know in the comments section below.

A next gen update would be great.
The messed up the original Mafia remake. Lets hope this one is going improve upon their open world formula as their environments are quite empty.
Hopefully it isn't empty like every other Mafia game.
Yes please. Mafia Definitive Edition was absolutely brilliant, I’d rather one like that instead of a checklisty open-world thing like Mafia 3.
New Hanger 13 prequel to Mafia or what?
Mafia: now with loot boxes, 3 types of currency and a shop! They have got to fleece us somehow!
@CieloAzure
Yes, that would be fun. But I'm starting to get a little tired of next gen updates. All old stuff in a newer guise. It's time for full-fledged games and successors. So bring on Mafia 4!
@nessisonett Have you ever played the Godfather on PS3? Was from EA I believe. That was a really cool game. Measure a little bit of SIM aspects into it.
They should probably fix the trophy bugs that have been plaguing mafia 3 for years before they make a new game.
@FantasyExplor3r88 no they didn’t? What was wrong with it?
I want Mafia 4, an all new game. The remake of the original was much needed and was a good remake. Mafia 2 and 3 are fine as they are now. Maybe a remaster for 2 with an expanded map and new features, but only after an all new game.
Mafia 4 as a prequel could be interesting as it could include the 1920's prohibition roaring 20's. Hopefully a new game would have a city with more life and side stuff to do than previous games. Don't need much, just some stuff like being able to take taxi rides, interacting with some npc's, more choices of clothing and hair styles, and police that don't have idiot AI.
An update to Mafia 3 to resolve all the trophy bugs would be nice.
'We have decided to disband Hangar 13, and are looking to sell the Mafia IP'.
Had a blast with Mafia 1 and 2 a few years ago. Mafia 3 doesn't run great on PS5 however so I didn't get very far. I know its not the most fondly remembered Mafia game in the trilogy but I'd still like to give it more of a chance myself so I'd like a next gen update to that if possible.
Of course I'd also be cool with a new game all together as well.
I'd be over the moon with whatever it turns out to be. Such a great series.
Has the Mafia series ever done LA, or even the rise of LV? They'd be some eras/settings I'd love to see in a game 🦩🍸💀
More mafia games is welcome.whathever it is should be cool.word up son
If it's anything like Mafia 3, no thanks. The first was their masterpiece, but I highly doubt they'll do anything similar.
I honestly think these titles haven't age well, gameplay wise and story wise.
I think it was impressive at the time, but comparable to actual gangster movies and newer games, the storys pretty average. And the gameplay is very dull 2 decades later.
3s an outlier and just kind of a bad game.
A full reboot is how I'd do it. Or just shelf the series.
So far, I've heard about next gen updates, a sort of 'Mafia 0' set in Sicily and a Mafia 4 set in 70s or 80s Las Vegas. I hope they all come true, eventually
@LordAinsley 2 and 3 are pretty good (story wise, 3 is amazing) and Mafia 1 DE is awesome.
@Fyz306903 I agree. I think 70s - 80s based in Vegas or New York would be perfect.
@nessisonett I agree. I'd rather a mostly linear, narrative driven game than an empty, soulless open world.
@Fyz306903 I think at the time the stories seemed sweeping and interesting. replaying DE for the first time in 20 years really made me realise how far story in games has come over 2 decades though.
I think 2 still has the best narrative. 3 is interesting and a bit different although the open world gameplay wasnt great
Maybe they are announcing they are finally going to fix the trophies in Mafia 3? Still waiting to Platinum that bloody game.
@Mag1c1an you and me both. Even tried playing the game without updates, crash after crash. Its not possible on any update after 1.09
I only played mafia 2. I don't really remember it. I can remember the godfather 2 tho.
@nessisonett yeah, I was enjoying it too but then why the open world? Half of the game was driving from A to B to get to the next mission. They could easily just made a cutscene-divided, open-aera styled experience instead of a half gangster-half driving simulator game.
Mafia Definitive Edition was bad and Mafia 3 was worse. Don’t have much hope for a new one but glad to see the IP live nonetheless
@Ravix
Vegas was the location I hoped for with Mafia 3. The early years in the 1950's or Rat Pack- Ocean's 11 era. New Orleans 1969 Dixie Mafia in Mafia 3 was an interesting time and location. The city did seem more alive in that game, the map was large, and vehicle and weapons/ammo delivery was nice additions from previous games in the series. However I would like to see a return of a safe house with stored customizable vehicles like in Mafia 2.
@NoCode23 yeah, 40's into 50's Las Vegas would be such a great setting for any game, but Mafia is just so perfect thematically, it would almost be silly not to do it.
Imagine a timeline where you see its growth across the years with the strip developing under possibly your characters influence, be that first hand or simply the consequences of your actions on behalf of those around you, and that would be a cool visual backdrop to any storytelling.
You would also get to see the rise of celebrity gangsters like Bugsy Siegel and how the press treat the mob, and how people are a little bit obsessed with the lifestyle. Plenty of pickings for satire
I mean, it just feels like it should be LV. And the tools are there to recreate a place like that on this generation's hardware.
I totally missed this great series so a current gen update for me would be sublime.
