Two years after debuting in Sonic the Hedgehog 2, it seems a Hollywood leading man of sufficient talent has finally been found to portray the edgy Shadow the Hedgehog. Keanu Reeves, who needs no introduction but will get one anyway, is the star of film franchises like The Matrix and John Wick, and, of course, Cyberpunk 2077, has been confirmed to play the part.
Rumours have circulating in recent hours, but The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed the casting, locking down multiple sources familiar with the subject. The news comes hot on the heels of the first footage of Sonic the Hedgehog 3 being shown during Cinemacon. Reeves will no doubt spice things up in his own, uniquely Keanu way, but it remains to be seen how he fairs when paired with the moustachioed Dr. Robotnik, with Jim Carrey confirmed to be reprising the role.
What do you think of Keanu Reeves's casting as Shadow the Hedgehog in Sonic the Hedgehog 3? Please refrain from posting fan art in the comments section below.

Whoa.
Basically perfect. Or as perfect as you can get for a Hollywood actor instead of just the original guy.
So Cyberpunk's two biggest supporting characters now voice Sonic characters. There's a joke in there about how both Sonic film and Cyberpunk both needed fixing to come good.
Not interested in Sonic media where anyone talks, but that's cool.
Whoah... I'm just looking forward to another round of weird product placement that for some reason becomes an integral part of the plot. Anybody else hungry for some olive garden?
Jim Carrey and Keanu Reeves in one movie. That makes the movie already gold in my book.
Perfect casting
Please Paramount I'm already going to see Sonic 3 you don't need to convince me even more 😅
On another note... what happened to the like a dragon movie sega announced? Personally I think an anime would be a better fitted format, but if they treat it with the same quality as Tokyo vice and shogun I could see it pan out well.
Just need Jeff Goldblum as Big the Cat now and we've got a winner on our hands
@tameshiyaku Well there's already a Like A Dragon film. Did they actually announce a new one or refer to the old one?
@Matroska I know, the one by Mike, but that was somewhat underwhelming.
This was announced a few years back:

Great casting!!! Loved it!!!
Reeves has been a long-time fan favorite to voice movie Shadow so I'm not surprised. Good for all Shadow (and Reeves) fans though.
@BeerIsAwesome I don't know what that means, but I've learned that when it comes to Sonic not to ask.
So the goat 🐐 has now become a hedgehog 😆
They found a way for Shadow to whip out guns and not make the audience cringe. Well played, Sega/Paramount. Well played.
@Gremio108 Uh uh where is uh Froggy
@tameshiyaku Ah, cool. Well hopefully it isn't stuck in development hell. I'm guessing the Mike one didn't have the playfulness of the game series?
@Matroska partially, but it just didn't have that mad energy. But then they added blue flames to his fists for heat mode. It covered some story beats but in a very underwhelming way. I think miike also had to work on a super low budget, because I'm sure he's the right man for the job under the right circumstances.
They also made a series off of the Yakuza psp games, which wasn't bad actually.
I think juggling the serious drama and the silliness would work best in anime, but I'd like to be proven wrong.
Now they've done it. Shadow will be more popular than Sonic. 😂
