Sony has revealed that not only is Dave the Diver coming to PS Plus Extra on its release date of 16th April 2024, but so too is the upcoming Metroidvania title Tales of Kenzera: ZAU. Launching under the EA Originals banner, the promising indie platformer is coming out on 23rd April 2024 for PS5, and PS Plus Extra members gain access that very same day.
Community manager Joe Richardson sets the stage on the PlayStation Blog: "Players will take control of Zau, a young warrior-shaman from Amandla, who seeks out Kalunga, the God of Death, to bargain with him to bring his Baba back from the realm of the dead." He then continues: "Wielding two powerful masks imbued with the cosmic power of the sun and the moon in a beautiful and chaotic dance, Zau travels across Kenzera, a rich mystical realm inspired by Bantu tales, fighting tough ancestral spirits and platforming obstacles to find the 3 mighty beings that have eluded the God of Death."
In true Metroidvania fashion, you'll unlock new abilities as you progress through the game, which are tied to the sun and moon masks you can equip. Dubbed Sprit Attacks, these include lunar beam blasts and supernova fire spells. New traversal skills will then unlock optional areas and make platforming more manageable.
For PS Plus Extra and PS Plus Premium members, that's Dave the Diver on 16th April 2024 and then Tales of Kenzera: ZAU one week later. The full lineup of PS5, PS4, and Classic titles for April 2024 will be announced on 10th April 2024. Are you happy with what we've already got to look forward to? Nice! Two day 1 games I planned on buying
This looks a lot like the recent PoP game and that's a good thing, loved that one.
April is shaping up to be a really good one for PS+ Extra.
This is great news. Good to see African folklore and afrofuturism gaining in popularity.

This should at least save us weebs a few dollars thinking it's a new "Tales of" game and realizing later it is a metroidvania.
Get in I have had this in my wishlist since it was announced. April is looking solid!
Ultimately, not a game for me - including but not limited to it looking really rather dull. I reckon Dave will be a fair bit more popular, definitely has more hype behind it if Steam is any indication.
Yeah, zero interest in this lol.

Extra is going for it this month. I’m glad they didn’t try putting one behind premium
Great month for Extra subscribers

Pretty cool, really like day one indies on the service, probably helped this game big time
Wasn't interested but might try it if it's free.
Developer made this as a tribute to his late father, I think that's quite beautiful.
Awesome, second game I was looking into buying going day 1 to the service.
Sony throwing some serious punches, probably looking to aggressively grow sub numbers (this can not be either normal or viable long-term).

@Cikajovazmaj They're relatively small titles and Playstation doesn't do it very often and when they do it is only with Indies where the lost sales don't really hurt them too much.
It's the one made by the chap who voiced Bayek, right?
Cool. This makes it much more likely I’ll play it. Prince of Persia sort of scratched my itch for the genre, but I’ll definitely try this out while I’m still subbed. Day 1s are incentive to sub for me

Really excited to play ZAU. Became a fan of Abubakar Salim during the pandy after watching the show "Raised by Wolves" (so gd freaking tremendous as Father). Remember finding out he voiced Bayek in Assassin's Creed and got why it seemed like people really liked the character. Hope ZAU is great!
@RBRTMNZ I was looking for that the other day as well and found it. Tap on someone's comment and there should be an "ignore" option that pops up on the same line as "reply". Hope this helps!
Metroidvanias? Count me in.
I'm so curious about all these deleted, controversial comments on what should be a pretty straightforward article with good news for subscribers.
@RicebinBernacky If you go onto Steam, you can check the Curators list on the game's store page and see what they are saying - the game's Steam forum is also useful. A notable complaint on there is the use of Denuvo (anti-tamper / DRM garbage) but I'll leave you to dig further.
Was planning on getting this on the Switch, but will probably play on PS since it's no extra cost.
To much to play already to bother with this even if it is free.
Fantastic news... another really good looking title that I was afraid might not find an audience. It certainly will now....
@Titntin Will it, though? I always wonder. Tchia was fantastic but how many people actually download it off Extra? I didn't until it was announced to be leaving the service. It's such a shame we don't have data available for Playstation games, in the way that we do have it for Steam.
Looks like a fun time, love a Metroidvania.
Thank goodness! I was gonna buy these 😅 Now I can put that money towards Stellar Blade... f*** it's expensive 🥲
@Golem25 I certainly downloaded Tchia as soon as it became available and played it for many enjoyable hours.
I intend to do the same with this game.
Reports from many indie devs have confirmed that adding their title to sub services gets them an audience they would not have achieved otherwise. We don't have hard figures of course, as you pointed out, but it makes sense and devs are confirming it so I see no reason to doubt it at all?
Oh kenzera is 2D. I don't know why I thought it was a 3D rpg haha.
May have to get a 3 month subscription soon
@GKT Thank you! I appreciate the tip.
@GKT yes, he was fantastic in raised by wolves. Too bad it was cancelled after S2. It felt like an odd sci-fi show from the 90s.
Perfect game for subscription services.
I have a couple of games on there I like to try and done with PC GamePass for now.
Jump to PS+ for a month or 2 next month.
@RicebinBernacky I know what Disco Elysium run they are doing
@Golem25
sounds like things that are pretty irrelevant to the content of this article, so I can understand why the comments were removed
Based on the pre order rankings at least for Zau, putting onto PS Plus and getting that income is probably the best move. In a strong start to gaming in 2024 I could see this game getting lost on the PS store. This will find a bigger audience on PS Plus. I have heard lots of good things about Dave the Diver from Switch players and that seems to be a good addition.
@RicebinBernacky yep I was wondering the same. So many deleted comments.
And I see that increasing every day in this page. Post sections are either getting more toxic or the ones in charge of deleting them have become too sensitive. I just can't tell which one it is because I never got to see the original deleted comments in the first place; or if I have, they mostly never called my attention in a bad way in the first place.
Hope this comment does not offend anyone and gets deleted too
Had my fill of Dave the Diver on my steam deck, but definitely interested in Tales of K.
But it reminds me I need to go back to Prince of Persia too!
Looking amazing! Finally this type of game which is not with the ugly 8-bit graphics.
I don't have extra, so I might actually buy it depending on the price since I can't have too much metroidvania games. Would have gotten the new prince of persia if it wasn't overpriced at 79.99 cad.

Remember when we could just play video games that looked pretty cool without feeling like you have a bunch of people on two sides screaming at you?
Good times.
I'm not really in the mood for any more metroidvanias for a while, but I thought the guy showing this at the game awards seemed nice, and I hope he does well.
That said, it's sad that it's come to PS Extra as it shows how little faith the publisher has.
Wow. I was planning on preordering ZAU next week. Great news. This looks like it will be a GREAT game, especially coming off the heels of enjoying Prince of Persia a lot.
