Private Division has announced its Hobbit life simulator Tales of the Shire will release for PS5 later this year. Confirmed in an all-new reveal trailer viewable above, it matches stylised visuals with simulation mechanics like home decoration, friendship making, and exploration.
Any other confirmed details are scarce, though we know the game will be developed by Weta Workshop, which has a history in special effects for films and TV shows. The official page on the Private Division website then adds: "Your cosy Hobbit life awaits in Tales of the Shire, a heart-warming, new, The Lord of the Rings game due out in 2024 on console and PC."
Will you use Tales of the Shire as a chance to play out the hobbit lifestyle? Let us know in the comments below.

Finally a new entry in the Tales series!
Looks like a mobile game advert...
Looks like something I could get really addicted to. Better stay clear.
I thought this looks neat. If it can capture the feeling of just existing in The Shire, it should be a very comfy game.
Question: Right at the end (1:45) there's a reference to "Middle Earth Enterprises" in the credits. Is this the same as "Middle Earth Enterprises & Friends" the entity that is now supposedly the AAA development/publishing studio of what was the Embracer group?
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. For me, these graphics and animations are … concerning? I hope I’m wrong. I really, really, really want to like this game. Really!
I quite like the graphics being cartoony but the animations are… something.
I'm guessing this will also be on PS4 since it's on the Switch.
They should take a page out of Stellar Blade's playbook and make all the female hobbits smexy. All the jank will just disappear in a cloud of jiggle effects and thick thighs.
I did’t know I needed a hobbit life simulator but I do. These animations are quite something though 🙂↕️
This caught me by surprise! Might be fun, Ill keep an eye on this...
Amazing idea yet the game looks terrible. I hope they smooth things out before release, but we all know that more likely than not it will be released in a rough state.
@Littlejack "Middle Earth Enterprises" (formerly Tolkein Enterprises) is a holding company for the adaptation rights to The Lord of The Rings and The Hobbit, which Embracer Group bought from the Saul Zaentz corporation in one of its recent acquisition sprees, so yes.
This could be a good idea for a mod for Stardew Valley. I'm just not sold by the art direction and the gameplay being shown.
@3Above Uh nope, it is on Switch, PS5, XSX/S, and PC via Steam.
Definitely not for me but at least it looks better than Gollum.
I'm totaly from other side (I hate hobbits) so this is definitely not for me.
Anyway I'm big fan of LotR and still waiting for some proper Orc or Sauron game.
@anoyonmus That's weird, cause why skip PS4 if it runs on Switch but ok.
Might be interesting.
I actually liked it
As a die hard LotR fan...I'm very interested despite the janky overall look.
If there is some kind of multi-player, especially cross platform, this will be a must-buy for me and my kids!
Looks cute and relaxing... Color me interested.
Time for your sixth meal of the day, 2nd supper, go and get those ingredients!
Love the concept, hate the art direction.
@3Above There have been a few more instances recently of stuff coming on PS5 & Switch but missing out the PS4 - mainly smaller devs. A niche title like this should be released on as many platforms as possible, you'd have thought?
I assume it's because there are enough PS5 owners out there to mug or that they know that PS4 owners have more discerning taste!
