Last week's leak was bang on: The Rogue Prince of Persia is real, and it is indeed a roguelite action platformer from Evil Empire — the developer that's been in charge of updating Dead Cells post-launch. It looks like a really promising project in its reveal trailer, but there's just one problem: it's yet to be confirmed for release on PlayStation. It enters Steam early access next month, on the 14th May, while Ubisoft says that it'll arrive on "other platforms" at a "later point".
There's every chance that this one will end up on consoles once it's done with early access — as seems to be the trend these days. Given how well received Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown has been, we can't see this second side-scrolling spinoff avoiding PlayStation systems for too long.

looks terrible, like a cellphone game.....
Not feeling the art direction if I'm being honest. Movement looks nice and fluid as it should though. I might give it a whirl.

Looooove the artstyle, the colour palette nodding to classic DOS colours like magenta and yellow is inspired.
(Trying to work out what I’m thinking of, I want to say screen printing is the inspiration)
@JeongersGaming which race is purple in your view? Seems to just be an artistic choice to me, but sure make it about 'woke' culture 🙄
Horrible graphics and horrible music.
Ubisoft never disappoints.
Another rogue game, I hate this genre
@nessisonett for me it’s more like if Wes Anderson decided to make a videogame. The palette really reminds of The Grand Budapest Hotel.
I'll wait until this one comes out on any console, then
Reminds me of Guacamelee
I dig it! Looks cool! The art style and color palette look would look real nice on OLED devices.
@JeongersGaming
“Everything I don’t like is woke” 🤡
I like the art style. It is unique and clean for gameplay purposes. The rogue-like aspect is an instant put-off in general since if there are three genres I've grown to hate in the last 5 years (overstauration and a lack of good ideas) it is 2D Rogues, 2D metroidvanias and Souls-like combat in games.
I’m down for more 2D Prince of Persia adventures. I also personally like the art style. I am disappointed that it’s a rougelite, but it should provide tons of enjoyable hours. My only concern is the difficulty because these games are known for their tough platforming, and having that in a roguelite could get tiresome, but I guess we will have to wait and see how it’s balanced.
@jFug @Llamageddon If you guys really couldn't tell that was obviously taking the p*ss out of people complaining about everything being woke (including the other PoP game that came out a few months ago) there's no hope I'm afraid. Like come on, the dude is purple. You thought that was a serious complaint about race swapping?
Anyway, for a serious comment. The game looks alright. Dead Cells devs is a good sign. Not interested in early access, but it'll be at least 1.0 when it drops for consoles so it's no bother for me.
@JeongersGaming Given the sh*tshow that is the internet, your comment seemed like standard fare tbh. Don't get me wrong I'm glad that it was intended as satire.
Loved the lost crown and got high hopes for this iteration of the prince. I agree with you that it's in good hands.
