Boy, those first few months of 2024 were crazy, right? The torrent of big, flashy new games is finally relenting, though, and the UK's physical games chart is beginning to settle into a groove. EA Sports FC 24 is number one, once again, and Hogwarts Legacy is equally consistent at number two.
The remainder of the bestsellers has been moving around a little, with the popular Helldivers 2 making a leap back into the top 10. It's now eighth, up from 14th. Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate is up to fourth, with the PS5 and PS4 versions taking up 99 per cent of the share. Elden Ring's resurgence is tempered slightly, as it shifts down from third to sixth.
Here's the latest physical top 10 in full.

Xbox One and Series X is only responsible for 1% of Mortal Kombat 11's physical sales last week? Jeez. It should at least match their market share, which is not that low yet.
@The_Wailing_Doom Of the big three, Microsoft's player base is far and away the most digital-centric in terms of their purchasing habits. They'll unquestionably be the first to cut off physical media entirely from their console line.
Hogwarts Legacy was such a win. It's a shame they are probably going to ruining the next one with live service BS.
I know that Fighting Games sell best on Playstation but 99%? That is clinical.
Very sad not seeing FFVII Rebirth the Charts anymore.
@Ralizah @The_Wailing_Doom Wait, MK ELEVEN is the MK in the charts, and we're talking about what platform it's selling on?
@NEStalgia
Yes, because the spread is nuts.
@The_Wailing_Doom Yeah, but it's MK 11. It's kind of sad that 11, and not 1, is the one on the charts on any platform.
But, seriously, 99% of the physical sales may be on PS, but I imagine physical sales of any FG other than maybe SF6 are pretty low in general. And like Ralizah said, XB is only slightly more physical than PC at this point, considering the cheaper mass market model is all-digital (adorably.) Anecdotally I jumped back into xb with the 1x specifically to make it my all digital console while PS would remain my physical one. Then ended up really enjoying the "game juke box" of digital and re-bought my PS library digitally, anyway. But XB definitely shines most in how it handles an all digital environment. If I were recommending a console to someone that wanted only physical games, I'd never recommend an XB to them. Though in the modern age of day 1 patches I'd probably tell them to take up knitting instead. Even Nintendo games don't come on the cart anymore.
@Splat Seriously, they have the only single player AAA game that actually lives on the top 10 charts over a year past launch in memory, surpassing a Nintendo new release, surpassing the evergreen heavy hitters including 2 Mario games, surpassing even mighty Minecraft, Elden Ring, and fad Helldivers. And they don't want to make a sequel to that and instead want to turn it into another GaaS after all their failed GaaS's. So depressing.
Sort of feels like very few games are releasing this year, at the moment
Long live Helldivers 2. A few of those purchasers were mates of mine, who I've been guiding through their first few missions over the weekend and yesterday.
I think they were just humouring me as I wouldn't shut up about the game, but now they're hooked too.
@NEStalgia
Calling Helldivers a fad is a clown comment. Its player retention stats are incredible.
You’re talking about a physical only chart here and trying to draw conclusions from it. In March when Digital was added Helldivers was the number 1 game in the UK, Hogwarts Legacy was 9th. In Europe Hogwarts Legacy wasn’t in the top 10. On PSN Helldivers was no.1 in Europe and Hogwarts Legacy wasn’t in the top 20.
In 5 years when Helldivers lifetime gross is like 500% of Hogwarts Legacy you’ll probably understand why they want to go chasing that money. They probably won’t succeed but I understand why they are doing it.
@ChrisDeku Oh, I wasn't trying to downplay Helldivers or anything. Though I do think it's something of a short term boom like Among Us or Overwatch, that was "huge huge huge" and then kind of receeded into the background. They didn't die, but they're not in the big 10 anymore. I do think that will happen with HD. But it wasn't a knock on it.
The majority of HD sales is on PC, though, and it will live a different life cycle as primarily a PC staple that's also on console.
And yeah, I agree I understand "why" they're doing it, but it's the "it probably won't succeed" part that we also agree on that still makes me question the sanity of execs willing to trade a good thing for a gamble they have a proven track record of losing. Eventually it starts looking like a gambling addiction "I've lost 100 times in a row, I can't lose forever, the jackpot has to hit soon!"
@NEStalgia true but that also sums up most games. My buddy HATES live service games, and asked why Im playing Destiny 2 when it will end or have stuff removed… my answer was most people beat a game and seldom ever come back to it. He sort of acknowledged that. In today’s world very very few people only play a single game forever. Whether its FF7R, Elden Ring, or Helldivers/Destiny/TheDivision. We play till the main content has been seen then we move on.
Happy to see Hogwarts Legacy keeps selling. I hope they boicot the next one too.
MK11 😂 there’s a new one guys
@ChrisDeku You do realise Hogwarts Legacy is a year old now right? So I'm not sure why you think Helldivers 2 beating it today in the charts is impressive.
@ChrisDeku Helldivers 2 is a breath of fresh air. It's awesome.
