In a calmer week for new game releases, perhaps the biggest surprise in the UK's physical games chart is the return of a modern classic. Yes, Elden Ring is back in the top 10, leaping from 20th all the way up to third, mixing in with the heavy hitters. It's unclear if this is simply down to a price reduction, or if Shadow of the Erdtree has got everyone fired up, but there it is. Above it are EA Sports FC 24 in first and Hogwarts Legacy in second, as you'd expect.
Helldivers 2, meanwhile, has finally seen a decrease in physical sales. It's been in the top 10 since launch, but has now dropped out, moving from seventh to 14th. Going in the opposite direction is Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate, moving from 11th to fifth. Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown shifts down once place to ninth, and filling its old space is LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, which force jumps to eighth all the way from 21st.
Here's the latest physical top 10 in full.
UK Sales Charts: Week Ending 6th April, 2024
- EA Sports FC 24
- Hogwarts Legacy
- Elden Ring
- Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
- Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate
- Princess Peach: Showtime!
- Super Mario Bros. Wonder

That’s a “these games are currently on sale and there’s otherwise nothing new” list if I’ve ever seen one.
MK11 - lol.
hopefully, MK1 is doing good in digital, as I play it daily. would be unfortunate if daily player base decrease.
How the hell on earth is anyone still buying MK8 Deluxe??? 😂
Good to see MK11 on there. Solid fighter imo that i put over 300 hours in to back in the day. I loved the character customisation options. Imo its the better MK game. Im sure Helldivers will creap back up and carry on spreading democracy soon.
@BaldBelper78 i know right? Got to give it to N tho. When they sell a game they sell a game. Some of their sales figures are just insane.
@BaldBelper78 MK8 is not only one of the best games on the system but also one of the most casual-friendly. Everyone knows and loves Mario Kart! Very easy pick-up if you're getting a Switch, and the Switch is still selling very well.
@BaldBelper78 New Switch owners. A gigantic chunk of purchasers grab it alongside their new console.
9 forgettable titles and one I haven’t been able to stop investing time into, well after 2000 hours… what is it I can’t imagine again? People giving a ***** about Rise of Ronin et al? Yeah. Trash compared to Elden Ring
I expect helldivers2 to get an increase in sale when they announce the next enemy faction. I could see them announcing it at a PlayStation showcase.
@BaldBelper78
It’s the type of game that both Sony and Microsoft wish they had.
Everyone knows Mario kart, even those that never really game.
Mortal Kombat is on there because it's about £3 for ultimate.
"Elden Ring spirit springs back" 😁.
@fancy_bandage_PSN Have to admit, I've never heard the "Minecraft is forgettable" angle before.
@Kidfunkadelic83 Imagine Mk9 sales!
@BaldBelper78 It's sort of a mandatory game for all the new Switch users, I guess...
@Americansamurai1 I doubt that. It's not like anyone would care outside of the established playerbase.
@RoomWithaMoose I used to feel the same way and then I saw base games selling considerably well when an expansion was announced/released. Like, if you weren't that excited about the game for months to actually buy it, how did the expansion change your mind?
But that's how it works, at least some of time.
@naruball It would depend how they market it. For an expansion, you can emphasize me features and fresh content to make the entire game seem fresh and new. That can catch people's attention and generate new sales.
If it's just a content drop in a live service game that constantly gets content drops, only people actively playing the game will notice.
If they JUST announced a new enemy faction, sales won't change. If it's positioned like a new season, with new enemies, weapons, levels, gear,etc., it could see an increase.
@RoomWithaMoose I suppose even with content drop, if they advertise it properly, it can entice people to give it a try. The same way that people finally give Fortnite a try after their favourite character is featured.
@naruball yeah live service titles are a.different beast when it comes so what increases their sales.
@naruball A big part of what drives a successful service game is just the FOMO factor. The more it looks like "everybody else plays this" and "everybody else has been playing this since forever", and the more it's in the news cycle because of updates that it feels like you're missing out on what everyone else is already participating in and you're on the outside and everyone else is on the inside, the more it sells.
It's pretty unhealthy, even when it's a worthwhile game, but that's what moves numbers.
@NEStalgia:
you're describing games like Palworld, not Helldivers 2 case mate.
@fancy_bandage_PSN
Elden Ring is trash compared to Nioh. And really? You call Minecraft and Mario games forgettable? Minecraft is one of the best selling games of all time as is Mario Kart. Minecraft is also more played and spoken about than every From Software game combined. So your opinion isn't just bad, it's objectively wrong.
@kazuyamushima I think he's describing both games.
@NEStalgia you're absolutely right. That's exactly how the average person thinks. That's why it's called the snowball effect. Same with consoles. I have plenty of friends who got a Ps5 and hardly ever use it, only because everyone wanted one. After they got it, their FOMO went away.
@Americansamurai1 there's only 3 enemy factions.
@TruestoryYep you can't say someone elses opinion is wrong. It's their opinion.imo for example, Minecraft suks.
@jedinite yeah the original game only had 3 but part could have a lot more depending on its longevity.
