Japanese games publisher Capcom has been absolutely killing it for many years now, and with its latest annual financial results, it's done it yet again. Thanks to a series of top-selling games in its most popular franchises, the company has reached record high profits for the seventh consecutive year, and the 11th consecutive year of operating income growth.
For the financial year ending March 2024, all figures are up considerably compared to the previous year. Net sales were approximately $977 million, up 21 per cent; operating income was $366 million, up 12.3 per cent; ordinary income was $381 million, up 15.7 per cent; and net income attributable to owners of the parent was $278 million, up 18.1 per cent. In a nutshell, doing pretty well, then.
The main driver of these record high figures is software sales. Resident Evil 4 was the biggest contributor, selling 3.39 million units during this financial period. It's far from the only success, though, as 15 games sold 1 million copies or more in the same timeframe. Street Fighter 6 sold 3.3 million, Dragon's Dogma 2 sold 2.6 million, and older titles like Monster Hunter World and Resident Evil 7 are very much still in the mix. Even Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen, the updated version of the original game, sold nearly 1.7 million copies thanks to hype for the sequel.
Capcom's forecast for its next annual results is understandably optimistic, then. It's anticipating net sales of about $1 billion and operating income of about $410 million, which would be another step up.
On the horizon, the publisher has announced games such as Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess and Monster Hunter Wilds, and it's expected that new games in the Resident Evil franchise — like Resident Evil 9 — are also in the works.

Put out good games, get more money. Other developers take note!
Ridiculous. Modern Capcom is unbelievable.
Well deserved. Capcom has been doing really well lately. Minus a little bumps in the road with dragon dogma 2. I am looking forward to what an open world resident evil looks like tho. That will be interesting.
@Bentleyma kind of ironic, since Hi-Fi Rush was great, yet it didn't sell well enough to save Tango from closure.
Good for Capcom, though. Some sequels still sell well, it seems.
It's interesting how well studios and companies can do when they are not bought out by money grabbing greedy companies who think throwing money and any problem is the answer. Amazing as well what happens when talent is allowed to breathe and not forced to do things they dont want to do and not forced by financial timetables.
Take note Microsoft & embracer. This us how you run a software business alow your talented staff to create wonders for you.
@naruball Yeah Hi-Fi Rush is great. Makes me wonder how it would of sold if people couldn't play it on Game Pass.
Congratz to Capcom! Very informative press release in terms of units sold - hope other publishers will be as transparent! (looking at you, Square Enix!)
Way to go Capcom. There’s still a lot of franchises I want brought back from them but I definitely have been enjoying their recent games as of late. Especially Street Fighter 6.
must be driven by the VR modes for Resident Evil 4 remake and Village I don't see any other explanation
@Bentleyma Is Gamepads A typo or an insult. I guess it does pad you out with many games.
N.i.c.e. now give me more onimusha.word up son
capcom might be the only major studio that I have active interest in most of their major releases in the past 5 years. (sorry exoprimal, you just weren't dino crisis)
@Ryall Typo!
Good to see Capcom doing so well. Going back to the snes ive always liked alot of the content they've put out.
A developer that respects its employees, its IPs and the consumers. Keep making good games, and making the IPs stronger. Learn from them Microsoft.
Capgod gonna Capgod. It's truly impressive. Not much else to say. Keep it up Capcom!
I just bought monster hunter world on PC yesterday. I also have the monster hunter world PS4 pro edition. And I have rise on PC.
Fully deserved, great studio making great games, well done Kapukon.
Banzai!
Exoprimal army 🔥🔥 🗣️🗣️
Can't wait for the new monster hunter to make it the 8th year in a row
I've been enjoying the Resident Evil, Street Fighter and Monster Hunter out put for the last decade and a half or so. Not thrilled at all with how SF 6's extra content has been handled post-release but unfortunately that's a problem with the entire fighting game genre. The Resident Evil teams are really on fire. Great remakes, worthwhile - and fairly-priced - DLC expansions, and even a lesser quality release like RE 3R is still a good game. Looking forward to the announcement of 9, just hope they don't go full open world with it.

I loved Hi-Fi Rush but I probably wouldn't have bought it despite great reviews as I don't (usually) like rhythm action games at all. That's also the beauty of Game Pass (and PS+) they allow you to try things you wouldn't buy risk free, at no added cost.
With each financial year, Capcom see more and more what gamers want and each year they release what we all want! It leads to growth and profits and amazing games!! I hope that Devil May Cry 6 is in the early stages of development, Dino Crisis or Onimusha is being considered for remakes and Darkstalkers would be a consideration for a return to the fighting scene. I would be even happier with Capcom than I already am!!
@ShogunRok and to think that they were so bad financially at one point they didn't want to make sf5 until sony came along and said hey we'll fund it and it sucked at launch cuz capcom had no faith in it and only succeeded after years of updates and now there on top of the gaming industry
Don’t rock the boat Capcom, you got this!
Please revive the Final Fight series please 🙏
It's almost like you don't have to spend crazy money to make great games. Long may Capcom continue
Personally, I loved Dragon's Dogma 2. Best game I've played this year.
Do you think it is related to the fact that Capcom develops all of their games in Japan? The west game development is mostly in trouble. Japanese people work so hard for a relatively low salary while due to cost of living and other multiple factors, game development cost, I think, is much higher in the west?
CAPCOM is my favorite gaming company, they always deliver, give me more Resident Evil games on VR2, please! Playing RE4R and Village on VR2 is my top 5 experiences in gaming.
Plenty of spare change to redo Dino crisis then.
This is by all means commendable, but people shouldn't be surprised that most companies rely on sequels. Record profits without a new IP performing well, unfortunately.
@ApostateMage It's easily one of the best games this year. DD2 does a fantastic job of making how an open world should be and the gameplay is some of the best fun you could have.
Great to hear. I will always be a diehard Capcom supporter thanks to series like Monster Hunter, Resident Evil, Ace Attorney, and Devil May Cry!
Good for them, unfortunately for me I don't enjoy any of their games, but I'm just glad someone is out here doing well honestly.
@themightyant Same here, I bought Hi-Fi Rush on PS5 after trying it on GP, and truthfully had I not been able to test it out, I doubt I would have bought it, despite the glowing reviews.
Must be all those microtransactions people were banging on about 🤑🤑🤑
Capcom is one of the few big publishers (maybe the only one) that delivers consistently and with a high bar for quality. Fighting games, horror games, action games, RPGs - all top notch in their genre.
It's like they are the one publisher still living in the 90s golden era while all the other big companies became addicted to crack and live in the streets now.
@naruball
When they are consistently high quality, I don't mind they are all sequels to an existing property. Plus, their established IP pool is so deep they could ride that train forever and avoid franchise fatigue. So many dormant series they haven't touched in awhile. Darkstalkers please.
Others trying to reinvent the wheel with subscriptions & going all out live service. Capcom & Nintendo doing what's worked with great execution.. and doing well. Let good teams make good games. Not trying to force the next Fortnite or conjure up new business models, just a steady stream of well made quality titles.
Well deserved for Capcom. A good mix of sequels, remakes and some newish stuff.
Hardly a surprise with bangers like DD2
@Vault_Mcfly Absolutly, among my best gaming expériences starting with RE7 on PSVR1. Talking of that one, it can't be that wishful thinking to get that glorious PSVR2 update with controls compatible with PS Sense controllers as Village and 4 remake.
@Specky dated game design is relative mate. DD1 was a niche RPG that many liked and DD2 is more of the same. Not everything has to be “new” or follow the flow of what everyone else is doing. That is the beauty of having many different game studios in existence with their own ideologies for things.
Ok Capcom, now use some of that money to remake/reboot Dino Crisis.
Damn excited for MH wilds capcom.
@CutchuSlow So not really into MonHon, then?
Pragmata? "Sorry 2025"?
@NEStalgia I like it. I just don't like to play alone. I've got 90 hours on Rise. I've added a few people to play with, but rarely found the time to play together. Haven't played in a year. But looking to start playing again.
@UnlimitedSevens but isn't this something that Sony has been accused of? Lack of new ips this generation? That's despite releasing several quality titles. The narrative is consistently that they don't take any risks. Capcom does the same and all I see is praise here. I think some people are harsher on some companies than other ones.
