HBO created a lot more The Last of Us fans with its super successful TV adaptation. The first season launched last year, finding a huge audience and critical acclaim, and the second series is now in production, heading to screens in 2025. Now, the company has provided our very first look at official shots from the anticipated new season:
Set to tackle the brutal, emotional story of The Last of Us: Part II, the second series sees Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey reprise their roles as Joel and Ellie, with lots of new characters joining them. Kaitlyn Dever will play the part of Abby, while additional characters Manny, Owen, Mel, and Nora have also been cast. Isabela Merced will portray Dina in the show.
Season two doesn't have a firm release date yet, scheduled to arrive sometime in 2025, so there's still some time to wait before we see if it can live up to the first. Are you excited to watch The Last of Us Season two? What do you think of the first shots? Tell us in the comments section below.

I feel like Bella Ramsay will probably still look 12 when they’re 30 so might as well get it over with.
I just want to see what Abby looks like.
The problem for me with this show is that I just never bought Pedro Pascal as a hardened survivalist type. Compare him to Andrew Lincoln's Rick Grimes for example.
Wtf is up with Pedro's hair? 😂 That is not Joel hair. And yea Bella still looks like a child. RIP cute adult Ellie 😔
Season 1 was an enjoyable show, but definitely doesn't compare to the original game. Felt rushed and some scenes lacked impact as a result of that. Still a solid 7/10, but I'm really hoping season 2 is an improvement.
Excited!
@nessisonett had no idea that she's almost 21, I reckon in the show they'll just shorten the gap between to explain her eternal youth.
I just played through TLOU2 again and I’ll be absolutely stunned if Bella Ramsey is able to carry this season like Ellie does in the game.
Expecting a poor season 2
So many haters. Season 1 was fantastic, very hyped for season 2!
Season 1 was incredible. Season 2 is going to be incredible. Enough said.
I'm imagining the big moment at the beginning of TLOU2 will be the penultimate episode of season 2 with season 3 leading the revenge story.
Really enjoyed the first season so I'm pretty hyped for season 2.
@LifeGirl
Neither did I with Bella.
Just doesn't work for me. None of the emotional moments hit for me. It all felt rushed and not enough time was spent with the main 2 characters themselves.
Just like anything else with Druckmann for the past decade, he makes outlandish decisions like the twitter warrior he is. It's crazy how much of his creative work is influenced by getting back at his internet haters. Very sad
@Clytorial_Impact Exactly. She barely kept Ellie from the first game in sights with her performance during season one. But she has no chance of coming even close to Ellie from Part II.
Waiting to see how the audience that doesn't play video games will react to season 2 if the story still follows the same beats.
I'm still going to watch this as I'm curious how they'll translate Part II's to TV even if I was in the minority that truly hated the game's story, and I obviously enjoyed Season 1.
I'm with others that don't see how this is really going to work with Bella given how many years had passed for Part II, but oh well I guess. It was always going to be difficult unless they recast Ellie for Season 2. I liked her fine in Season 1, but she's definitely going to look too young this season. Again, oh well I guess. Seeing what Kaitlyn looks like as Abby will be interesting.
@ATaco someone who has only watched this show probably won't be too bothered, TV audiences are fairly used to surprise deaths nowadays.
The emotional response of the story could only have happened in video game culture I think.
The skeptics are out in droves. Watch it, or don’t. There will be those who love it, those who hate it, and those who are indifferent. Either way, it’s not out yet so speculate away, but don’t convince yourself your speculations are fact or that they’re in any way representative of the full body of work S2 will represent when all is said and done.
And remember, “comparison is the thief of joy.” ✌🏼
@Frmknst It’s so obvious, yet it seems to bear repeating.
You denounced the opinion of someone who felt S1 was incredible and vaguely suggested they “watch some really good shows someday,” yet neglected to offer any suggestions. To what end?
Enjoyment is entirely subjective. You can comment on your own without feeling the need to pull others down.
@Matej “She has no chance” why? Because you said so?
I would understand feeling this way AFTER the season has aired and you’ve given it a shot, yet here you are not even willing to consider the possibilities.
Disappointing, to say the least.
Do keep in mind they're splitting part 2 into 2 seasons. And given the acclaim of the third episode, I think we'll see more original stuff and less rushing.
Also prediction, I also think last of us will reach the popularity of stranger things by the time game 2 is fully adapted. And probably become the biggest show of this decade along with squid game.
And also Factions would have likely been Sony's biggest hit of all time had it released given how talented naughty dog is in the gameplay department.
@anubisvel Yes, because I said so. Because it is my opinion which is the main purpose of comment sections, to express opinions and I refuse to add ‘to me’ or ‘in my opinion’ to every sentence because people nowadays tend to be sooo oversensitive. I watched the whole first season and I have seen her in other roles and based on those I stand by what I said. She’s not up to which is coming in next seasons.
