Psygnosis’s iconic PS1 flight combat game G-Police is the latest classic to get ported to PS5 and PS4 as part of Sony’s PS Plus Premium emulation efforts from 21st May. The title, originally released all the way back in 1997, sees you commandeering a VTOL in a futuristic, Blade Runner-inspired futuristic environment. While it largely received mixed reviews upon release, it’s stood the test of time as one the more memorable first-party titles deployed for Sony’s inaugural console.
As is the case for all PlayStation’s emulation efforts these days, you can expect uprendering, video filters, rewind functionality, and quick saves. There will almost certainly be Trophies to unlock, too, as practically all re-released first-party classics feature a selection of gongs these days.
The release will be flanked by extreme sports sequel 2Xtreme, a title which features rollerblading, skateboarding, cycling, and snowboarding. It’s actually the successor to ESPN Extreme Games, which is presumably not being ported due to licensing reasons. Subscribers will also be able to download Worms Pinball, a rebranded version of Addiction Pinball from British developer Team17.

A lot of people are complaining about this month on PSN but G-Police makes it worth it for me - especially if there are indeed going to be quicksaves.
Wow hard to imagine almost, hope this might be a sign of a sequel,,can dream..
G-Police is a great addition.
The game was ahead of its time on PS1, graphically and mechanically.
It’s one of the most overlooked and underrated games of that generation.
Might give this a go for old times sake. I’d give a kidney for Future Cop LAPD though! who remembers that bad boy! lol
@LifeGirl Same. It's one of those games that I remember seeing in the shops and wondering about but never bought nor got round to playing, despite it popping up here and there on the internet in the following years. Looks like now I'll have my chance to finally try it out. Let's hope it's worth it haha
@Jtheripper There was a sequel on PS1 actually. I know that's not what you mean, though!
Oh, very cool. I really enjoyed both of the GPolice games back in the 90s.
A VR GPolice game would be nice. It'll never happen, but it would be nice.
@Mikey856 I remember Future cop LAPD! Me and my mate had many a late night playing that, trying to storm each other’s bases! 🙂
@Nightcrawler7 haha awesome yeah the split screen was brilliant as well. I’m actually after a mint copy for my PS1 collection but can never find one
Loved this game. Now give us Future Cop and the Colony Wars games you cowards
Colony Wars next please!
I know they add these games to premium to make the service more attractive but id really like to see a classics style range where they take these older PS1 games and give them a nice frame/res boost and some QOL features and knock them out for 15-20 a piece. There are loads of classic games that i think would do well whilst keeping production costs low. Wipeout, G police, Syphon filter etc.
@Mikey856 yesss! Loved that myself
@Shepherd_Tallon I didn’t know there was more than one!
It would be better remade. It was very ambitious at the time and won't stand the test with the younger players.
I played elite on a c64 for months but wouldn't go back now I have it on PC. Maybe not the same type of comparison but all I have.
@Boucho11 it was so good wasn’t it. Looking forward to a bit of G police though for sure
Gpolice was a great game at the time but a toughie. Even with rewind and save states this could be a trickie title.
Now were getting Gpolice maybe we might see Colony Wars too.
I really like being able to play these old, tough as nails games with the rewind feature.
seeing the ending of games I never managed to beat as a kid is a joy
@Boucho11 Yeah I remember the second game kind of came in under most people's radars.
tbh I only played the first one because my friends wanted to try one of my games so we traded for a few weeks.
I ended up loving it though.
This is one of my favourite PS1 games.
@TheIronChimp Colony Wars was like my dream game back then. Was sad when the series went downhill and died.
Psygnosis games were all so good!!
I never play this game but i heard positive words about it.
I wonder if Sony gonna do PS1 classic such as Arc the Lad, Breath of Fire 4, Alundra, Vagrant Story, or Xenogears. I bought them on PS3/PSP and i would love to replay them again on PS4 with trophies the same way i got Wild Arms 1 & 2, Legend of Dragoon, Syphon Filter 1, and Grandia 1.
G Police is a great game! I remember playing it on my mate's PS1 on launch weekend. I also loved Urban Strike from a few years before on the Mega Drive (was on SNES and Game Gear too).
They should bring out a modern release. Desert Strike was legit one of the best Mega Drive games ever released.
Any of you noobs ever play Blade Force on 3DO??
Would love a PS5 remake of this! There’s nothing quite like it on the market right now. Loved it back in the day, but it was HARD!
Another one of the many games I loved even though I only ever played the demo, keen as
holy poop. If i can buy this i am smashing it! I rented this from my towns video game shop. Didn't enjoy it as much as colony wars. But I am very willing to give it another go. Plus.... psygnosis! I remember it even had options on the ps1 to change draw distance at the expense of other settings. Pretty neat.
ALSO RELEASE COLONY WARS YOU COWARDS!!!!
I WANT FUTURE COP LAPD
Will be tackling the trophies for this and probably 2Xtreme if I have the time.
ESPN Extreme Games was later stripped of its license and retroactively named 1Xtreme to match the rest of the series, so it's still on the table, however unlikely.
@daftfunk Was just about to say this! Sony could easily emulate the 1Xtreme version instead to bypass the licensing issue.
@SirSephy was that the one from the strike series people thathad a transforming police mech? I think I played it on a OPSM demo disk.
@JohntheRaptor amen brother. It was just a cracker. Ps1s own x-wing series in my opinion. Plus the mock james earl Jones voice actor always made me giggle. The first game was so chock full of lore.
I noticed with the recent PS1 releases there's a region selection, which is great for PAL gamers as we get 60Hz versions. G-Police, I remember playing this challenging but atmospheric game on my friends PS1 (I was a Saturn owner). The video sequences also really impressed me at the time.
@get2sammyb oh, i don't remember that even, maybe that will also be brought back then.
@Retron I would also like colony wars please as well thanks very much too. Thanks. Please.
Colony Wars was ace! I really liked the branching paths that you could immediately go back and replay for different outcomes
