We all know retail PS5 software sales are pretty poor in Japan right now, so it’s a testament to Shift Up’s character action outing that Stellar Blade’s actually doing decently. The Korean outing tagged another 13,033 units to its total for the week ending 12th May, lifting its lifetime sales up to 80,164 units overall. With digital numbers excluded, that’s not a bad number at all.
Unfortunately, this was a weak week for hardware. PS5 could only manage 21,518 units in the aftermath of Golden Week, although the ageing Nintendo Switch was also below its unstoppable best at just 47,064 units for the same period.
We’ve included the full breakdown of hardware and software sales below, as per Gematsu’s translation.

Not managed to get round to Stellar blade yet (still playing FF VII rebirth) but I liked the look of this and I'm glad it seems to be doing well. We need more new IPs being successful
I just finished Stellar Blade today. Was a great game. Really hoping that when the game says the story will continue, that it will do so. Hopefully a sequel is already in the works...
Genuinely curious who in Japan doesn't have a Switch at this point, how is it still getting all these sales do people over there buy one each month to decorate the house or something?
I feel like the discussion around Stellar Blade has significantly died down, but it could just be me. Still, happy to see it’s doing well in Japan. I’ll get round to it at some point as I played the demo before release and liked it.
@Tecinthebrain It’s starting to look like a lot of these switches are being bough purely to export. The Yen is very weak right now and switch sales in Japan are very peculiar, even week to week they tend to not follow a particular pattern.
Japanese RRP prices converted
Switch Lite - $128.67
Switch OLEd - $244.59
They were even doing promos recently
Yeah this game is genuinely fun and the music is 11/10
Totally deserved! It’s such a fun game to play!
Stellar Blade performing better than Bayo 3 is a testament of how much Sony missed out not picking up Bayonetta 2 publishing rights. It’s a series that would thrive much more on PS/Xbox than Nintendo.
Just got the plat. 10/10 for me.
@The_Pixel_King
Good catch. @Get2SammyB should see this.
Nintendo's dominance in Japan is just astounding.
Goty 2024 contender
Stellar Blade is GOTY. Really need that photomode soon though...
@Nepp67 agreed the music is superb and doesn't get enough of a mention!
The Switch sales numbers are insane.
13K is strong?
@Dodoo I genuinely just cannot stop listening to Enya's ost, probably my favorite one next to Oasis.
It's one of those games that is definitely greater than the sum of its parts. I can name a few things I genuinely dislike in stellar blade (most non boss qtes for example), yet it's still stuck in my mind a week after plat.
Deserves a sequel
I just need one more ending for the Platinum. Really great game. Congrats Shift Up!
So if it includes digital sales Stellar Blade probably sold around 100K copies in Japan which is great for a new IP and exclusive for PS5 too. I predict worldwide numbers probably could pass 500K or close to 1 million copies.
Meanwhile, some people in the internet boycotting this game just because they can't see a cleavage on some clothes lol.
@PuppetMaster Or that the blood was "censored" despite it being in literally every other part of the game and even in a death scene when she gets killed by a saw blade.
@PuppetMaster it looks to have launched at around 1-1.5m sales from extrapolating the data from third party sites tracking things like playtime and player numbers among sample populations.
@ChrisDeku 1-1.5 mill copies sounds great if it it's true.
@Nepp67 I heard the blood "censored" that Eve doesn't covered much blood. But it looks like only happened in performance mode. But yeah, it's really weird to see some people got angry about that since the blood and gore are still in the game.
@The_Wailing_Doom it's like iphones. When something becomes popular, people flock to it. Most people want what everyone else has. Same with playstation in Europe.
@The_Wailing_Doom Well it is the country of origin and is practically ingrained into its national identity at this point.
Started playing it a few days ago. Pretty good so far. My main thought at the moment is wether the game will have enough mileage that It'll be one of those single player games people will still be talking about months after release.
