We kind of already knew about this, thanks to a report from last year, but now it's all official. Amazon Prime Video has greenlit a live-action Tomb Raider TV series, with Phoebe Waller-Bridge attached as writer and executive producer. Here's the official post on the Tomb Raider site.
Waller-Bridge is an actor and writer best known for her work on Fleabag, Killing Eve, and No Time to Die. She's on board to pen the script for Lara's new show, and will executive produce alongside Jenny Robbins, Crystal Dynamics, Dmitri M. Johnson through dj2 Entertainment, Michael Scheel, and Legendary Television.
It seems she's a fan of the franchise in her comments on the order. "If I could tell my teenage self that this was happening, I think she’d explode," Waller-Bridge says. "Tomb Raider has been a huge part of my life and I feel incredibly privileged to be bringing it to television with such passionate collaborators. Lara means a lot to me, as she does to many, and I can’t wait to go on this adventure. Bats ‘n all."
Of course, Amazon's collaboration with Tomb Raider doesn't end here. We also know Amazon Games will be publishing Crystal Dynamics' next major Tomb Raider game, a "single-player, narrative-driven action-adventure". Rumour has it the game will be set in an open-world India.
Are you excited for Lara Croft's upcoming adventures from Amazon? Tell us in the comments section below.

Nice!!! She's a solid choice to lead.
She was terrible in Indiana Jones and the box office receipts prove it. If she brings that energy to this project then it's DOA.
@LifeGirl She's writing it, not starring in it.
Actress instead of actor, right?
@LifeGirl Yes, not sure if she was terrible or if it was just the last Indiana Jones film was so terrible she couldn't save it.
Strange choice to write it? Then again, if she's enthusiastic and remains true to the Core originals, could be good. I thought Rhianna Pratchett would have been number 1 choice though as she has history?
No Time To Die was one of the worst 007 films of all time, for which there's plenty of competition.
@Frmknst No, someone who looks like Angelina Jolie would be ideal, far more than Alicia Vikander.
Phoebe Waller-Bridge to write it? Ugh, this is a bad start... I've not enjoyed any of her writing or performances.
"Phoebe Waller-Bridge"
Aaaaaaand I'm out.
@Lup both terms are acceptable to describe a female actor. Nowadays I think actress may be more common in America due to American award categories and actor is possibly more common in England. Unsure though.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Actor
There's a section on that page about the history of the term actress. It has flip flopped throughout history. I'd always tend toward actor unless someone specifically preferred to be referred to as an actress.
@Lup @ralphdibny "Actress" is kinda considered an outdated term at this point. There was a push to just use "actor" to cover all genders to promote equality in the field and also allow non-binary actors to not struggle with picking one. Awards ceremonies haven't really caught up to this trend, but I think it's just a matter of time.
Could be good as a grounded serious archaeology show with some action, could be good as an action show with some archaeology. The important thing is everyone being on the same page knowing what they are making. Things tend to go awry when the script is a comedy but people are trying to act seriously.
I’ve liked most of what I’ve seen on Amazon, except Man in High Castle all of which could have been done in 2 seasons, so I’m looking forward to it, whichever way they go. I’ve liked the movies even though they aren’t comparable.
@wildcat_kickz yep, I prefer actor for that reason but language flip flops over time so I wouldn't be surprised if actress came back into fashion
@sanderson72 My vote goes for Sydney Sweeney.
@Lup Personally, I prefer the term 'tree trunk' since that more accurately describes how wooden the art of acting has recently become.
Amazon have done great things so I hope this trend continues, and they have top people on board. If only they'd done the witcher......
Trying to match fallout’s success may not work with a reality based Tomb Raider. Fallout is ridiculous and unpredictable, TR has to match that energy with its own wacky history. Monsters, traps, unexplored ruins and puzzles have to mesh together. It’ll never take off without that video game charm.

@Silenos I think No Time to Die is firmly in the top half of the pack. Definitely not great, but far from terrible. In my opinion, all of Moore's movies are way worse and Brosnan's films haven't aged all that well, apart from Goldeneye. Even Quantum I thought was worse, though No Time to Die doesn't even come close to the heights of Casino Royale or Skyfall. Gadget quantity goes up, film quality goes down.

@LN78 I totally get that. The Moore movies are just a bit too campy for my tastes. Not his fault, but more (moore?) just the vibes the producers were chasing at the time. The closer the movies get to the tone of the books, the happier I am.
@wildcat_kickz I 100% agree with you! Just please don't fall into the "I don't like thing, so thing bad" school of criticism that's so prevalent on this here Internet. It's an awful, reductive way of thinking.
I love Phoebe Waller-Bridge, great writer and she triggers a certain kind of people that are always good for a laugh.
Killing Eve has some great writing (and Jodie Comer would kill the VA as Lara!). And the story/characters wasn't exactly the strongest part of the reboot trilogy (to put it mildly), so I'm up for a shake-up
Sorry I can't help but be cynical anytime someone uses the "I'm a huge fan" phrases when trying to instill confidence. Doesn't mean it will be good or bad, but who knows if they are truthful.
@Zenos In one way that's not a bad thing. It makes knuckle dragging idiots so much easier to spot and ignore.

@Zenos You’re first comment was about wokeness = you’re already triggered before you even know a single detail of the show.
TV shows in which she was the lead writer:
Fleabag Season 1 - 88 on Metacritic
Fleabag Season 2 - 96 on metacritic
Killing Eve Season 1 - 83 on metacritic
But yes, she was acting in a bad Indiana jones movie that she has no writing credit for and that’s 100% relevant here 🤪
@Uncharted2007 I've actually enjoyed every new tv series they have put put up to now.
The Last Of Us was very well done and it captured the interests of non gamers, like I never thought it would.
FallOut ended up being good and quite funny with a serious undertone.
And for me the standout was actually Twisted Metal, omg that show was awesome l, it was hilarious, well written and made sense to go with the game, I actually can't wait for more of it. Had a decent story but it was good old fashioned dumb fun, which it should of been. They nailed it.
The only let down for me really was Uncharted, it was an OK movie, but uncharted was such a rich and thought out world and story that, it should of been treated as such and kept to the games story rather than mash all 3 together.
But the movie itself happened before the huge switch up in how video game adaptations were going to be handled.
I'm looking forward to tomb raider if Crystal dynamics are consulting on the TV series.
I'm actually looking forward to both God of War and Horizon.
@Zenos she was only the lead writer of season one though, bud
Why would I be triggered by something I perceive to be positive? That makes zero sense.
I hope it's filmed in the style of Fleabag. Might be the kick up the arse that the Tomb Raider brand needs

I'm perfectly fine with her being the writer. I didn't like her in the last Indiana Jones really at all, but that's one project and she didn't write it.
As for the show itself, I'm definitely interested unless they completely botch the casting of Lara. I've always been a big fan of the series and I've even liked all 3 movies, at least to varying degrees.
@VanguardKaiser That's actually not a bad choice looks wise. She has the look for it with her hair died. You could say she's a bit small, but so is Alicia, so I guess that doesn't matter. The only issue is whether she could pull off an English accent. Making Lara American would be an obvious mistake.
I've still yet to watch Fallout but none of these TV shows tend to really interest me in the first place. Just hurry up and make more games. What a drought we're experiencing...
Not a fan of some of the recent projects in this franchise having Lara being not so much of a Tomb Raider so if this is another one of those it'll be a shame.
I thought the "Phoebe was writing the series" was a joke but apparently it's not. Just wonderful...
Ugh. Another franchise destroyed.
Phoebe Waller- Bridge? U got be f......g kidding me🤣🤣🤣,DOA
@Zenos totally agree with season 3/4
was so bad and badly paced in killing eve
regarding tomb raider it basically indiana jones that all they have to do and it should be okay cus thats what the game was inspired by
start verging from that format with stuffing woke agenda political stuff and it will fail
respect the source material but amazon have checkered history with not respecting the source material
