Apparently, Ubisoft is betting big on Assassin's Creed over the next decade or so. According to a new article from Insider Gaming — who have a flawless track record when it comes to the French publisher — the company has seven Assassin's Creed projects in the potential pipeline, including Assassin's Creed Red (the Japan-based open worlder that's supposedly launching this year) and Assassin's Creed Hexe (a smaller game reportedly targeting 2025).
First up, we've got the Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag remake, which has been rumoured for a while. Last we heard, this one's in active development — but it's apparently not the only remake that Ubisoft has up its sleeve. We don't know what this second remake project is, but we'd assume that it'll be a revival of an older Assassin's Creed title. Maybe the first game? The classic that is Assassin's Creed 2? We'll have to wait and see.
Beyond that, there's something called 'Nebula' — which supposedly has settings spread across "India, Aztec Empire, and Mediterranean" — and two multiplayer Assassin's Creed games. One is reportedly a free-to-play co-op title codenamed 'Raid', and the other is 'Echoes'. Multiplayer hasn't been a part of the franchise since Assassin's Creed Unity, so it'll be interesting to see how all of this turns out.
Of course, there's every chance that some of these projects will be cut loose long before we get to see them — but it's still clear that Ubisoft is making big moves with what has become its most mainstream property.
What do you make of all this? How much Assassin's Creed is too much Assassin's Creed? Keep those blades hidden in the comments section below.

Unpopular opinion but I’m down. Re-watched all four seasons of Black Sails a few months back and have been itching to get my pirate on ever since.
Makes you wonder what the point of Skulls and Bones was if they’re just remaking the inspiration anyway
I said before, remaking Black Flag is a no brainer. Skull and Bones flopped so resuing that tech for a remake of a beloved AC game makes sense. The OG AC is the game that needs a remake the most. It could even be in the style of the later AC games since OG AC had pretty big areas, so if they can connect them all they could easily make it like the Origins type games which I'm not a big fan of but they are the most successful in the franchise.
I suppose this is the safe route for them. A bunch of their new original games haven't exactly hit the way they'd have liked (remember Hyperscape? no? didn't think so), so they're gonna lean on the tried and true IPs and formulas for a while.
Not too surprised.
I wish I liked Assassins Creed, because if I did I'd have enough content for several lifetimes
Ubisoft can start their redemption arc with an EXCELLENT Black Flag remake.
@colonelkilgore Yea Black Sails was lit... but how you relate that to an assassins creed remake idk.. but I agree we need to be asking for another season of Black Sails!! and you can keep this remake
Ehhh, it's something at least. No matter what they do Assassin's Creed will always sell. Though, I'm hoping we can see some trilogy focusing on one Assassin again, like Ezio. I don't like these pump and dump stories.
@Waitinonpsvr2 so Black Sails doesn’t remind you of Black Flag and vice-versa?
I can imagine some new skins will be thrown in on the black flag remake since it's ubisoft.
Whats the point of remaking old Assassins Creed games, the games are all exactly the same anyway, playing Valhalla feels like playing Origins, Playing 2 feels like playing Brotherhood etc.
Please do not buy these titles. Ubisoft need to stop churning out Far Cry 3 reskinned and AC reskinned every few years and they won't learn if you buy them
Black Flag seems too new for a remake, honestly. But whatever. I’m ok with a focus on AC. It’s a reliable 7/10-8/10 tier franchise, if nothing else.
@colonelkilgore Black Sails was like R rated and edgy bad ass. Black flag the game is like yea pirate based but its an open world stealth game... not to be compared sir
@Waitinonpsvr2 okaayy… well I think we’ll have to agree to disagree on that one buddy.
PS. PSVR2’s been out for over a year now, just sayin’ 😉
Seems pretty pointless remaking a game that released on PS4.... especially seen as the gameplay feels the same in the latest assassin's creed as it does the earlier ones
As a casual Assassin's Creed fan I already feel like there are too many titles, so this doesn't do much for me. I've played 1, 2 and Odyssey. One of these games evert several years is more than enough for me.
I'm a little interested in Red, but with GoT and RotR around a feudal Japan open world game is no longer the novelty everyone wanted 10-15 years ago.
I swear I’m the only gamer on the planet that doesn’t love this game, in fact, it ended my love for AC. I haven’t touched one since.
They could probably expand on the Ezio story if they wanted too. I remember in AC2 there were 5-10 year jumps in the story at some points where it wasn't explained in the game what he did in that time. But looking on the Wikia pages he went off to Spain etc.
Hello there fellow gamers.
I wonder what kind of remake AC Black Flag would Ubisoft do?
Will they make the exact same game, same gameplay mechanics and storyline with just very good visuals and animations?
Or will they make it a bit more like AC Origins?
Because, even though I´ve been an AC fan since the first with Altair, I would love a more open world, stealth action rpg game.
We´ll see what they decide to do.
Having said that, I´m very excited and quite curious to learn more about AC Codename Red and Hexe.
And agree with @colonelkilgore, Black Sails was such a good show and it does remind me a bit of AC Black Flag.
Especially Season 2. Underrated tv show. Would watch again.
Cheers everyone and happy gaming
I'm most interested in AC Red. Black Flag remake makes sense. Otherwise I think they could be overdoing AC.
@YeoSprings that's a good idea. It's been a good while since there's been a fresh Ezio story and he is arguably their most favourite character.
As for AC: Black Flag being remake, well my initial feeling is that it would be great for those new(ish) to PS5 or the franchise to have a native current-get version. It's a fantastic game.
Personally, as I already have this on PS4, PS3 and Switch I'm unlikely to re-buy for a fourth time. But I bet plenty would be!
Please, stop, they're milking the soul out of the franchise. Please stop hurting this series.
Red, Hexe, they need to be cancelled and re-emerged as non AC games.
I really just want a remaster of Unity at this point.
I’d love the Black Flag remake as long as it was single player only. I was interested in Red and Hexe until I read some of the rumors.
Black Flag bored me to tears so it would probably be the second AC I don't buy after Mirage.
AC Black flag fans - "We want a remake of Black flag!"
Ubisoft - "Oh, you want a remake? Well how about a different pirate game?"
AC Black flag fans - "No, just a remake will do"
Ubisoft - "Well we're sure you'll like this pirate game more so that's what we're doing."
Ubisoft - "We're still working on it."
Ubisoft - "Still working on it. It's coming soon."
Ubisoft - "Still being developed. It'll come out soon."
Ubisoft - "Here! Here it is! 'ave at it!"
AC Black flag fans - "It's crap."
Ubisoft - "Did we tell you that we decided a few moments ago to remake Black flag?"
It’s not so much about the potential onslaught of AC that bothers me, more the lack of creativity at Ubisoft these days.
It’s like when Michel Ancel left so did the company’s creative ideas. When he was still there we were getting games like child of light, rayman origins/legends etc.
I can't stand more Assassin's Creed games, people really love generic and mediocre franchises.
Ha! I can see it... Ubi, out of new profitable ideas and not brave enough to do something out of the mainstream, has decided to remake a game with good sales. So the remake of Black Sail will have a proper season pass, DLCs for waves, wind, and so on. Needless to say, the game will cost about 100€ since it will surely be a AAAAA.
I completely lost all faith in this company, they forced me to...
@Vault_Mcfly you can't stand them, so have you been playing them or not?
@colonelkilgore this happened to me too!
I haven't played Black Flag - is it so different than other AC games? I got tired of the formula pretty quickly and there are probably more AC games I haven't played than have at this point.
@NinjaNicky yeah and I don't play any of those either. Zelda the last 2 were a departure right? Climbing system, open world etc.
@Vault_Mcfly
...says the person with the Fallout avatar pic...lol...
I love Assassin’s Creed but this is wayyyyy too much. I’m not very into Black Flag either, probably my least favourite game in the series excluding the first one. That boat tailing mission through the swamp automatically makes it unbearable to play through again.
@YeoSprings The Spain stuff is covered in AC2: Discovery for the DS!
@DogPark
The Assassin's Creed stuff is fairly similar to the other games in the series but the naval parts make up most of the accolades this game gets. Exploring the sea, ship-to-ship battles, assaulting fortresses, mythic creature hunts, ghost ships, etc. Its all very fun and very well done.
Black Flag Remake?
Everyone liked that
AC franchise got better from Black Flag onwards. Deserves more credit.
I love Black Flag but I'm not too interested in a remake. It's still too soon for Black Flag remake for me. It does make business sense though especially since they already have so many of the assets to work with already from Skull & Bones.
I love this series though. It's had its ups and downs sure but I don't think Ubisoft gets enough credit for how relevant AC has remained over the years. Will all of these different projects hit? Not sure but I'm interested in almost all of them except for the co-op one. Even then though I'll wait to see it before passing judgment.
@LordAinsley agreed with you. It’s all the same just a different location. The last AC game i play and love is origins. After that im stop buying any AC game because its just look and felt the same to me lol
Leave her, Johnny 🎵 ❤️
@Victor_Meldrew It's been updated very well, but making it less rough around the edges and adding more difficulties would be a dream. I'd pre-order that so quickly.
Wouldn't surprise me, honestly. Ubisoft, like many others, has lost their ''shine'' so to speak. If they want to poop out a dozen more Assassins Creed games, they can go right ahead.
We'll just see how long it takes before people are (finally) sick of 'em.
@somnambulance is it really too new? it came out on the ps3 and xbox 360.
Why are we remaking games from a gen and a half ago? How has media come down to just reselling the exact same thing in a new package at a higher price every 10 years?
Media is starting to have the same problem as hardware. Why buy it today, it'll just be obsolete next month.
I’ve only ever played 1 and 2 on their original release. Never touched or looked into any others because I could just tell it was the same thing over and over, re-skinned as we say.
That being said, I did just buy the Ezio collection on sale today (will be playing for the first time since the Xbox 360 days!) and I will be taking a look at black flag remake (if that’s actually a thing) since that seems to be folks’ favorite and it does genuinely seem cool and different.
I always wondered at what point do we find out that assassins creed is actually in the same universe as Hitman? I always thought they were going to reveal that Hitman is actually just assassins creed but in present time.
Heaven forbid Ubisoft makes a new IP with the AC games as a blueprint. AC lost itself long ago with a bit here or there. But this is straight overkill. Color me uninterested.
What they SHOULD do is let the teams that make the admittedly awesome DLC into a full-on fantasy RPG series. I think with their skill at large open worlds and ARPG mechanics that they could make a Witcher-style epic if they tried.
Plus, it'd give 'em another IP to run into the ground.
This news is boring as hell.
I liked Black Flag and the Assassins Creed series, but damn, Im ready for them to ditch it like they have with Watch Dogs.
Im ready some NEW experiences.
@MFTWrecks I would much rather have a new Immortals than a new Assassins Creed.
They did a really good job with the first one, I would like to see how they could have improved it.
@twitchtvpat Yeah, I’d say so. I mean, do studios remake movies that are only 11 years old? Give a game three generations, I say, even if I think this whole culture of remakes takes away from new content being made.
Yo Dawg, I heard you like Assassin's Creed.....
@OmegaStriver "Im ready some NEW experiences."
Then they have a game for you. It's called Skull & Bones. You sure you' don't just want more remakes of AC2 now?
@OmegaStriver Don't disagree. But even beyond that style of more kid-friendly ARPG, I really think Ubisoft has the pieces to make a Witcher or Dragon Age competitor. Some of the design and visuals in the Origins and Odyssey DLCs were just superbly done. (I hear good things about Valhalla's Ragnarok DLC but haven't played Valhalla.)
it’s pathetic that they’re remastering a ps3/4 game . late ps3 games and ps4 games don’t need remasters man . this is why backwards compatibility is important . i still remember when AC4 dropped like it was yesterday
@NEStalgia because these corpos found a way to capitalize off consoles briefly not supporting backwards compatibility and they haven’t slowed down with this garbage since
@nomither6 Maybe they can include a remake of Skull & Bones with the $150 super-gold edition of AC4 2.0. That games old enough and really needs a remake. It hasn't aged well at all.
So long as no part of it plays like Black Flag, it has potential! One of the most overrated games I've played.
@nomither6 There are definitely a lot of late PS3 and early PS4 games that need a remaster/remake. Black Flag is one of them. Even maxed out on PC. The visuals of that game have not aged well. And playing it on a modern 4K TV with HDR using auto HDR will blow out the highlights. The game needs a true remake...
That's a lot of assassins. I'd like to buy Mirage, but disappointed that they don't support steam.
@OmegaStriver ac sold way way way more then watch dogs , its not going any where any time soon.
@somnambulance seeing how it was 2 console generations ago , the consoles have advanced enough to make drastic enough changes for the game to look and run better.
Ubisoft really need to start escaping their ubisoft formula, because no matter what they do all of their games have the same flavor
@nomither6 well, this doesn't need a remaster. It needs a full on remake. The combat, missions, and stealth are all abysmal.
@nessisonett thank you!
@LikelySatan do you like the classic AC games? thats pretty much all of them, imo theyre fine. i still dont think it needs a remaster, i hope this remaster crap stops soon.
@twitchtvpat I’m not saying they can’t improve the gameplay, just saying that the original is still a very playable game that really doesn’t need a remake. It’s not necessary. It’s in a similar… ahem… boat… as TLOU Pt 1.
@MikeOrator But you play Yakuza, tell me a game more mediocre and generic than this one when every game is the same *****
Maybe unpopular opinion but to me this series is the most boring series I've had my time playing.
AC 1 was meh
AC 2 which was fine for an hour until you realised that the combat in the game was rinse and repeat each time and I actually found the whole game q bore fest, I actually ended up having to drag myself through till the end. I really don't get the appeal of these games.
But Black Flag for me was amazing but only because it was a pirate game and we really don't get or had any truly good pirate games and thats the closest we've ever come.
Still though the combat was rinse and repeat.
Each enemy was the same apart from you blocked a couple more times before swinging and then you repeat.
I haven't played or attempted any of the others in the series.
But I'd be interested in a black flag remake or remaster but I'd want it to notch though not just a slap of 4k paint over it.
What id truly like though would be a gra style pirate game o the scale of black flag.
The problem with AC games has always been you never really felt like an Assassin. Not really.
That's my opinion. Black flag yes, the rest in fine thanks
Man, I just want a new Rayman game....
But hey, with the Black Flag remake, guess it's a better alternative than Skulls and Bones I suppose. Wonder if they'll keep the multiplayer mode, though. Unrionically wasted more time there than in the single player campaign lol
It's so weird seeing people defending Ubisoft, what happened, guys? Is the industry really in that bad state?
@somnambulance just because its "playable" doesn't mean it can't be improved. it like saying a vhs movie is just as good as a blu-ray movie in 4k.
@twitchtvpat Of course it can be improved, but do we really need games to be remade every two generations? Where’s the creativity and innovation in that?
This is where modern gaming is now. Ubisoft going all in on Assassin's Creed, EA going all in on Battlefield, Activision going all in on Call of Duty, PlayStation going all in on The Last of Us and Horizon. Epic gave up making games years ago to milk Fortnite. It's all about liveservice games and mega franchises now.
@Bez87 AC3 has the best combat of the classic games if that’s worth anything to you
@nomither6 I definitely do not. Those games play themselves. I love stealth infiltration, but the AC games are not that. It's all "hold/press the button to look cool." Like everything is context sensitive.
Looking forward to to the black flag remake and hopefully a remake of 1 or 2.
Down for some Co op as well
UbiSoft will nickel and dime the players somehow. Look at the Star Wars Outlaws.
@Vault_Mcfly
Touche! LOL!! I guess we all have our thing. Maybe we need to stop gatekeeping what people want to like and allow them to be fans of their special thing.
Calling something that another person likes mediocre, boring, repetitive, stupid, lame, generic, dumb, silly, crappy, or whatever is so, as the kids these days say, mid.
A remake of Assassin's Creed II would be great, and more needed than one of Black Flag, in my opinion. For instance, give us the opportunity to replay any memory at will, Ubisoft!
Looking forward to see how they tackle Japan. Ubisoft games are at least good in that they are often accurate.
@Victor_Meldrew
I would LOOOOOVVVEEE a remake of AC1
@DiggleDog as I understand Ubisoft had to make Skull and Bones else they would be in big trouble with Singapore.
I won't be buying it nor any Ubi game ever
@nomither6 I may have a look into it. Thankyou
I would very much like a remake of Black Flag.
I agree with the love for Starz’s “Black Sails”. Arguably the greatest television series ever made. Designed as a prelude to “Treasure Island”. With a fair amount of truth to it, as well. Highly recommended to those who missed out on it.
This show inspired in me a total fascination with the “Golden Age of Piracy”. Uncharted 4 scratched that itch, somewhat.
But a Black Flag remake would be very welcome indeed.
I know….yet another remaster.
@FreasurePlanten
I agree.
As I read more of Egyptian history, I am amazed at just how accurate AC Origins is. The level of detail is truly astonishing.
I remember going around the map, and smashing statues of Ptolemy. And, of course, the Ptolemies & Cleopatras were all Greek, so the native Egyptians hated them.
