Talk of a Stellar Blade sequel was already doing the rounds back in March, but now it's being mentioned in a more official capacity. As per a new public report from developer Shift Up (thanks Gematsu), the South Korean studio is "exploring the possibility" of a follow-up to the recently released action title. It's also looking into crafting a PC version, which makes sense, as Stellar Blade is currently a PS5 exclusive.
Interestingly, Shift Up's report goes on to highlight the success of well-known franchises. "AAA console titles such as God of War and Final Fantasy have shown tremendous potential, selling over [66 million copies and 185 million] respectively", it reads.
"There are many precedents for AAA titles to evolve into [intellectual property] franchises by extending their lifespan through a series of high-quality sequels and maintaining a long-term monetization base. As a result, we are exploring the possibility of a PC version of Stellar Blade and a sequel."
In other words, the developer seems to like the idea of evolving Stellar Blade into a full-on franchise. There's nothing wrong with dreaming big, is there?
Meanwhile, for the less distant future, Shift Up plans to support Stellar Blade with "new gameplay elements, including downloadable content releases". We'll no doubt be hearing more about that stuff soon.

Cool would love a sequel especially if they fine tuned the character controls a bit. Eve moves a bit janky as it is.
Really hoping the game releases on PC as well. Would love to play through it again on my ultrawide monitor.
Yes please please please please. I want more stellar blade.. wether its dlc a sequel and any type of merchandise. Its now in my top 3 franchise next to tombraider and horizon. Yes I do like my female protagonists.
Absolutely I would interested in a sequel! Had an absolute blast with Stellar Blade. My personal favorite game I've played so far this year.
Stellar News
Will sony add them to the PS studios family tree???
Doing a second play through with new game plus. Managed to beat it over this past weekend. Definitely up for a sequel, I enjoy Stellar Blade a lot.
@0niguy Possibly. It would add some variety for Sony 1st party studios.
@0niguy Very much doubt it, Shift Up are worth a hell of a lot of money, recent reports mentioned around $2.3 Billion, plus Tencent have already invested in them. I can see Sony buying minority shares to keep the partnership going though. And with Sony as a company looking to buy Paramount, PlayStation will to be a lot choosier about who they buy now.
If the Wukong game turns out good Korean devs will put western studios to shame. Like half developing time and then the games come out with pretty good visuals/graphics, no bugs and no performance problems? Huge!
Bring on the sequel! Already can’t wait to play!
I'm all for a sequel. Bring it on.
Yes please. And have it involve best girl Raven a lot more somehow. And more set pieces like the entirety of Spire 4. Especially towards the end
A sequel would be awesome.
Sign me up! And Sony, make this a PlayStation series! This game is perfect for a sequel: it has the narrative for it and even being absolutely great as a whole you could point many parts of the game that could use improvements!
More PC versions, bring it on!
Yes all the way! I absolutely adore Stellar Blade and it's ripe for a sequel with how much potential the story has and solid the gameplay foundation is. Very nice to see the game is successful and Shift Up is being rewarded for stepping outside the gacha bubble and doing a quality AAA console action game, especially for a South Korean studio where the former is the norm. Looking forward to all their future projects.
I was ready for a sequel half way through my first playthrough. BRING. IT!!
Yeah there’s no way they aren’t making a sequel for this game.
I imagine the sequel would be taking us to the Colony to face off against the Mother Sphere so that could be cool.
I hope it happens.
It's a very good game. I'd like to see less large open areas in the sequel and more focus on the linear areas. Getting through the Wastelands only to have to do basically the same thing in the Great Desert was a chore, especially for 100% collectors like myself. Eidos 9 was a great example of how the levels should be built.
Also, please, God, fix the platforming controls which were wonky as all hell.
Good game even if a little bit overrated imo, i'll give it a 7.5/8. Not worth the full price
This might be the best game I’ve played in the last 5 or 6 years. I almost never play games twice, but I’m almost through NG+. I’d love a sequel, bring it!
Eve should have some friends for the sequel - based on real life character models as well ❤️
This is great to know, even though I wish Sony would give the same love to Gravity Rush, I understand that Stellar Blade is much more successful.
The game deserves it, since it's great.
@0niguy Well Sony at least put Stellar Blade in the PlayStation Studios bundle on the PS Store
@nyr2k2 I agree, I started to loose some enjoyment in the end when I had to run through the open areas.
It would have been better if the game was completely linear in my opinion.
A bit overrated but solid foundations to builp up on.
@AFCC Game Science makers of Black Myth is Chinese studio
@Solingo_Bill how do you give it a near perfect score and in the same breath say it's overrated and not worth the full price? This coming from someone who hasn't played it.
@Korgon my thoughts exactly!!
@Judal27 Raven lost her limbs permanently Eve states that she will no longer able to fight ever again after their skirmish
I just hope that the story improves because it wasn't all that good. Everything was fantastic though.
Give me ALL the Stellar Blade things! Love the game SO friggin’ much!
@Ray_Ray_Regasis I know that's why I said somehow. Cause I'll even take a bad retcon lol or a prequel could work. Either way she deserves more screentime
Congrats to the devs on their success! I really like seeing brand new IPs finding success like this, both critically and commercially.
I'd love to see where they go with a sequel. I already have my own ideas buzzing around for where it could go next.
Shift Up, let me pitch you my idea for Stellar Blade 2. This is not a joke.
At least a trilogy. One of the best games this year.
Stellar Newsage
I think a sequel could be one of those all time sequels if they fixed all the issues of the first game. The first is a very good 8/10 game but if they heavily improved the story and characters and sorted out the platforming then i could easily see a 9/10 or 10/10 sequel.
Could just make a similar game. Doesn't always have to be a sequel, if a game is a success. Unless people want more, then ok. But I would prefer new games to be in new worlds and settings. Like how Tales of series are and the persona series. It's always in a new world, so you aren't forced to play the previous games.
@AdamNovice $2.3 billion are still affordable for Sony. I mean, they bought Bungie for $3.6 billion and last time i heard they still have $5 billion from $18 billion budget only for acquiring companies and investment.
I'm glad it did well. I hope the sequel stars a waifish dude and everyone can just stfu.
@JuiceboxMeister 8/10 near perfect score? the game has a 9.3 user metacritic, that's a "near perfect score". The game is good but you can clearly see tha's their first big budget game, it has more in common with AA games than AAA ones but the price is the same.
@Solingo_Bill definitely deserves the full cost mate of new games today.
Now fighting games like Tekken I have always felt should be a fraction of the cost new compared to other game genres! But I know that’s not how costs work in the entertainment industry despite certain content providing more value.
