DOOM: The Dark Ages Rips and Tears Day One on PS5

I was surprised to see the PS5 logo at the end, but I'm really excited for this! Looks really good.

Not really interested in this, but happy for DOOM PS5 fans.

I’m sceptical, I keep thinking about the previous game and how you knew which areas were going to be action and which would just be traversal rubbish during your first playthrough. I do like the modern Doom action and mechanics but with each version they seem to be getting away from the origins of why Doom was so great. Narrow corridors, walls disappearing suddenly and monster rushing at you, that kind of suspense. Now he’s just this all killing super knight and it’s starting to get dumb and stale

I like look of this but not having Mick Gordon does it hurt it quite a bit

Good grief so far the MS presentation has utterly embarrassed PSN State Of Play and Summer Games Fest… easily… what is Sony doing? And we haven’t had Nintendos showcase yet either..

And a LOT of CURRENT gen games.. not last gen too!

@S1ayeR74 Sony thought they'd take it easy just let MS announce Xbox 1st party games for the PS5.

@riceNpea Xbox just made it VERY difficult to buy a PS5. A barrage of current gen games including brand new titles. Sony is like here’s some DLC, indie games and games on both last gen and current gen.. it’s making me question my decision to sell my Series X for a PS5 lol.

Sony seriously needs to pull its finger out its ass and actually show some damn new AAA games, not just claim stuff is in development.

Also one game announced for PS5.

@S1ayeR74 exactly. Not even done yet and it's absolutely stomping the ps showcase and game fest. So Many games I'm interested in.

Hopefully that migrate over to ps. Still proving that gamepass is the best value in gaming though. Ughhh tbh, being a dedicated Sony ps player has never been as disappointing as this generation has been thus far.

Xbox just straight up brought it with this one.

@KundaliniRising333 Do you know what I’ve played this year on my PS5 the most? Dead Island 2 and it’s DLC and COD MW 3, great games but multiplat, only Sony games I like are remakes I don’t care about as I’ve done them like The Last Of Us or Uncharted which we haven’t seen anything new from for years now.
May get another Series X to be honest as I do like my Zombie games and State Of Decay is good.

@KundaliniRising333 I’ll also add something else, THE best next gen feature I’ve used so far between Series X and PS5 is Quick Resume bar none! You can turn your console off completely, turn it back on and pick up straight where you left off in several games, no sleep mode needed like PS5.

@S1ayeR74 I hear ya. Had starfield not been such a disappointment I may have bit the bullet and gotten an Xbox for the first time ever. With gamepass it's still a good sell with solid third party day one releases. However now I dunno. A bunch of these could come over to playstation now anyways, who knows maybe even a gamepass option if they were smart.

If they all don't though, and Sony continues this status quo and some of these stay on xbox... I may bite the bullet on one. Brand allegiance is just dumb anyways. I just want to Play good games. A ton of these in this showcase look to be so.

@UltimateOtaku91 I am, several games several brand new games almost every one current gen only… I’m using common sense thanks, Sony has this year and even last shown nothing to compete, nothing.

Might as well be the Bethesda showcase as they are carrying the show, without them xbox would have two games for this year.

Of course it will come on PS5. Xbox is dead. I hope dead in full soon since the S is holding back devs.
P.S. many articles lately about no cool newgames and in the last days my wishlist more than doubled

@KundaliniRising333 Yeah I had all three last gen, this gen I went Series X only and really I switched due to the ads on the dashboard and where I thought Microsoft was heading.. this gen may as well have all three again. Sony have been incredibly dull this gen.

It’s daft that I hope Microsoft will save them by brining its games over lol. I think Sony just wasted so much time with bloody live service games, one good one and that’s it. They should be firing executives, hopefully now Ryan has gone they may get back to decent proper games rather then crap to try and profit off.

It's baffling to Me that brand allegiance can be so blinding that you cant even recognize potentially good games or a good showcase from other platforms.

@Medic_alert Only six of the games shown are cross platform and one of those is DLC, going by this sites front page, and they showed what 20 games or more? Seems exclusivity has been ramped up for Xbox and PC.

I mean I hate to say it but that was one of the best game console events I've seen for a good few years, IF and it's a big IF Microsoft can maintain this level of quality games and 1st party titles they may be coming for a comeback, I guess similar to what we saw during the 360 era when Sony missed the mark, it seems history may be repeating itself

Although I will say I'm glad these are coming to PS5 because I would have seriously considered by an Xbox after seeing some of these games

@anoyonmus For reference it was the 2022 xbox showcase where I changed my score from a 7 to an 8 (or a C to a B), I also edited my comment within a matter of minutes but certain people obsessed over my comments on PX, hence why I blocked him and 5 other members over the space of a week.

@Medic_alert Nintendo still do and have games sales revenue that far surpasses Sony and Xbox, due to selling so many Switches. Now Sony and Xbox release their exclusives on PC.

I agree with much of what you said. PS has been twiddling their thumbs for freakin years, now, and I don’t think I’m the only one getting pretty tired of waiting to find out why I should be excited for my PS5. And Xbox releasing that objectively impressive showcase only rubs salt in the wound.

That being said, I don’t regret buying my PS5. Up to this point, PS has mopped the floor with Xbox Series with quality exclusives.

It’s cool PS5 getting COD and Doom.
Microsoft gets more money.
Makes more games and I get them cheap on game pass day one.
Also I get the Xbox exclusive ones or exclusive maybe for a year who knows, cheap on game pass as well.
I was struggling with all this and game pass, but after today game pass is looking a lot more value for money. I’m fully paid until May 2025 so that’s good as well.

@CP2 Yes but only if you play those exclusives, I found Horizon Zero Dawn to be a chore so never bothered with the sequel, beyond that one not been interested in any of the first party games Sony has bough to PS5, Unchartered would be nice, played them all in PS4 so any remasters don't interest me. I want new games or anything from Naughty Dog that's new and not a remaster. I don't care how they want to see how many times they can milk money from previous games, stop wasting time with the remakes and make something new or a sequel.

I know there are a couple of games coming though that I will play, can't remember the names of them now but I think one is PS exclusive. But Xbox has several that interest me.

Wait. Music is not by Mick Gordon?! sigh. That's one of the biggest selling point for me with Doom 2016 and Eternal.

Wowza!!! This looks AMAZING!!! The shield and melee gear was a smart choice. Love the color scheme and overall vibe. The open environments look great too—I did not love the arena shooter aspect of Eternal, and based on this trailer it looks like they’re leveling up the environmental design and making it more open. Day one for me, baby!

Hands down highlight of the show, didn't thing medieval weapons would work so well for Doom.

I'll buy for sure, but as I get older and worse at shooters year on year, hopefully I enjoy it as much as doom eternal.

How nice of "Gaming for All" Phil to not take games away from where the players are.

@BusyOlf i ended up giving up cause of those traversal levels. Doom should just be action, that is what I expect, give me that and I'll buy.

Seems they took the complaints about platforming and cartoony colors to heart. I didn't agree with those criticisms, but I trust id more than almost any developer out there. I can't wait.
And I agree this is an incredible showcase...so long as you aren't too concerned about the rest of 2024. I said it elsewhere, but man I was hoping MS would fill the hole that Nintendo and Sony are leaving this year. Darn. That would have been interesting.

this looks like it is going to easily surpass doom (2016) as the best doom game ever made. ID is keeping the FPS torch lit while machine games takes a break from wolfenstein.

Wasn’t a huge fan of Eternal (combat felt too scripted with little arenas), loved 2016. This looks almost open world. I loved Hexen back I. The day, so fingers crossed for this. Medieval Open World Doom!

@MidnightDragonDX eternal is ass, but this one seems to go back to the old school ways, where every bullet/missile means something. The newer one is just 3d bullet hell and candy drops for ADHD heads..

@DarianStarfrog Doom has always been colorful with pickups, and almost every weapon in OG Doom was hit scan, not projectile. Your descriptions here, saying things like "ADHD head," etc? Kind of seems like you don't know what you are talking about. Eternal isn't bullet hell at all, lol.
I also don't know what you meant by "canny." Not much can be gleened from this trailer, as far as whether this game will be more like 2016, Eternal, or something new, gameplay wise

@DrVenture69 I said it earlier, but open world Doom wouldn't work without a significant tech update. The AI following the player around and navigating is too taxing, according to Hugo Martin.

@LikelySatan , yeah interesting problem to solve, if it was all open world it could end up like Serious Sam. If was dungeons and open world that would be cool. If it ends up like modern Hexen or Painkiller, I’d love that. Need another stake gun!

@DrVenture69 Doom is better than "run backwards and shoot." I can't stand those games man, lol. I mean Hexen is cool, but Serious Sam is my kryptonite.

@CP2 I’ve seen a lot of thoughts that when they launch the PS5 Pro they will announce a lot of big first party games, and use the Pro to show them off. That could make sense if a Pro model exists. I guess we shall see. I have a few games to keep me busy and shall play the new Star Wars one when it’s out.

I really enjoyed doom 2016 (and the classics of course), but I feel like Eternal and it's dlc slowly started to go downhill. I cant really put my finger on it, it just seems more and more over the top and convoluted.
