Bandai Namco has released a new trailer for Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero, which covers the game's various modes. It sounds like it's going to be a pretty big game, boasting a lot of single-player stuff alongside an obviously massive roster of playable characters.
As you'd expect, there is a story mode of sorts. Split across eight main characters, the so-called Episode Battle has you fight through key moments from the Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball Super storylines, with the action taking place between full cutscenes.
However, the twist is that you can actually make decisions during these scenes that change how the Dragon Ball timeline pans out. For example, as Goku, you can choose to chase after Raditz alone. There's even a clip in this trailer that shows Goku going Super Saiyan when he's up against Great Ape Vegeta.
Next up is Custom Battle, which houses original scenarios. What's more, you can create your own scenarios — complete with cutscenes — customising things like player characters, opponents, stages, and even gameplay details like damage scaling and special conditions. Once you're done, you can upload your scenarios online for other players to download and (hopefully) enjoy. It sounds really cool.
However, it turns out that there's a downside to Zero looking so graphically impressive. We've got confirmation that the game does have local multiplayer, but it's limited to just one stage: the Hyperbolic Time Chamber. A real shame, but at least it split-screen versus hasn't been removed entirely.

Still no footage of GT characters or movie characters...
Makes me concerned but I guess we'll get those as DLC.
That split screen caveat kills a lot of interest I had in this. But then, I was never really a fan of the Tenkaichi games anyway. Give me Budakai or just more FighterZ.
I have a very important question : can you watch a cpu vs cpu battle?
Some of my fondest memories from Budokai Tenkaichi 3 were setting up tournaments and then watching the battles unfold.
I'm really curious about the custom battle mode's cutscenes and how they work...
Local multiplayer in what is ln fact just an empty stage is sad though...
I’m just glad it has local multiplayer. Even if it’s limited it’s still better than not having it at all.
I always enjoy custom what-if scenarios in DBZ games. Helps shake up the story that's been told time and time again.
I'm hoping they can patch in a better split screen implementation down the road but I'll take what I can get. Game looks fantastic.
Oh hey this puts the big concern me and my friend have to rest. Good to see this.
@RoomWithaMoose
Budokai games were the BEST!
Never liked this fighting system for 2 players. Or 1 player for that matter. I'll pass.
When I'm an old man and not interested anymore, maybe then they'll release a proper DBZ openworld adventure game with a proper budget
Very scared at this point that Cooler and GT stuff will be god damn DLC😭
@RoomWithaMoose "That split screen caveat kills a lot of interest I had in this"
Why would that kill it, split screen is there for you to play with a buddy. Is looking at different backgrounds that big of a reason? Based on the rest of your comment you weren't interested even if it had more stages than any game ever.
@Juanalf Despite my disinterest in Tenkaichi, Sparking Zero was getting some attention from me. But a handicapped local mode really doesn't do anything to sell me on the game. And in a game where mobility and destruction is such a big part of the experience, being limited to one barren map is a good reason to lose interest.
