Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake finally has a release date. The classic RPG is being reborn on the 14th November, and it's been confirmed for PS5. You can get an updated glimpse of the game via the above trailer, and it's fair to say that the whole thing still looks lovely.
The title's official press release reveals that the remake will feature "an improved and modernized UI, and other quality of life improvements". What's more, the combat system will boast "new animations, additional improvements such as an adjustable battle speed, an auto-battle setting, and more". Sounds good!
But that's not all. As was recently rumoured, Square Enix is also remaking the original Dragon Quest and its sequel, Dragon Quest 2, in the HD-2D style. The so-called Dragon Quest 1 & 2 HD-2D Remake is targeting a 2025 release.

So can't wait for all three of them!
You guys at PS are doing ok from the Direct, huh?
I did like the look of this a bit but I still think I’ll wait and hold out for DQ 12.
I loved Dragon Warrior growing up and still love Dragon Quest a lot. I am so down for these, it looks great!!
@rjejr why ask PS doing okay from direct tho?
Are these 3 separate stories or is it worth waiting for the first game if I've never played them before?
I'd love a Final Fantasy style pixel remasters collection of the first six DQ games. This is still awesome though. More Dragon Quest on PlayStation please!
Definitely one of the best HD-2D treatments to date. This game is stunning, even just from trailer footage.
Can someone explain to a Dragon Quest novice why they would do 3 before 1 and 2?
@pumpkin_head @Bentleyma Dragon Quest 3 is a prequel to the first Dragon Quest, which probably explains it.
@pumpkin_head III takes place before I and II. In III, you play the legendary ancestor of the heroes of the first two.
@Bentleyma They are. You can easily play each one standalone, though.
@MidnightDragonDX I agree! I'd love to see them remaster the entire series. Still hoping for Final Fantasy: Tactics and would love to see a Breath of Fire saga Remaster as well, if at all possible
Hell. Yes. This will be the perfect winter game. I cannot wait — this is one of my all time favorite franchises, especially in the RPG space.
Super excited, DQIII is a classic and this looks stunning. I do think having 1 and 2 in a separate collection will trick a lot of people into spending their money on games they’ll instantly regret though, both can be completed in a few hours and are… let’s just say dated. Cave to Rhone at the end of 2 is unhinged.
I'm so happy to see all 3 games getting the remake treatment. Wonderful games but they could all definitely do with some QoL improvements.
I hope that they are released physically. Fingers crossed!
This is amazing, I can't wait to experience how it all began!
@MidnightDragonDX @ShogunRok
Cheers, that was my best guess. The MGS Delta treatment.
Can't wait! With all three announced, It's only got better!
@MidnightDragonDX Part 3 is getting a physical, and judging by the display box that comes with the part 3 collectors edition, i would bet heavily that 1&2 are getting a physical release too (prob on same disc) as the display box has room for 2 regular sized game boxes.
All over this Day One! Great memories as a kid playing Dragon Warrior 1-3 on the NES!
I got the plat trophy in DQ 11S last year, one of the best JRPGs I ever played. And it took a long time hehe My very 1st Dragon Quest, left a very good impression. Maybe I will experience that trilogy down the line.
I would absolutely love it if Squenix remade FF6 and Chrono Trigger in this style
Really looking forward to this. I've played 8, 9 and 11. I should really get the other ones on the ds. 4, 5 and 6?
Anyway, I was really hoping for a final fantasy IX announcement from this direct. I'd take a HD-2D version like this remake of DQIII.
Playing the FF pixel collection has got me very nostalgic.
My first Dragon quest was VIII. The journey of the cursed king. Loved every second of it. I played it during the 2006 world cup on my new HDTV with picture-in-picture technology! Half the screen some random match, the other half grinding out some levels on DQ8. A beer in my hand living the dream! Anyway, I got so used to auto saves on the old, fat PS3 I drunkenly turned it off without saving. Hours of grinding metal Slimes lost. Good times
I am so ready for this 🙌
@anoyonmus he wasn't asking if they were okay, he said that they were doing okay with content from the direct... Meaning the Direct had given plenty to write about.
@J-Dubs Thanks for saying there was a collector's edition. I just pre-ordered it.
@ShogunRok @pumpkin_head @Bentleyma
In the full showcase, Creator Yuji Horii talks at the end and suggests playing the remakes III, I and then II. I was confused until I saw that too.
@Mintie Right... because comparisons right???
@anoyonmus Nope, because the Direct featured a host of third-party games making it relevant and beneficial to cover on a PS focused site.
@MidnightDragonDX They are. III is already up for pre-order on Amazon, et. al.
i love that older games are getting new life breathed into it, and its like being able to experience them all over again , as a brand new game.
