Capcom has finally got around to improving the performance of Dragon's Dogma 2 with a significant PS5 patch that can be downloaded now. From a performance standpoint, the most important addition the update brings is the ability to set "graphics settings" to either high or low. On top of that, if you own a 4K TV that supports 120hz, Dragon's Dogma 2 can now make use of the feature.
Depending on whether you set the "graphics settings" option to high or low, Capcom says you can look forward to the following: "Frame rates in areas with a lot of NPCs, such as town centers, should be improved. In addition, turning the graphics settings to low should further improve frame rates." More improvements to the frame rate will be delivered in future updates, the publisher confirms.
Elsewhere, the item storage system is getting an overhaul. Having downloaded the patch, you'll be able to sell items directly from your storage box, equip armour from the menu, and immediately claim armour from storage for the relevant Vocation when you switch to it. Furthermore, you can now store up to 999 duplicates of an item (previously it was just 99).
Other smaller adjustments include making it easier to find Oxcarts out in the open world, a new option in Photo Mode to remove your protagonist from the shot, and various bug fixes. You can view the complete patch notes below.

Hmm time to delve in? I think so
Very nice, ps5 was more than capable of doing something more with this game. It's maybe a hint that ps5 pro won't see the light.
Good to see updates but a little too late. The games more mixed public reception will need to be changed through something bigger like an expansion.
60 FPS in performance mode?
Or not yet?
I kinda want to play again but I kind of want the story to be improved even though that's not really the main focus.
This game really needs a demo or trial on the store, just for people to test out the fps rates etc
Nice to see some PC style graphics toggles in there. It could be a sign of what we might see in Monster Hunter Wilds; looking at that (very pretty) trailer, I was fearful we'd get another DD scenario.
Bloody hell, I just completed it the other day and I have a bloomin 240hz monitor, going to reinstall just to see 120hz! Amazing!
Yeah I was severely disappointed in this outdated crap.
Very frustrating inventory system as well. So bad. Sold the game after 30 hours and happily moved on.
As always, day 1 fans get the shaft. Never again
Was one of the reasons I got a PS5 but Dragon's Dogma 2 has been a let down due to its sub-PS4 graphics, lurching controls and constantly shouting NPCs and pawns. I doubt some extra PS5 performance will fix that.
Doesnt this just prove the point that they launched it too early / half baked!
Will have to keep eye out for demo or full blown tech analysis tho before i trust how much it is improved.
So is it 40fps in 120hz container similar to Spider-Man games on PS5?
120hz is not 120fps. Also this is another reason never to buy Day 1 games.
"More improvements to the frame rate will be delivered in future updates, the publisher confirms."
Think I'll hold off purchase for a bit longer then.
@Rich33 unless you go for a PS studio/Nintendo game day 1 it’s generally better to wait. Those 2 seem to usually have better quality control etc
Wonderful patch. I’ll jump back into NG+ sometime soon. This is hands down my GOTY and one of my all time favorite games.
@breakneck not too late at all. In fact, where I sitting on the fence about the game, the update has swung me in favour of putting this game on my 'to play' list.
Sadly, i very much agree with you.
Since the dumpster fire that was jedi survivor, the only games i now pre order are Sony 1st party, games i have played a demo of, or in the event tech reviews are available pre launch (rarely happens, but it has in the past).
Im struggling with this game. I just kinda dont know where to go. Got a few map markers that look like theyre over the other side of the map with all roads greyed out etc. Games just a little vague for me so far. Loved it to begin with. Only a few hours in tho. Will try it again after the patch drops.
@Kidfunkadelic83 The game is a little vague in that sense, yeah. I would just venture out that way (yes it's far, but part of the game's charm is the journey) and see what the mission is. Is the marker sort of south-west? That'll take you to the desert area and a new checkpoint town.
Don't hesitate to turn to a guide. I glanced at one several times to to check I was on the right path.
@ThunderFunk
Yeah, i thought that - 120hz mode can be used for 30, 40, 60 or 120 locked fps or literally anything above 48fps with VRR (or 24 if they use 2 refresh cycles per frame, and cap at 60fps).
They (capcom) havent exactly been forthcoming with exact details and numbers have they?!
@zebric21 sound like hater
@REALAIS Nah 40fps is my bare minimum to play a game so i might try it now.
@voltum3l indeed....strangely vague patch notes here.
Going to have to wait for the digital foundry on this...but I'm guessing no
In so tired of this. I am currently playing warhammer 40k rogue trader, a game from december 2023, and it is still not optimised. Dont get me wrong, i really enjoy it (more then bg3 actually) but damn it is still not a smooth ride.
Same for this apparently, the game is out for months and now you get an optimisation patch?
Keep it in the oven longer then ffs.
And yes i am to blame as well for buying it at day one and thus accepting the status quo. But i am so tired of this...
@JB_Whiting its the ones that the general gives you, free the guy in the cell, clear out 3 monster camps and something else. Its ok until you run in to a hard enemy that wipes your party out lol. I just feel a bit lost with the game.
@voltum3l My assumption is 60fps is now the "target" when you set graphical settings to "low." Probably just about locked 60fps in the open world and dips a bit in towns and chaotic scenes.
All these options are great. I'm playing the game right now; the storage options alone are essential features.
@Kidfunkadelic83 Keep at it, dude! The game seems to kinda be a mash of Skyrim and a Souls game. Skyrim, in the sense that you're encouraged to explore every cave you find along the way to your destination. Souls, in the sense that you should definitely not feel bad about walking away if an enemy is too high level. Also Souls, in the sense that most enemies have a weak spot to capitalize on (i.e. lizards with hitting their tails).
It's a little slow in the beginning, but you actually level up your vocations pretty quickly in the game and can unlock much more powerful attacks/skills.
Cool dragon dogma 2 is amazing.word up son
Better late then never, but should have had this a the start. Especially storage
@zebric21 pro will definitely see the light, at this stage it will be too far into dev and also part of Sony's strategy
Got the plat so I very much doubt I'll play again until PS5 Pro is out, or DLC comes out. Whichever is first.
For anyone wondering the framerate cap does get removed to go up to 120fps (if you have a VRR display go to the menus, use your TV/Monitor frame counter and it'll hover aroud 80fps), it just won't happen in-game because the game is taxing on current platforms. For that we have to wait till PS6
Had a damn good time with the game on pc, started ng+ but seemed to perform worse after every patch they introduced ironically. Have to give it another go to see if it’s better now
Bought on release for £69.99. Played well over 300 hours across two Arisens with no issues whatsoever. Best game I've played this year.
Will buy when game is $30.
Your move Capcom
I wonder if that Oxcart quest that sees you posing as a pawn is fixed and can be tried again when/if you fail.
It’s about time!
@Specky Day one fans have always been that. Especially when people think it's ok to release a subpar game because they will patch it eventually anyway. 😉
For whatever reason, my copy of Dragon Dogma 2 won’t even install. Reaches to like 40% and then just stops and I get a can’t install error. 😑
@Flaming_Kaiser it was still a great game to play. Frame rate was something I could tolerate.
@CrashBandicoat you're not sticking to any guns you're just impeding yourself from having fun.
A little surprised they actually put in the work and not waiting for the easy way out with PS5pro or PS6.
Then again, Capcom's been pretty good these last years. Maybe I'll give this game a shot sooner rather than later.
@JohntheRaptor I rather see them put some more effort in it then let us play a early access game at full price.
@breakneck DD2 is niche just like the first one. The general public’s perception is irrelevant IMO. People should just play what interests them. Ignore journalists and the general public unless you know for certain the critics have the same tastes as you.
Can anyone who’s tried the new options let me know what performance is like now? Are we reaching 60fps mostly or is it dud
@FinneasGH Ask and you shall receive! 😅 Go download the 2 hour free trial. You can carry your save over to the main game. Square Enix has been doing this for a while and I believe it should be industry standard.
