Microsoft's decision to bring former Xbox console exclusives to PS5 is starting to make a lot of sense. Sea of Thieves, the open world pirate sim that seems to have gone from strength to strength over the years, has actually managed to top the PS Store charts for May 2024.
Sea of Thieves released right at the end of April, so it makes sense for it to have rocketed up the charts in the following month — especially when it's being backed by such positive word of mouth. It was number one in both North America and Europe, which is an impressive achievement.
The rest of the charts tell a familiar tale. You've got evergreen titles like GTA 5 and Call of Duty creeping back towards the summit, while Fallout 4 remains quite high off the back of the property's recent revival.
It's also worth highlighting a game called Who's Your Daddy?!, a meme-spawning, asymmetric multiplayer release that's been popular amongst big YouTubers, which launched for PS5 in early May. It's ended up in tenth and ninth in North America and Europe, respectively.
Really, the only other talking point is Helldivers 2, which is finally starting to slip down the charts. The co-op shooter still held on to fourth in North America and fifth in Europe, but these are its lowest positions to date. Up until now, the incredibly well-received blast-'em-up has seemed unstoppable, even going as far to claim the first place spot in April, months after its initial release.
All things come to an end, however, and it'll now be interesting to see whether Helldivers 2 can find a new, long-lasting foothold in the top five.

Minecraft is also top on PS4....you know at this point Satya is telling Phil and Co to start prepping PS5/Switch versions of ALL of their games
Very good news, I hope Sea of Thieves stays in numer one at least till Astro Bot releases. Why do I say this? cause that expedites me being able to possibly play Halo MCC and Killer Instinct on my PS5 🤞
but xbox had no games how come everyone wants to play them now?
Seriously, why is GTA V still at number 2?!
@trev666 gotta love generalizations.
@LordServbot My dad doesn't do anything since the crash......
@trev666 Most people knew Xbox had games...we just didn't want an Xbox to actually play them.
Wtf is that game at number 10? 😂
Helldivers 2 should be multi platform. I think all games with an online focus should be.
@WhiteRabbit from memories of about 7 years ago, 1 player plays a baby who's trying to kill themselves, and the others play the dad who tries to stop them.
@AdamNovice That's a shame really. I get that not everyone has the money, time or space for multiple consoles but if it's ever driven by an "I don't want an Xbox because Xbox sucks!" mentality then I think it's sad.
@AdamNovice And it's paid off for those not wanting to buy an Xbox, as now they don't need to as the games are coming to Playstation.
@__jamiie Reasons vary by each person, for me it's not the Xbox games or the Xbox console as both look great, it's Microsoft and their business strategy that I don't like and do not want to give my money to help them (in my opinion) consolidate the market even more.
If they ever become just a Publisher then il probably buy their games.
Interesting that while Sea of Thieves topped the charts HiFi Rush didnt appear at all.
Proper addicted to Sea of Theives. I just hope they fix the frequent freezing that can occur
@3Above I imagine a lot of Sea of Thieves' sales will come from groups of friends all deciding to buy it and play together. Helldivers 2 will be the same. Gives multiplayer games very long-lasting sales as long as they're good.
I'm really happy to see Another Crab's Treasure at 13 in the US chart. The game is absolutely fantastic.
I think they promised something like 5 years’ support for the game when it launched way back when. Clearly it’s now an indefinite commitment…
If tat like this means we are more likely to have elder scrolls be a multiplatform release, which is looking more likely, then I’m all for it.
@3Above Hi Fi Rush didn't do very well even with the gamepass subscribers that didnt have to pay for it. It's such a niche genre being a rhythm based beat em up that not even the universal praise seems to help it. It's a shame but I don't think it can be considered a runaway success like many claim.
3m player count seems solid but with 30million gamepass subscribers that wouldnt have to pay anything other than time to play it is kind of a let down. Then looking at achievements for those who did play it, not even 50% of xbox users unlocked the achievement for beating the first level with about 12% finishing the game. So there definitely seems to be players bouncing off early.
@__jamiie it is sad and it’s killing a console. Not a publisher but a console. Even if not now, then eventually. Obviously hope i’m wrong!
@BacklogBrad Hi-Fi Rush was my GOTY 2023 but even I bounced off it initially as I thought that first level was overly long. I put the game down and then didn’t pick it back up until months later. The rest of the game has a much better pace though.
@BacklogBrad for the exact same reasons as you have said there, is why Hellblade2 will get ported over, the last I saw it had a very low achievement rate too.
I finally bought Sea of Thieves last week but not really had a proper chance to play it yet. Seems cool, though.
@K1LLEGAL I think it is a pretty good game too. I just don't think the mass audience was ever going to be into it. I'm not surprised it isn't making waves on ps5 either.
Nice to see Stellar Blade is still doing good.
So MS didn’t or did kill Rare? I can’t keep up with all the slogans everyone has said. Xbox does have games or don’t? Truth is all 3 consoles are great. All 3 are doing different stuff and if and when consoles go away for cloud and PC the gaming world can unite around great games and less about arguing over which plastic box they prefer.
@UltimateOtaku91 "Reasons vary by each person, for me it's not the Xbox games or the Xbox console as both look great, it's Microsoft and their business strategy that I don't like and do not want to give my money to help them (in my opinion) consolidate the market even more.
If they ever become just a Publisher then il probably buy their games."
What kind of backwards statement is this... If you don't like their business strategy of consolidating the industry. That means you don't support them period. Cause you supporting them as a publisher sound like you just don't like Xbox consoles.
Removed - flaming/arguing
I think with the amount of games they're now able to pump out they can now do both strategies. They can have some come to PS5 and some stay exclusive. They can literally have both avenues on their plate. I don't see Xbox dying now. I see it growing. Makeing some games for all platforms, just like a publisher, but also be able to still have exclusives too. Very interested to see how the next 5 years plays out.
@UltimateOtaku91 Fair enough. I would say that hardware is is irrelevant at this point. I think Microsoft acknowledged this years ago.
They want you to buy their games.
@Mikey856 Please God, let this be irony and sarcasm. 🤣
@Mikey856 If MS sucked at making video games then why is an Xbox game at the top of the Playstation charts?
A better and more accurate statement would b e
"Xbox can make good video games but they're inconsistent and have management issues and poor messaging"
Doom Dark Ages is likely going to be one of the best games of 2025 so MS can indeed make good games, they just need to be more consistent which is why the showcase was so well received
The rest of this year we have Age of Mythology, Avowed and Indiana Jones, if all 3 are well received then what?
@K1LLEGAL Bespoke consoles don't have a bright future for anyone, including Sony. Next gen is the last.
Well if Sony is not willing to break away from the "Sad Dad's" type of game, then I'm glad Xbox is here to provide the variety PlayStation needs.
@Ergoshotz I'm certain this is irony or sarcasm.
@AverageGamer yup he will be giving Microsoft his money regardless. Lots of dumb takes.
People struggling to say that they just want trophies and not achievements.
Removed - flaming/arguing
@__jamiie oh I’m deadly serious Xbox are at embarrassment level bro they are releasing g there games on ps you are aware of that ?
@AdamNovice the same way PC players wouldn't get a PS console to play the games but when games get ported they love it
All Xbox have done since 2011 is let down what was a decent install base of 80 odd million people. No games crap consoles that are outperformed by the equivalent PS (bar oneX) which was just far too late. How anyone can muster the strength to defend that company is beyond me absolutely beyond me
Gonna be honest I’m surprised the game has done so well, I mean fair enough.
But it goes to show me that the face of gaming is changing, I feel nowadays I’m old school big campaign AAA games. The ones Sony are mainly known for.
Let’s hope we getting those amazing AAA campaign games.
@Ergoshotz
I sort of agree, also some don’t realise on here, like it or not Microsoft will make Xbox massive, maybe not in all areas of console, game pass and games, but with all those studios and some massive ip and trillions of dollars, they are a sleeping giant just waking up again.
I see it in a good way, PS5 gets some games and also it will make both Sony and Nintendo try harder as competition is good.
Removed - flaming/arguing; user is banned
@ShogunRok True, that's how I got into Monster Hunter. Of all the games that got PS5 ports I didnt expect Sea of Thieves to be the break hit but cleary Skull and Bones did not fill the gap it was intended to fill.
@OldGamer999 The most likely scenario is Microsoft Gaming becoming the top publisher but Xbox no longer being a competitor to Playstation and Nintendo
Microsoft Gaming has to be compared to other publishers like EA, Capcom, Ubisoft, Sega etc
The Xbox hardware itself should be compared to something like the Steamdeck....the Steamdeck sells well and is a very well liked product but Valve isn't losing sleep over not being able to sell as much as the Switch
This really is a W for everyone, Playstation gamers get virtually every game that's not a Nintendo game, Xbox gamers get their Game Pass, Microft makes bank, Sony makes money off the 30% cut,
@Ergoshotz
Great article on Eurogamer today.
Why the gradual death of the console exclusive makes business sense
@PsBoxSwitchOwner @BacklogBrad @K1llegal I guess that might explain MS closing the studio somewhat. Hellblade 2 is very likely next. Sadly this just reinforces the live service argument when unique single player games cant hold on the a fraction of their audience but we all put hundreds of hours into repetitive gameplay loops.
Live Services (when they're good) are really the perfect game but time is limited for many of us.
@Ergoshotz steam deck is on 3 million? That’s not good numbers surely I’m curious to know if Portal is outselling it tbh
@Mikey856 I don't know how many the Steamdeck has sold but Valve are clearly happy with it and they're not trying to compete with the Switch, more importantly that 3 million sales was from 2023
@Mustoe oh yeah, it will never end. Just change topics a bit. I am sure these people would argue over what internet provider you use for cloud. I will say i use AT&T 1000 mbps and it downloads a 75GB game in 8-11 mins. I love it. Smaller titles are so fast it’s playable within seconds to mins.
@__jamiie "Bespoke consoles don't have a bright future for anyone, including Sony. Next gen is the last."
That rings a bell... 🤔
@Ergoshotz Except that Game Pass will probably implode somewhere along the way. Not saying that Microsoft will eventually kill it, but it will morph into a very different proposition compared to what it is today.
@Mustoe HAHA, well i work from home and the internet has to be fast so i went for it. Truth told the price is really good. It used to be $50 a month for 200-300mbps, then it went to 500mbps for $50 and the deal i got was $80 for the 1000mbps. So i took it. It’s nice but sometimes my PS5 and Xbox only pull around 650-850 of it and my iPad and work computer are almost never below 900 and sometimes even over 1000mbps. I buy all my games digital so it nice to have. 😀
I work on Who’s Your Daddy, so cool to see it here.
@HonestHick right there! Best comment I have heard in days.
@Mustoe i get it. Internet isn’t cheap. They do bump up the price a lot. Tho normally and not always the speed increases, if not then that is just a bad deal and time to switch. I switch my truck insurance every few years to get a better price. Someone out there wants your business and is willing to under cut whom you are using currently. That can be said for a lot of things outside of internet and insurance. Hope you get what you want when the time is right. 😊
It's normal for Helldivers 2 sales to slowing down, especially if it's true that the game sold 12 million copies in less than 3 months.
Those numbers are far exceeded Sony & Arrowhead expectations since it's an AA game without big marketing. 12 million copies x 40 bucks /copy = it generates $480 million income for Sony. Cut with development cost probably around $30-50 million, marketing cost, retail & Steam cut, and post launch update, i say Sony & Arrowhead could get clean profit of $300+ million for themself.
And it's nice to see Spidey 2, Stellar Blade, and Rise of the Ronin are still selling. Exclusives games doesn't sell huh 😁
@DarkTron There should be more games about suicidal babies.
@Ergoshotz
Imagine believing Microsoft made Doom simply because they bought a studio that was already making Doom. Ha. Do you believe they made Minecraft, too?
It's hilarious honestly.
PlayStation guys were always talking about how Xbox have no games. And if they had games they were actually bad and nobody wants to play them
Xbox guys are always talking about how every PlayStation game is "sad dad simulator" and about "PlayStation template"
Meanwhile actual truth is that people are talking in that way because they can't play those games and it's easier to talk themselves into hating those games.
@The_Wailing_Doom you can say that about any Sony bought studio too
@Godot25 it's more that the amount of people saying all this is a tiny fraction online the massive bulk of console players dont go online posting comments on game sites or Twitter
Between This and helldiver's 2 it just shows Sony plays do want live service games
@Toot1st
Can you? With the exception of Bungie (which I believe was a knee-jerk reaction to Microsoft's destructive spending spree) most, if not all, the studios PlayStation buys were cultivated and grown by PlayStation.
@The_Wailing_Doom Microsoft has owned Bethesda for 3.5 years now…question…who greenlit Doom Dark Ages? Who paid for the game to be made? Who’s making investments and pouring money into Id Tech?
I guess by your logic Sony isn’t making any Insomniac game either
Microsoft has owned Minecraft for nearly a decade now. Again who’s paying for the games continuous support? Who greenlit the Minecrsft Education Edition?
The whole “cultivated by PlayStation” talking point is a pile of crap…was Jim Ryan in the studios coding and QA testing? Was he graphics programming? No…all Sony did (and this goes for any company) is greenlit the game and fund development....when Insomniac was independent all Sony did was sign the paychecks, how long Insomniac has worked with Sony is irrelevant, Sony didn't own the studio until 2019, until then they didn't cultivate or grow sh*t
You can make this argument regarding Deathloop because that game was in development before the buyout but I’m sure you’d have no issue pinning Redfall on Microsoft 😂
Doom Dark Ages is the first Bethesda game made entirely under MS
@3Above I think the biggest reason they closed the studio was that they bought bethesda for the other studios and IP. tango was just kind of there. Similar to toys for Bob where they make decent games with very narrow margins in the best case scenarios. xbox was really only interested in the rest of the acquisition. I'm not that surprised they closed it and I dont think hi fi had much to do with it.
I don't doubt that xbox was impressed with the critical reception of Hi Fi but this studio lives in that upper end of AA and low end of AAA. That area seems to be the main target of cuts.
@Ergoshotz yes but when Vita sells 12 million and is branded a failure I don’t see how anyone can square that circle really
@Mikey856 Because the Vita was trying to compete with the DS....the Steamdeck isn't a stand alone product and is basically an extension of your gaming PC
Also the Vita was a great product,
@Ergoshotz "The whole “cultivated by PlayStation” talking point is a pile of crap…was Jim Ryan in the studios coding and QA testing? Was he graphics programming? No…all Sony did (and this goes for any company) is greenlit the game and fund development"
It's not a pile of crap.
Sony not just greenlit and funded the game but they also did the publishing, marketing, and helped with development process.
Of course old Jimbo isn't the one doing the programming because that's not his job. But Sony has XDev and Sony Worldwide Studios who has job with helping development for 2nd and 3rd party games.
Example. Guerilla Games helped Kojima with Death Stranding development by sending 70+ devs to worked on the game art / design and Decima engine.
https://www.videogameschronicle.com/news/more-than-70-guerrilla-developers-worked-on-death-stranding/
Or when XDevs was working closely with Team Ninja to finish Rise of the Ronin development that was last for seven years.
https://www.thegamer.com/europe-based-sony-xdev-is-helping-team-ninja-develop-rise-of-the-ronin/
That article also mention XDevs was helping with Until Dawn, Detroit: Become Human, and Returnal development.
Or like China Hero and India Project which was initiated by Sony for indie devs in China and India. In this project, Sony not just help with the funding but also with publishing, marketing, and development.
Or when Sony helped Callisto Protocol devs with the mocap and cinematics.
https://www.pushsquare.com/news/2022/12/the-callisto-protocols-glen-schofield-clarifies-sonys-role-in-development
I'm sure there are more examples when Sony worked together with ND, Sucker Punch, and Insomniac for years before they became Sony 1st party studios. But that's what it means with "cultivated by Playstation".
@PuppetMaster The idea that its something Sony exclusively does is a pile of crap, because what you described...everyone else does already
"Sony not just greenlit and funded the game but they also did the publishing, marketing, and helped with development process."
So does everyone else...do EA, Nintendo, Microosft, Sega not publish, market and help with the development process?
MS in particular had people help optimize Starfield and even delayed in 2 years (it was originally suppose to launch in 2021) and also are making investing into Id Tech per Phil back in 2021 when they first bought Bethesda
"But Sony has XDev and Sony Worldwide Studios who has job with helping development for 2nd and 3rd party games."
MS has their Advanced Technology Groups and other studios like The Coalition assisting other studios using Unreal Engine (which at this point is nearly all of their studios)
Again not something only Sony does
I'm not denying anything that you're saying in regards to Sony but its nothing Sony is doing that everyone else isn't....because everyone wants their game to be as pristine as possible, to market it as much as possible and to make sure its as good as possible so it actually sells well....there's no company who's saying
"gee golly we better not assist our studios because want to make sure the game doesn't succeed"
In regards to Doom Dark Ages, checks all the boxes, marketing the game (it was literally the show opener) publishing the game, investing in the studio, the technology etc and because its multiplatform the game will probably sell gangbusters which means the employees will likely get bonuses for meeting sales projections, I imagine this will happen when MS inevitably ports all of their games to Playstation (and even Switch 2)
@Ergoshotz I need to remind you again of what you wrote:
"All Sony did (and this goes for any company) is greenlit the game and fund development"
Which i corrected you that Sony does more and now you agreed with that facts? Good.
"So does everyone else...do EA, Nintendo, Microosft, Sega not publish, market and help with the development process?"
But does they, in this case MS since we're focusing more about Sony vs MS, has the same method and principal as Sony?
I mean, take a look at Sony and MS 1st party games. It's obvious that both company has very different principal and method of how to developed and marketing their games. Just compare how they marketing their recent released exclusive game(s):
https://www.pushsquare.com/news/2024/04/sony-hires-superstar-korean-cheerleader-to-cosplay-as-stellar-blades-eve
Or how Sony did Stellar Blade offline launch event in some countries like Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Taiwan, Hongkong, and South Korea with different Eve cosplayer + exclusives merchandise that people can grab at the event.
https://blog.playstation.com/2024/04/07/20240408-stellarblade/
https://blog.playstation.com/2024/04/11/20240412-stellarblade/

https://www.pushsquare.com/features/random-i-met-my-favourite-korean-cheerleader-because-of-eve-and-stellar-blade
How Sony thrown a lot of RotR posters & billboards in Taiwan as well invited Taiwan media and public for the launch event with an exhibition that feels like Japan in Edo period.
https://www.pushsquare.com/news/2024/03/gallery-stunning-ukiyo-e-rise-of-the-ronin-mural-unveiled-to-commemorate-ps5-release
But where's the offline launch event for Hellblade 2 and Hi-Fi Rush??? Or at least for Hellblade 2 since that's MS big game for this year.
So, can you see the contrast here between Sony and MS and the meaning behind "cultivated by Playstation"? Oh and it's defnitely not a "pile of crap".
"MS has their Advanced Technology Groups and other studios like The Coalition assisting other studios using Unreal Engine (which at this point is nearly all of their studios)"
Can you name me at least 15 titles from 3rd party devs that mention The Coalition name in their end credits? I searched The Coalition history and credits and it only showed they developed games like cancelled Kinect game, MS Flight, a couple of Gears of War games, Halo Infinite, and tech demo Matrix Awakens. But there's no info that said "The Coalition assisted 3rd party devs who wants to used UE and released their games on Xbox". It seems they're a very different studio compare to Sony XDevs.
"Again not something only Sony does"
I never say Sony the only one who does it nor i remember Sony ever claim they're the only one in the industry who does it. But there's a clear different with how Sony does it compare to other company like MS.
@PuppetMaster
"Just compare how they marketing their recent released exclusive game(s):"
If you're trying to argue Sony being better at marketing than Microsoft, yes I agree there but Hellblade 2 and Hi Fi Rush are bad examples, Hi Fi Rush was a shadow drop and Hellblade 2 is a niche title....where a game like Stellar Blade had a lot of viral marketing because of the main character
When a big game like COD, Doom, Fallout, Gears come out MS will up the physical marketing compared to a game like Hellblade 2
"Can you name me at least 15 titles from 3rd party devs that mention The Coalition name in their end credits?"
Avowed, Halo Infinite, State of Decay 3

Also have an internal department to assist and develop tech related to Unreal
https://devblogs.microsoft.com/cppblog/partnering-with-the-coalition/
You can argue the marketing part Sony does better but their studios don't really collaborate as much, we have Coalition and Obsidian both working with Undead Labs on SOD3 ....can you show me 3 Sony studios that actually develop games collaborating with each other?
While we're at it, Microsoft invest their IP's more than Sony
Under Microsoft we're getting a new Doom, revivals of Fable and Perfect Dark, Flight Sim, Age of Empires and Mythology
Under Sony, no new Bloodborne, not even a patch or a PC version, Resistance, Sly, Killzone, Socom, Sunset Overdrive, all in favor of churning out more Marvel slop
@Ergoshotz "When a big game like COD, Doom, Fallout, Gears come out MS will up the physical marketing compared to a game like Hellblade 2"
So why Hellblade 2 which is an AAA game but
MS gave non existent marketing nor physical released at all? Poor NT i guess because MS loves their more popular games.
On the other hand. Sony has the balls to gave extensive physical marketing for Stellar Blade and Rise of the Ronin, two NEW IP's from 3rd party devs.
"Avowed, Halo Infinite, State of Decay 3"
I said games from 3rd party devs and these 3 games are 1st party games lol. Let's just say you can't find any lol.
"You can argue the marketing part Sony does better but their studios don't really collaborate as much. Can you show me 3 Sony studios that actually develop games collaborating with each other?"
You're moving goal post now. Stick with the topic bro. But here, i gave you not just 3 but 7 games where Sony 1st party studios worked with each other.
Not to mention Sony ICE Team as the prototype of Sony Worldwide Studios who shared tech and engine between Sony 1st party or even 3rd party studios.
https://www.pushsquare.com/news/2013/07/theres_a_secret_room_inside_naughty_dog_thats_as_cold_as_ice
"While we're at it, Microsoft invest their IP's more than Sony"
Said who? Put your source in here and please don't say you heard it from Phil Spencer lmao. And if you believed it then explain why Hi-Fi Rush and Hellblade 2 doesn't have physical release and non existent marketing.
"Under Microsoft we're getting a new Doom, revivals of Fable and Perfect Dark, Flight Sim, Age of Empires and Mythology"
A new Doom game is very much guaranteed without MS involvement at all when Doom Eternal made $450 million revenue in the first year. But Phil Spencer wants Doom Dark Ages as Xbox exclusives and i'm glad IdS said NO to Phil.
But what about Xbox exclusives games like Blue Dragon, Crackdown, Phantom Dust, Crimson Skies, Project Gotham Racing, Viva Pinata, Conker, Killer Instinct, or Too Human?
You said MS invest their IP more than Sony but those games are still dead for years because MS are busy buying popular 3rd party IP's to kicked Sony out of the competition lol.
"Under Sony, no new Bloodborne, not even a patch or a PC version, Resistance, Sly, Killzone, Socom, Sunset Overdrive, all in favor of churning out more Marvel slop"
To fit your narrative, you're ignoring Sony games non-Marvel like God of War 2018 & Ragnarok, Ghost of Tsushima, GT 7, R&C Rift Apart, Horizon, TLOU, Uncharted, Astro Rescue Mission and soon Astro Bot, Returnal, Demon's Souls remake, Sackboy, Helldivers, Everybody's Golf, Medievil remake, or Shadow of the Beast remake. A mixed of new and old IP's. Oh and all of these games has a physical release with good marketing too, unlike Hellblade 2 and Hi-Fi Rush 😎
Btw Sony recently ported Sly 1, Daxter, Ghosthunter, Killzone Liberation, and Resistance Retribution for PS5. Sony doesn't forgot some of their old IP's. It's just a matter of time for a new Resistence, Sly, Killzone, or Socom. And a PS5 patch for Bloodborne would be cool but it's not like PS4 version is unplayable just because it has a bit of frame pace issues
In the end, "cultivated by Playstation" isn't a pile of crap like your claim. So let's end it here cause i don't want to get banned by the mods or someone flag my post. Feel free to disagree but i'm not changing my stand.
@PuppetMaster "So why Hellblade 2 which is an AAA game."
$50 digital only game is an AAA game? Did Epic give Alan Wake 2 mass marketing push? Sega give Like a Dragon Man who Erased his name a mass marketing?
Sony barely marketed Helldivers 2 and that game became popular because of viral marketing, that is until Sony torpedoed it into the ground, now Arrowhead no longer wants to work with Sony
"i gave you not just 3 but 7 games"
There's more than 7 games where The Coalition alone assisted and will be more in the future, also listing PSP games that came out a decade ago 💀
"Said who? Put your source in here and please don't say you heard it from Phil Spencer lmao."
Hi Fi Rush was a shadow drop 💀 why would it have a physical version? Also there's already a ton of data out there that the majority of Xbox players are digital only so why would MS invest in physical versions when no one in their audience wants them? You're not making any sense
https://www.gamesindustry.biz/gamesindustrybiz-presents-the-year-in-numbers-2022
I listed like 5-6 IP that Microsoft are massively investing in, not just giving you a lazy port like Sony is with Sly, where Sony isn't even giving you a Bloodborne patch or a PC version
"A new Doom game is very much guaranteed without MS involvement"
Spider-man, Stellar Blade, Bloodborne would have all happened without Sony, Koei Techmo would have found another publisher for Rise of Ronin, Housemarq would have taken their game to another publisher
There's a difference between a game "happening" and a game coming out as a much better product because of support from a larger company
Case in point Psychonauts 2 would have come out without Microsoft too...except it would have came out rushed, unoptimized, and without boss fights
https://www.thegamer.com/psychonauts-2-boss-fights-talk/
If you REALLY think about it, Epic likely would have made a new Gears game by now if they didn't sell the IP to Microsoft a decade ago....
Again games happening and games being good products are 2 different things...under EA Bioware had delivered Mass Effect 2, 3 and the Dragon Age games but Mass Effect Andromeda was a dud....why? Because EA management fumbled
"at all when Doom Eternal made $450 million revenue in the first year."
Except Zenimax also had multiple live service flops, had several games underperform but sure, Doom Eternal was somehow going to subsidize the entire company in addition to funding development for its sequel and also make massive investments into Id Tech 😂

Gee I wonder why Zenimax sold to Microsoft in the first place 😂 you realize that if 5-6 games flop and 1 game does extremely well that the 1 game has to make up for the flops, this is common sense
Oh I'm sure a new Doom would have came out eventually....at a much later date or it would have been rushed out unoptimized....without as big a budget...without the big investments into the tech...without all of the technology resources MS offers ... but sure totally comparable 😂
hence why Doom DA is such a big deal because its a Microsoft Product made fully under Microsoft from start to finish, not something they caught half way through like Starfield and Redfall or even Psychonauts 2, its such a big deal for MS that it was their opener for their Game Showcase
"But Phil Spencer wants Doom Dark Ages as Xbox exclusives and i'm glad IdS said NO to Phil."
You know what Phil could have said?
Phil: "Haha that's cute...last I checked..I'm your boss, its going to be exclusive, deal with it or find a new job"
The game is multiplat (and all of MS games will follow suit) because of financial reasons ei sales not because Id Soft has any say in the matter
Imagine if a Sony studio told Jim Ryan they wanted their game multiplat, dude would have laughed and told them to get back to work, again you're not making any logical sense
"Blue Dragon, Crackdown, Phantom Dust, Crimson Skies, Project Gotham Racing, Viva Pinata, Conker, Killer Instinct, or Too Human?"
They did bring back Crackdown/KI, KI was successful and even got a recent anniversary update, KI got more relevance and support in the last decade than Socom, Resistance and Killzone combined
why would they bring back PG when they have already 2 racing games? like asking Sony to bring back Motorstorm, they did bring back Phantom Dust and no one cared, Rare also doesn't want to work on old IP's and and who's asking for Too Human? No one even remembers that game and Microsoft doesn't even own the IP for it...
These are some terrible examples
"God of War 2018 & Ragnarok, Ghost of Tsushima,."
God of War GT are the only games here from the PS1 PS2 era, the rest of these games came out PS3 and beyond, no one cares about Medi-evil this is like when MS tried bringing back Voodoo Vince, we're never getting a Demon Souls sequel because From Soft won't make one and Sony studios aren't capable of mkaing one,
Sony ported Sly 1, Daxter etc to PS5....yeah these 480P half assed ports
https://twitter.com/JohnSilvaGaming/status/1800826742632071636
Amazing Conker got a 1080p treatment but Sony put no effort into these ports, even the Phantom Dust and Voodoo Vince remasters got better treatment than these games did 💀 just proving my point that Sony doesn't invest in their IPs
"It's just a matter of time for a new Resistence, Sly, Killzone, or Socom."
They're never coming back bro, if Sony had any interest in them we'd be getting them instead of this Concord abomination
Toys for Bob is bringing back one of Microsoft's IP's likely Banjo, Crash or Spyro, just proves my point that MS invest in their IP's and Sony doesn't because they want to coast off whats popular
"In the end, "cultivated by Playstation" isn't a pile of crap like your claim. "
It really is....at least in the context that it's something secret Sony sauce that only Sony does that other studios don't....Sony doesn't cultivate anymore than EA or or any other company does....do they support developers and market? Sure...they're very good at marketing and branding but no better than Activision is with annual COD marketing
You don't have to change your mind, the evidence is pointing in my favor
