Ace attorney is a good shout.
But I truly wouldn't mind them bringing pokemon over, how that franchise would shine with the ps5 or even the ps4 tech behind it.
That series is wasted on Nintendo, esp the newest one, that game is the ultimate perfect pokemon game, if it actually ran and so I still have no need to dust off my switch.
Fingers crossed the switch 2, is alot more powerful.
@Bez87 I don't think Pokémon will be coming to PlayStation any time soon, haha.
It was such a great direct, especially of course because of the exclusive Nintendo games, but the multi platform releases are not too shabby as well.
So hyped for the Marvel Vs Capcom collection, Prime 4 aside that was the big highlight for me.
Great collection of titles right there. Between all the shows there are far more games Id like to play than I can digest, even if I discount the huge backlog. Its a fantastic time to be a gamer imo! 😀
WE GOT MAHVEL BABY!!!!!!😭😭😭😭😭😭
Dragon Quest 3 HD, Romancing Saga 2, Farmagia, Fairy Tail 2, Lego Horizon and Fantasian are all day one for me. This year has been incredible for JRPG's, best on record even.
The biggest thing to me that this summers showcases have told me is that a Microsoft and Nintendo press conference is 50% a PlayStation conference now. And that while Sony may be relatively quiet in terms of first party they have quietly gone about having an excellent year of games releases so far.
@themightyant PlayStation have had a stellar year in my opinion, yes their State is Play was disappointing but there's no need to judge their outcome just on that alone like the majority are doing over the last few weeks.
This year so far we've had FF7 ReBirth, Granblue Fantasy Relink, TLOU 2 Remastered, Rise of the Ronin, HellDivers 2 and Stellar Blade and coming up we have Silent Hill 2, Astro Bot, Concord, Until Dawn and Lego Horizon. Plus there's a lot of great looking Multi Plat games like Star Wars, Wukong, Assassins Creed, Dragon Age, Dragon Quest etc
In my opinion this has been /will be an excellent year for Playstation gamers and looking at other platforms excellent all round.
Ace Attorney Investigations, Fantasian, and MvC Collection for me. Although, DQ III remake looks interesting because i like the HD-2D graphic.
But hey, just like Xbox, thanks to Nintendo who also promoted PS games lol.
I had 19 games ready to buy this year before the nintendo direct started. Im pushing near 30 games. thats not counting indie games or the expansion dlcs for elden ring and FF14 dawntrail. RIP My Wallet
@UltimateOtaku91 Completely agree. As a cross platform player there's more games releasing I really want to play than I can ever keep up with. And on PlayStation specifically there's more games than any other console.
You obviously need the immense power of PS5 to run Dragon Quest 3 HD. There is no way this game can run in the PS4.
Seriously though I am glad that the Ace Attorney series will be finally complete, even though the Edgeworth games are not IMHO as interesting as the main series games.
All stuff from Square was cool and the Marvel VS Capcom collection is a good addition, I always enjoyed their retro collections.
@themightyant It really depends on the games you play. If I wasn't a huge Final Fantasy fan I wouldn't have got the PS5, in fact I bought one when it was clear that FF16 would not have a PS4 version or a PC version near launch. More games will come within the next years obviously but if it wasn't for FF, I wouldn't be in a rush to get the PS5.
@Keyblade-Dan MIGHTY KEEF REFERENCE?
It was a great Direct. The new 2D Zelda game looks great, Metroid Prime 4 looks solid, Marvel vs Capcom collection was a huge surprise, and Dragon Quest 3 remake looks amazing. I also really liked MIO: Memories in Orbit, definitely getting that at some point.
@themightyant It’s a really strong year for PS5, people are tripping. Some just can’t be satisfied.
@get2sammyb I know I know but a man can dream. Hahahaha I guess I'm stuck with palworld haha.
But it is true though the latest pokemon game is ment to be a master piece but the game just cannot run on the switch. So wasted.
I guess I'll just settle for third place Xbox games coming over. Wouldn't mind a gears of war remaster on ps5 if it is coming like rumoured.
Still remember playing that on Xbox 360 waiting for ps3 to hurry up. Haha
Edit: on topic, it's a good solid set of games.
People are always going to moan whatever. I think it comes down to them wanting triple A blockbusters time after time after time.
Probably due to those years where all the big hitters came out all at once.
@get2sammyb For anyone doubting this just head over to Opencritic and look at the Top 10 releases of this year so far. 9 are on PS, 6 on Xbox, 3 on Switch. Top 50 also considerably in PlayStation's favour.
Ultimately conferences and open PR is nice, but it's the icing on the cake, actual good games we can play is what it's really all about.
Still buzzing over the Marvel Vs Capcom collection.
@themightyant @get2sammyb This is not maybe the ideal place for this discussion, but I agree that the PS5 generation has been good. The hardware is good and there are some cool games. Now that said the criticism that this generation feels a bit underwhelming or that the PS5 feels like a PS4 Pro 2 with a M2 SSD is valid sometimes.
Releasing major games in PS4 and PC did not help the perception. I know there are others but when from the top of my head the only PS5 exclusives I can think of are Final Fantasy games and Spiderman 2 and we know that they are coming to PC and even a budget gaming laptop or a steam deck may play them adequately so why bother to get a PS5?
Even though I got a PS5 for Final Fantasy 16 I travelled a lot for work the last couple of years and I opted to carry a PS4 and a Steam Deck and I didn't feel that I missed anything. I played GOW Ragnarok, Horizon, Resident Evil 4, Village, the Pixel Remaster of FF, the Ryza trilogy and much more with hardware I already had.
Hello Kitty, i'll be there
@get2sammyb Imagine if Sony bought all the shares in Game Freak or Creatures Inc 🤔
I actually like how you re-worded some of these to be more “PlayStation-y”, I actually wouldn’t have known Phantom Brave was on the ps2 if it wasn’t for this. I just assumed it was a weird 3DS spin-off of disgaea or something (big fan btw!), so thanks xD.
Some of these would probably look better on PS5 but a lot would be preferable with handheld as an option.
Still, Rebirth and Astro Bot are the only reason I still need a PS5 (plus Rocket League until Switch 2).
@Yonisanu Let's be frank: everything would look better on a PS5 lol.
I'd probably add Demon's Souls to the to-buy list, but yeah, Rebirth and Astro-Bot are currently the only games making me jealous of PS5 owners, and I expect the former to be on PC within a year and the latter within two years.
@Bez87 I think the leaked specs put it somewhere around the PS4 Pro in terms of raw power when docked. But obviously with way newer tech that'll be more efficient at running newer games. I expect them to lean heavily into upscaling as well.
I expect the thing will be more capable than the Steam Deck, which itself can run just about everything.
I still think that, in terms of performance and image quality, we'll see results pretty close to an Xbox Series S. Not great for a home console, but amazing for a dockable handheld.
With that said, we're talking about Game Freak, so they'll still find a way to make their games run poorly.
@get2sammyb “here’s every game from the latest Nintendo Direct coming to Sony’s systems“
It’s possible you got a different Direct in whatever country you watched this in and from but the US version also had “Funko Fusion” in it that is coming to PS4/5 so that your list doesn’t include “every” game in the Nintendo Direct also coming to PS consoles.
https://www.funkofusion.com/
You know, just in case that 1 game brings it to exactly half of the ND games coming to Sony consoles.😉
Edit: Wait, did you also leave out “Hobbit Life”? Maybe you should have waited another few hours before writing your “These Are All” article. You know, until it was all of them.😂
@Ralizah well technically yeah, but a sprite-based remaster would hardly show up an improvement unless you have a big TV. I have a 32" 4K TV/monitor thing which is great for making the switch resolution look optimal and performance mode on Rebirth looks no different in pixel quality. I managed to get the PS5 slim for about £300 plus a friend shared his catalogue so I've been lucky and can play some other AAAs for free but there really isn't much I care for from Sony, post-Ueda.
I have a Metroid Prime 4 pre-order since August 2018 (no idea if Amazon will honor the 49.99 price)
Always wanted to play Fantasian. And excited for Legos Horizon Adventure.
But I am getting those on PC. I see them as Handheld games.
@Agramonte lol Amazon randomly canceled my long-standing preorder for that game a year or two ago. Dunno why.
That said, I buy mostly digital, and the vouchers mean I'll get it for $50 anyway, so no big.
@Yonisanu Eh. Not always. Maybe if it's PURELY a sprite-based game. But even the HD-2D stuff looks significantly better on PC/PS5/Xbox. Just look at footage of Octopath 2 on Switch vs any other platform. It still makes a difference.
My interest in Sony's first-party output largely died when they nuked Japan Studio. I still enjoy the Horizon series, but that's about it. And Astro-Bot, maybe, which looks delightful.
@Ralizah oh really? I'll check that out, seems strange but then I'm surprised Paper Mario didn't hit 60fps so that would explain that. Well if given the option of handheld I imagine I would still choose the switch version if I were to play those (being a console person).
Yeah, exactly. Fumito Ueda was for me the soul of Playstation aside from Square Enix and Hideo Kojima with their varying exclusivity. Uncharted 4 was pretty good, but that's all I need to play of that. It's about time they did a platformer from a Japanese studio, hazaa! Horizon is very innovative but I only generally play combat games if there are plenty of puzzles now, Rebirth being an overwhelmingly nostalgic exception.
The one game in the direct that really caught my eye was MIO. Has a lot of Ori and Hollow Knight vibes to it, for me it was the the most interesting announcement at the direct.
@Yonisanu TTYD remake really amped up the lighting, which I'm guessing is the biggest reason it's 30fps. That, and to maintain consistency with handheld mode at a conservative power profile. You can increase clock speeds on a hacked Switch and run a LOT of games way more smoothly, but it's not ideal for battery life. Being a hybrid console, Nintendo is worried about efficient cooling and battery life, so it avoids the jet engine effect the PS4 often experienced with many of its more demanding games.
@Ralizah Yeah that's a point about handheld and personally I like that it's underclocked for quietness and coolness (not to mention battery), but when you think about BOTW it still seems surprising the demand these seemingly pre-rendered games place on the system. Not that I have a problem with any Nintendo first party games myself.
@belmont I can understand people feeling it's a PS4 Pro 2 with an SSD, but I would say don't underestimate the speed of the SSD, it's by FAR the biggest game changer this generation. Far more than graphics which are reaching diminishing returns, smaller and smaller incremental upgrades each gen (not helped by having a PS4 Pro). Frame rates as well, being able to play a more stable-60 vs often unstable 30 in most games on PS4 is a major jump.
As for PC, I love my Steam Deck but it but both it and budget gaming laptops do NOT play most of the "next-gen only" games well. The likes of Alan Wake 2, Jedi: Survivor, Dragon's Dogma 2, etc. all run horribly on them. You might be able to get them running at super low resolutions and frame rates but i'd hardly call it "adequate" or comparable. The reality is a gaming PC that matches PS5 is likely around twice the price when you factor in everything.
As for next-gen only games there are plenty of them that you can't get on PS4 as a good reason to upgrade, including some of the best games in the last few years: Baldurs Gate 3, Alan Wake 2, Returnal, Dragon's Dogma 2, Demon's Souls, Deathloop, Armoured Core 6, Stellar Blade, Jedi: Survivor, A Plague Tale Requiem, Tekken 8, Helldivers 2, Mortal Kombat 1, plus next gen only DLC to Horizon FW, Cyberpunk etc and i'm sure many many more I can't remember. If that's not missing out, I don't know what is.
This is why I said in a post on another article that it was worth waiting for the Nintendo Direct before judging all of the presentations.
Nintendo and Xbox absolutely nailed it in my opinion.
Love that all of the games listed are just links to other articles. Savy way of getting for clicks .... very savy lol
@get2sammyb
The Pokemon clones Nexomon was already available on PS4.
There are some choices for my PS5.
Let's see...
HELLO KITTY for PS5, everyone.
@Ralizah Oh boy. Mine is still there. I will also have it as my Gamefly Gamelock game. "Keep-it" price + my saved rewards usually works out
Nice you can use vouchers to help bring cost down. I buy Digital mostly on PC. I see Switch/PS5 as my physical game machines.
